1982 Vw Rabbit Diesel Manual on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
This is a great little car that gets 40 (in town) 45-50 (highway), but it needs some work. It has 220,000 miles on it. I'm selling it because I’m looking to get a newer car. Here are the pros and cons. Pros (the following prices are from partsplaceinc) - 5 Speed = $200 Mostly New Tires (I replaced all the tires no more than 12,000 ago. They all have good tread). = $109 New Heater Core (As is the case with these older cars, the heater core rusted out and I got radiator fluid all over my floor panels. So I replaced that last winter). = $170 ish New Breaks (Front discs and break pads, and rear break pads all replaced since November). = $100 Radio & Front Speakers (See pic below) = $230 New Injectors, Heat Shields, and Returns = $35 All Radiator Hoses Replaced Since I purchased the car. = $35 Back Left Wheel Bearings (inside and outside) just changed. = $45? Right Drive Shaft Replaced (no more than 12,000 miles ago). Total = $924 that you don't have to spend in parts yourself. -Goodies included - = 24 Timing Belt (I think I bought the tension too. That would be another $27) 19 x 4 = 76 Glow Plugs, = 30 Injector Socket, = 12 Break Vacuum Pump Kit, = 40 Compression Tester Total = 182 + 924 = $1100 on parts for the car that you will not need to spend. Cons -Injection Pump needs work (It currently runs, but will die when it is still cold and has an uneven idle when warm. Additionally, it is smoking much more than it should). -Vacuum Pump not working (I have the rebuild kit which would come with the car, just haven't installed it yet. The breaks work, but are stiff without the aid of the pump). -A Few Rust Holes (These are on the passenger side right behind the wheel. See pics below. One of the previous owners dented it there allowing salt to corrode the metal. But for a 34 year-old car that has been in the Mid-west all its life, this is not bad). -Dent (A previous owner hit the back right corner into a pole. I have been working on building it back up, but haven't had time to finish the project. See pic below). -Primer Paint Job (The car was originally silver, but has been painted orange and then primer black. On the negative side, it doesn't look all that pretty. On the positive side, the additional layers of paint have helped preserve the body over the years). -Tail Light Casing Cracked/Chipped (The plastic casing that holds the bulbs is cracked off at points. There is place for two bulbs to be hooked up per tail-light, but only one is currently hooked to each). -Steering Wheel Bearing and Cover (The lower bearing in the steering shaft is missing, which means it clanks when you turn the wheel. Also, the center cover to the steering wheel is missing. See pic below. The horn still works by grounding the horn wire to the metal of the steering wheel). Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. Click on over to view the extensive gallery of high-quality images from Ran When Parked.
2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES
Fri, Jan 2 2015Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned. Production Volkswagen Taigun crossover caught in patent filing?
Wed, 01 May 2013Volkswagen brought an angular, bulldog-like small crossover concept called Taigun to the São Paulo motor show last year, claiming that it wanted to gauge interest in the design before making a decision about production. If a new report with alleged leaked patent images is to be believed, then, interest must have been pretty high.
China's Auto.Sohu.com has published this group of Taigun images, claiming that they have been sourced from the Chinese patent office and that the subcompact VW utility based on the Up! has been cleared for production.
If all of that is true, and if these images are representative of the final product, you'll see that designers haven't done much to alter the concept car's appearance. Comparing, shot for shot, with the images we have from Brazil, we see that even small details like roof rack-mounted lights and exhaust tips integrated in the rear fascia have been carried over. Take a closer look for yourself in the attached galleries.
