1983 Vw Rabbit, White, Convertible. Not Running on 2040-cars
Port Saint Joe, Florida, United States
I am selling my 1983 Rabbit. I bought this car from a lady who told me she and her husband bought it and had it totally redone on the inside (true, it has marine grade WHITE vinyl interior which is in exceptional condition). She also told me that they had their mechanic in Georgia put an engine in it, and that it has a 4 speed transmission, not a 5 speed transmission (even though the stick shift has 5 speeds, it really only is a 4 speed). Her husband passed away and she let it sit in her garage until she sold it to me. ,I drove this car for a year on the beach, it was great and I loved it, then one day I was driving down the road and it just died, I pulled over to the side of the road, and it had to be towed from there. It has been sitting ever since. It is such a shame, because it is a cool car that turned heads every where I went. I had several offers to buy it at gas stations, fast food joints, etc., but at the time was unwilling to sell. Now she is dead, and needs a VW enthusiast to take over ownership to restore her to her former glory. This car has NO air, NO power steering, but it has a NEW convertible top and new interior, plus a lot of white sand from the Gulf of Mexico :)
Exterior is in great shape, there is one bumper cover missing, it has an aftermarket gas cap, it has minimal MINIMAL rust a little around the wheels in the rear, but the body is quite solid. This would be an excellent first car for someone, cause let's face it, it just doesn't go that fast. Maybe you would like to attend some car shows, with the proper attention it could even bring you home a ribbon or two. Or maybe you live at the beach and would like to have your own "beach buggy" the options are limitless. I want someone who will have as much fun with it as I did. It is eligible for antique plates in most states as it is 30+ "An oldie but a goodie" THIS CAR DOES NOT RUN. It would have to be trailered. I am offering the little Rabbit with NO warranties expressed nor implied, if you want that you had better go buy a brand new one. Otherwise this 30+ year old VW is sold as-is where is. I invite and encourage any and all questions that you may have, please feel free to ask. Lana 573-819-0132 I may not know the answer, but will do my best. I would prefer that you inspect the car prior to bidding, but I can send more pictures per request. The
car can be stored here outside for 30 days or so but must be paid for
in full with-in 7 days of auction end, if it is not then I will assume you
no longer have interest in the car and will re-sell it. You
will not receive your deposit back. I will require an immediate deposit of $500 via paypal, with the balance in cash/cashier's check at time of pick up. So with all that said good luck and happy bidding ! |

VW previews retouched 2014 Touareg for Beijing
Wed, 16 Apr 2014Volkswagen is in New York this week showing off its new Jetta and Golf TDI SportWagen concept. But in less than a week, the German automaker will be off to China for the Beijing Motor Show, where it will showcase the revised Touareg you see here.
A subtle update on the Touareg that's been on the market in its current form for four years now, the facelifted model features reworked styling front and rear, an updated interior and a host of new technologies to keep it current in the highly competitive SUV market. Among those new features are larger bi-xenon headlights, coasting function, Google Maps integration and a post-collision braking system designed to prevent a second crash.
VW will offer the new Touareg with a variety of engines around the world, but in North America it'll carry over the same six-cylinder powertrain options as the outgoing model: a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 horsepower, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 240 hp (though torque isn't listed, we'd expect around 406 pound-feet, same as last year) and a hybrid that marries a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 to an electric motor that combine to deliver 380 hp.
McLaren F1 poaches Jost Capito from VW WRC
Mon, Jan 18 2016The executive shuffle continues at the McLaren Formula 1 team with news that Ron Dennis has lured Jost Capito away from his position as head of Volkswagen Motorsport. Capito will become the CEO of McLaren Racing, replacing Jonathan Neale who took the position on an interim basis at the beginning of 2014 to replace Martin Whitmarsh. Whitmarsh, who had been with McLaren for 24 years and spent five of them as F1 team principal, left the company after being moved out of the CEO position. Neale, on the other hand, who has been with McLaren Racing since 2001, is moving over to the newly created position of COO of the McLaren Technology Group. Capito left the Ford SVT division in 2012 to run VW Motorsport, and has spent the past three years shepherding the brand's World Rally Championship to three consecutive driver's and manufacturer's titles. Before that, his lengthy racing resume includes developing high-performance BMW engines, winning the Dakar Rally as a co-pilot, executive positions with Sauber in the early nineties, and managing Ford's WRC team. Dennis, who first approached Capito last summer, called him, "extremely impressive, competitive, and ambitious." The Woking team has some great parts, but it hasn't been able to make the most of them comprehensively since the end 2012 season. Autosport says that Capito has the ability to make the best pieces work together, which will probably be his biggest challenge at McLaren. Capito will remain at VW until a successor is found. Automakers want to stop the EPA's fuel economy rules change, and why that's a shortsighted move
Tue, Dec 6 2016With a Trump Administration looming, the EPA moved quickly after the election to propose finalizing future fuel economy rules last week. The auto industry doesn't like that (surprise), and has started making moves to stop the EPA. Ford CEO Mark Fields said he wanted to lobby Trump to lower the standards, and now the Auto Alliance, a manufacturer group, is saying it will join the fight against cleaner cars. The Alliance represents 12 automakers: BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota, VW, and Volvo. Gloria Bergquist, a spokesperson for the Alliance, told Automotive News that the "EPA's sudden and controversial move to propose auto regulations eight months early - even after Congress warned agencies about taking such steps while political appointees were packing their bags - calls out for congressional action to pause this rulemaking until a thoughtful policy review can occur." The EPA was going to consider public comments through April 2017, but then said it would move the deadline to the end of December. That means that it can finalize the rules before President Obama leaves office. The director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, Jack Gillis, said on a conference call with reporters last week when the EPA originally announced its decision that it is unlikely that President Trump will be able to roll back these changes. Gillis also said on the same call that any attempt by the automakers to prevent these changes would be history repeating itself. "These are the same companies that fought airbags, and now promoting the fact that every car has multiple airbags," he said. "These are the same companies that fought the crash-test program, and now are promoting the crash-test ratings published by the government. So, it's clear that they're misperceiving the needs of the American consumer." There are more reasons the Allliance's pushback is flawed. Carol Lee Rawn, the transportation program director for Ceres, said on that call that the automotive industry is a global one, and many automakers are moving to global platforms to help them meet strict fuel economy rules around the world.
