1975 Volkswagen Rabbit Swallowtail Original Low Mileage Survivor on 2040-cars

Year:1975 Mileage:40733

Up for auction is a early ultra base model 1975 Volkswagen Rabbit with 40,733 original miles.

Build date: 12/74

I purchased the car about a year ago as a "barn find" and have replaced the basic maintenance bits such as...

-Timing belt & tensioner

-Plugs, NOS wires, dist cap & ignition rotor

-NOS Master cylinder, NOS front wheel cylinders & front brake shoes

-Rebuilt Carburetor

-Tires

-Cleaned fuel tank

-Filters, fluids etc

In result the car runs and drives down the road well. I've only put 12 miles on the car since March so I personally wouldn't hop in it and go across country.

The car is all original minus the two front seats which are 1975 seats but have the incorrect material and the original bumpers & wheels have been refurbished.

This early Rabbit has no options. No radio, no A/C, no CIG lighter, rubber Floor mats, front drum brakes, no door sill plates, no door (vent) window defroster. The basest model I've personally ever have seen. Absolutely ZERO rot on or around strut towers. The original paint shows very well but there is patina as to be expected for nearly a 40 year old car.

One of the previous owners put foam in the bracing under the hood therefor it rotted the hood. I have gotten quotes on fixing it but I second guessed it because of the originality of the car.

I know I'll never find another car like this but I do know its time to let it go. (cant keep them all) :(

International bidders welcome!!!

Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van

Fri, Feb 14 2014

Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog. VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.

VW ID.4, the new Buick Envision and crossing Hyundai's N Line | Autoblog Podcast #668

Fri, Mar 5 2021

In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd. It's a review-packed episode this week, but it kicks off with a discussion of Volvo's plans to electrify by 2030 and move their EV sales online. From there, they get into Greg's time with VW's game-changing new ID.4 electric crossover. Byron then talks about his time with two very different new vehicles: the 2021 Buick Envision luxury crossover and the 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line, which may or may not be a sport sedan. Finally, they tackle a fascinatingly complex twitter question: What is the best 'economy' muscle car?
