1981 Vw Rabbit Caddy Truck 1.6l Diesel on 2040-cars
Lake Isabella, California, United States
Up for No Reserve auction is a '81 VW Rabbit "Caddy" pickup for restoration or parts. The truck was last tagged in CA Jul 2000. It hadn't run since until, last week. I was able to get it running but it ran poorly and smoked. It has 2 tires that go flat, a couple of rust pin holes on left front fender, surface rust on cab top and hood. One turn signal up front is damaged / missing. Left taillight damage. Body is pretty straight and appears to be original paint. Interior, seats are in usable shape, headliner is there but sagging. Dash is fare but covered. Radio missing knobs and loose.
I have one ignition key. The door key is lost. The truck has the rare and desirable 5 speed transmission and rear camper cap. I bought this little truck because of fond memories of one I had 10 yrs. ago. It had only a 4 speed transmission and limited 70 ish mph top speed while getting 50+ mpg. I figure this one with the 5 speed should do even better. If I were a bit younger I would rebuild this one and relive those memories and with todays economy be way ahead on fuel mileage. Title is clear but misplaced at present. If not found by auction end an application for duplicate title and transfer will be signed and provided. The truck is for sale locally and is to be sold As-is, where is. |

VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives
Tue, Dec 23 2014Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli
VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years
Sun, 26 May 2013It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.
Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.
