Up for sale is a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit with a 12v VR6 swap. The car runs strong, pulls hard, shifts smooth and stops great. The car is completely rust free and always has been.                                                                                                                                                             History:  The car started life as a1981 Volkswagen Rabbit 1.6L diesel which it is still titled as. (clean NY title in hand). The car is straight and rust free inside and out. (The perfect candidate for a build). A 12v Corrado with around 60,000 miles was used for this build. The engine, gear box, radiator, brakes (4 wheel discs) hubs and axles were used for this build from the Corrado. So yes its 5 lug all the way around. This is not a euro wise or other kit, its all hand welded and braced for strength in all the right areas for proper support. The car handles the power! And could handle more if you decide need be. Anyway, stock engine and gear box, with completely programmable stand-alone engine management system. K+N with snorkel type intake, Techtonics header and Borla muffler. Adjustable fuel pressure regulator and map sensor.  Otherwise stock. Reliable and fun, what more can you ask for. The car was built to be fast and light. No unnecessary weight on this car. No A/C, and no heat.  That stuff weighs too much. Small things were removed too like those little cross braces under the hood and the rain tray. It has an eight gallon fuel cell. The battery was relocated to the trunk with battery shut-off switch externally mounted. 6 point roll cage welded in. 5 point harnesses for driver and passenger (no back seat). Schmidt 3 piece wheels wrapped with Toyo Proxes T1R tires with a sweet off set. (front:195/45R15, rear:205/45R15)  Adjustable coil-overs in all 4 corners. Upper and lower sway bars. Custom interior, fresh gloss black paint exterior. No dings, dents or other in paint, a quality job. Things we need to discuss: This is a hot-rod, it has no heat, no back seat etc...dont ask me if i have any of the original parts. This car was intended for race use but it never got around to making it to the track, so bumpers, lights, mirrors etc were added to pass inspection.  Im happy with the car except the guy that wired up the dash. It has the Auto-Meter comp racing guage set-up. The important ones work, the others well, not so much. Im pretty sure it would take an afternoon to iron out the simple electrical wiring issues. Its not a complicated dash, simple 2 wire set-up. It never stops me from enjoying the car, I have only needed the tach and temp, they both work.  Im available to talk to at 845-405-9316.  I prefer cash in person. I can help with shipping by making sure the car gets on the truck you send, or take it to a shipping location in a reasonable distance to item location.

Horn, Hackenburg, Hatz to be fired as VW diesel scandal deepens

Thu, Sep 24 2015

Volkswagen will sack three more high ranking executives, including the head of its US division, as the company's diesel scandal deepens. Reuters reported Thursday morning that the executives are: Michael Horn, who has led VW's US operations since January 1, 2014; Ulrich Hackenberg, who oversaw Audi's research and development; and Wolfgang Hatz, who was in charge of R&D for Porsche. A VW spokesman wouldn't comment in response to an Autoblog email. The moves come in the wake of longtime VW chief executive Martin Winterkorn stepping down on Wednesday. Volkswagen's board said at the time that it expected more personnel changes to follow. Volkswagen's board is scheduled to meet Friday, and Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has reportedly been named as Winterkorn's successor. The German auto giant was plunged into crisis last Friday when the EPA charged that the company manipulated software in its diesel-powered cars to pass US emissions tests. About 482,000 vehicles in the US are affected, and VW estimates 11 million around the world could have the rigged software. The revelations have prompted outcry from governments and regulatory agencies, and in the US, Volkswagen could face a fine of up to $18 billion. The departure of Horn, Hackenberg, and Hatz is a stunning downfall for three of the company's top and most visible executives. Horn had led US operations for less than two years, taking over from Jonathan Browning, who was well-respected but failed to reach VW's ambitious sales targets. Before overseeing Audi R&D, Hackenberg was hailed as a visionary for work in developing VW's modular architectures, which allow the company to save time and money by building many vehicles off the same chassis. Hatz had led Porsche R&D since 2011 and also was in charge of engines and transmission development for all of Volkswagen. Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers

Sun, Mar 29 2015

As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top. Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.
