I am selling my 1973 Thing that I have lovingly restored. I am a retired German teacher and my hobby for the past 30 years has been repairing and restoring VW's of all types. This is my last one because I am 71 years old and have given up my toys for other interests - fishing, sleeping, spending time with grandkids, etc. My Thing has a new 1776 motor that I purchased from GEX in Arkansas. They are a specialty shop that builds excellent VW engines. The engine has a mild cam, progressive two barrel carb, extra oil cooler in addition to stock cooler, electronic ignition, alternator. I bought the long block from GEX and added all of my own good stuff to it - and I did it right. The tires are like new. The paint is new - white with black decals. The floor pan, engine compartment and trunk are coated with bed liner - black. This Thing is original except front seats and the engine. I have put about a thousand miles on the new engine cruising the back country roads. It runs great and will keep up with traffic on the interstate easily. I have also the original rims, hubcaps, and through-the-back-bumper muffler. It presently has a stock VW Beetle muffler on it with a chrome tube tail pipe. The top is in excellent condition. The floor pans are good. The previous owner had the floor pans inside the car covered with fiber glass, so there is no rust in the interior. The floor pans on the underside are good. There are some small rust areas that were repaired. I coated the pan with rubberized under seal. For a 1973 it is in very good condition. Like most VW engines it marks its spot with an oil drip now and then. I put all new seals on the engine, but there are still little drips. The transmission shifts like new. I also put in a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. The brakes are like new also. I have spent hours and lots of $$$ on my Thing. I presently have over $10,000 invested plus my time. The odometer shows 64,000 miles, but I cannot say for sure that is accurate. Judging from the condition when I bought the car I think it is fairly accurate. Any questions, contact me.

Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.
VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*
Wed, 08 Jan 2014Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.
Volkswagen Passat gets Wolfsburg Edition, priced from $23,495*
Tue, 23 Apr 2013Volkswagen has just announced a new Passat Wolfsburg Edition, which slots between the base S and mid-grade SE trims in terms of content and price. The automaker has not released any official photos of the car as of this writing (aside from the badge shot you see here, of course), but the Wolfsburg Passat will be visually set apart from the rest by a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels.
The big host of upgrades for the Wolfsburg Edition are found inside, where buyers will enjoy standard amenities like leatherette seats (with bun-warmers on the front chairs), a power driver's seat, satellite radio and a media interface with iPod connectivity. Of course, this comes on top of the already standard Passat features like Bluetooth and auto on/off headlamps. The Wolfsburg Passat will only be available with the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Look for the 2013 Wolfsburg Edition Passat to hit dealerships in the very near future, priced from $23,495, *not including $795 for destination. Have a look below for Volkswagen's official press blast.
