Hello! For sale is my 2002 Volkswagen Passat GLS 1.8T 4Door Sedan.

The car has been in my family since 2002 and is accident free. I've decided to move on to another car so this one must go. All sales are final. The car is sold AS IS.

Details about the car:

21 MPG City, 30 MPG Highway
109 CID Engine, 4 cylinder, fuel injection, 1.8L Turbo
Tiptronic 5-speed automatic transmission
Front wheel drive with traction control
Anti-lock braking system
Air conditioning
Silverstone Gray Metallic Exterior and Black Velour Interior

Also has a power glass sunroof, monsoon sound system.

The odometer currently reads 207,730 miles.

The interior of the car is in great shape. It does not come with floor mats but there are no rips in the seats, only a few minor stains. I used to vacuum and wash the car every two months so the interior is above average for a 12 year old car.

The exterior is solid. The body is in decent shape with only 3 minor dents (one above front left light, one above driver side door, and one on the side of the driver side rear). There are scratches all over the exterior but they are minor. The front left grill is also missing but doesn't affect anything about the performance of the car, just appearance.

Cons:
-The check engine light has been on for the last 6 months. The engine definitely sounds odd while driving but I have driven it at least 30/40 miles a day for the last 6 months and have not had any issue. It definitely starts and runs. The check engine light could be a minor fix or a major fix, I honestly don't know what is wrong with the engine. I haven't had the time or money to take it in for repairs so buy at your own risk.

-The hood latch must be popped by hand. As you can see in the pictures, it is broken and must be held up with some sort of contraption. I will give the winner bidder the white pole we have been using for the last 5 years while working on the car and will also show how to open the hood.

***I forgot to include this in the original listing= the Passat failed the Maryland State Emissions Test in June so it will need to be taken to a repair shop and have the problem fixed. Here are the results from the test; failed 6/11/14 (car valid through 10/15/14)- Diagnostic Code P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank. I have no idea if that is a small or major fix. I don't have the time or money to do this so please bid accordingly.

Feel free to ask any questions before bidding. All sales are final, and cash or paypal are acceptable forms of payment. NO RETURNS.

The car is located in Severna Park, MD and must be picked up at our house or somewhere else local.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.

VW and partner SAIC start building $2.5B Audi plant in China

Fri, Oct 19 2018

BEIJING — Volkswagen AG's China joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp has started building a $2.5 billion new energy vehicle (NEV) plant in Shanghai, which will make VW's luxury Audi brand cars, a possible first for the venture. The new plant is a key step for Audi to diversify production of its cars in the world's largest car market from its long-standing local partner, China FAW Group Corp. This shift has been delayed amid resistance from local dealers. SAIC Volkswagen said the new plant would have an annual capacity to make 300,000 cars and begin production from 2020. Audi sold 481,387 vehicles in China from January to September this year. The announcement comes the same week Tesla secured a Shanghai location for a Gigafactory battery plant to serve the Chinese market. Audi unveiled the plan to bolster ties with SAIC in late 2016. Earlier this year, the Germany luxury carmaker bought a 1 percent stake in the SAIC Volkswagen venture, paving the way for the joint venture to produce and sell Audi cars. Volkswagen currently gets a larger proportion of the proceeds from the 50-50 tie-up with SAIC than from its 40 percent stake in the venture with FAW. SAIC Volkswagen said in a statement on Friday the plant would cost 17 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) and would make VW and Skoda models as well as Audi cars. It will help VW tap China's fast-growing market for NEVs, a category comprising electric battery cars and plug-in electric hybrid vehicles. 2015 Volkswagen Touran is the Euro MPV exemplified [w/video]

Wed, Mar 4 2015

Among the vehicles Volkswagen doesn't sell in the United States, we retain a soft spot for the tiny Touran MPV. Five doors, a reasonably sized trunk, clean sheet metal and an attractive cabin is an appealing combo, after all, regardless of the form factor. For the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, VW updated the popular compact van for European audiences. Like the Golf-inspired styling of the second-generation model, the popular hatchback's looks are clearly evident in the third-generation Touran. The Golf's small upper character line is more dramatic on the van, although the general taillight and headlight shapes are remarkably similar. The grille, meanwhile, is more Passat than anything else, with a conservative three-bar design. The R-Line model gets more dramatic front and rear bumpers, with black accents on the former and a pair of chromed exhaust tips jutting out underneath the latter. The cabin is typical of Volkswagen, with handsome materials throughout. Piano black is the dominant accent material, found on the dash and steering wheel, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and hide seats both look like nice enough. Check out our full gallery of images of the new, third-generation Touran from the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen presents the new Touran - Germany's best-selling MPV completely redeveloped - More room; smart new design - New engines up to 19 per cent more economical Volkswagen presents the new Touran. The completely redesigned MPV was showcased before an audience of international media representatives at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, not far from the production site where the popular family car is made. The interior of the new model has undergone a significant increase in size and is highly configurable. Refinements have been made all around the vehicle, which boasts a range of six new economical engines and an extensive line-up of assistance and infotainment systems. The public premiere of the new Touran will take place in the coming week at the Geneva motor show. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, explained: "As one of the most successful family cars in the world with 1.9 million units sold, the Touran is indisputably Germany's top MPV.

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

Sat, Feb 3 2018

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
