Offered as a TRUE NO RESERVE auction is my 1997 Passat TDI. It just rolled 188k miles on it and still runs like a champ. As with any older TDI, it has it's quirks....BUT, let's be honest, we buy these cars cause you get 40+ mpg and can go over 700 miles before filling up.
I bought this, my THIRD Passat TDI, two years ago to travel back and forth to my training for my current job. The daily round trip was almost 180 miles, five days a week. Even at $4 a gallon, I was getting a better cost per mile than any other car I could have bought at the time. I would not sell this one, as I regret selling my last two Passat's, but it will not hold a family of five and two dogs for any length of trip without losing our sanity.
Check out this review on the 1997 TDI Passat if you don't know anything about these cars, or are on the fence about buying one- http://www.cars.com/volkswagen/passat/1997/expert-reviews/?revid=29555
GOOD
- The car has current Texas tags (June 2013) and inspection (July 2013). Those will stay with the vehicle if sold to another Texas owner.
- FULL service history since 2001
- BF Goodrich tires with plenty of tread remaining
- NEW Injection pump at 149,307mi. The previous owner ran biodiesel through it (hence the sticker on the trunk) and it destroyed the o-rings, so I replaced the pump.
- Timing Belt replaced at 160,913mi
- Water Pump replaced at 160,913mi
- Camshaft seal replaced at 160,913mi
- Intermediate shaft seal replaced at 160,913mi
- A/C serviced at 179,945mi and blows ICE COLD
- Owner's Manual and 3 keys
- Recirculating coolant heater for below freezing nights to help this cold blooded baby start (bought it in Colorado and owned it in Wyoming before moving to Texas). It is the plug coming out of the front grill.
- Oil changed every 5k-7.5k miles.
- Passenger side glovebox.
BAD
- Check Engine Light is on with two codes. I do notice a slight lack of power on very hot days when accelerating at highway speeds. It is back to normal the next time I drive it.
- Code 00575 - intake manifold pressure has deviation from desired value
- Code 65535 - intermittent checksum error
- Windshiled is cracked
- Passenger side view mirror glass fell off. I have it so you can reattach it if you want. It fell off over 10k miles ago.
- The key began to only work intermittently to start the car, so I installed a push button start. The car will not start without the key in the run position.
- Passenger side front window regulator is going out. It will not stop running up or down unless you take your finger off the button.
- Passenger side rear window goes down on its own occasionally when you open the passenger side rear door with the engine running.
- Passenger side rear door sometimes will not lock.
- The trunk can only be opened by inserting a screwdirver through the black rubber grommet to trigger the trunk release. The bar on the mechanism broke a few month ago and this was a quick, cheap fix. I have not had anythig stolen out of my trunk since doing this over 6 months ago.
- It uses/leaks about a quart of oil between oil changes. It doesnt leak when sitting for an extended period of time; just loses a few drops when the engine is still warm after shut off.
- Occasionally on start up the trip odometer and clock will reset. It happens more when it gets cold out.
- Small dents, dings, scratches, and fading paint consistent with a vehicle of this age and mileage.
- No tears in the uphostery, but there are stains on the seats and factory floormats.
I have listed everything I can think of that is wrong with the car. Even with these issues, I have no problem driving it ANYWHERE in the country on a moments notice, and have done so on more thasn one occasion. Again, I am only selling it to replace it with a larger vehicle for my family and I don't like having my driveway look like a used car lot. If you have any questions for me, or would like to see more specific pictures let me know and I will get that to you as soon as possible.
This is a USED car and is being sold AS IS WHERE IS, with NO WARRANTIES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. However, be prepared to drive this car and enjoy the mileage and comfort of it for years and many, MANY, more miles. I will not deliver it to your door, but I am available to deliver it to the nearest shipping terminal or pick you up from the airport in Waco, TX as long as we can work around my shift schedule. Vehicle is located in McGregor, TX 76657.
A $250 deposit is due via PayPal within 24hrs of the end of the auction with the remainder due via Bank issued cashier's check within 7 days.

Lincoln Aviator returns, VW ponders pickups, and Subaru Forester endures
Mon, Apr 2 2018NEW YORK – Volkswagen is taking a hard look at a pickup truck, the Lincoln Aviator is back, and you love old Subarus (we'll explain). The New York Auto Show returned last week with flair and a wide range of promising reveals. Let's break down some of the big news, plus a few things you might have missed. News: Ford is fortifying Lincoln with the Aviator SUV Views: Doing a mid-size SUV is obvious. Calling it the Aviator wasn't. I like it. Using Navigator design cues, this thing looks the part and should give Lincoln some energy and sales volume. Not playing in the midsize SUV segment has been a mistake for Ford's luxury brand, and the Aviator should fill a much-needed hole. Props to Lincoln for dusting off the Aviator name, most recently used on a rebadged Ford Explorer built in 2003-2005. It sounds classy and historic, like something from 1930s, even though it only dates to the tail end of the " Friends" era. Speaking of names, when the MKC gets a new one, Lincoln should dust off Zephyr, a moniker it actually used in the '30s and then briefly in the early 2000s. Why use the Aviator name? Jim Farley, Ford's president of global markets, said it's about reminding consumers that Ford has traditionally built strong SUVs. "I think in a way the legacy is falling in love with what we do best," he said. "We wanted to go back to our roots. We know how to do this well." Farley also said the Aviator could prove to be Lincoln's bestseller. The Aviator was well-received in New York, earning our Best in Show award and garnering cautiously optimistic reactions from some analysts. "Lincoln ran this experiment once before ... differences in the market conditions, stronger differentiation and appetite for utility vehicles may prove a different story for this Aviator," IHS analyst Stephanie Brinley said. View 19 Photos News: VW surprised the car world with the Atlas Tanoak pickup concept Views: Good move. VW should build this. The concept is based on a longer version of the Atlas platform and would take aim at the midsize truck segment. VW is using this prototype to "gauge the reactions" of automotive influencers, but make no mistake, the Tanoak is totally doable. Using Atlas bones and mechanicals punched up with rugged styling and some soft-road capability, the Tanoak would grow VW's portfolio in a smart way. The Atlas Cross Sport concept, also revealed in New York, signals that Atlas expansion is already underway.
Volkswagen adding R-Line trim to Touareg, Tiguan for 2014
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Volkswagen introduced its aggressive R-Line appearance package on the CC and Beetle last year, but later this year, this treatment will also be applied to VW's crossovers, the Tiguan and Touareg. Both sporty-looking utility vehicles will be unveiled next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 Tiguan R-Line comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and the package adds 19-inch wheels, grey fender extensions, body-color side skirts and a liftgate spoiler. Inside, the R-Line adds a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black headliner and numerous metallic trim accents such as the stainless scuff plates, the aluminum pedals and metallic finish on the instrument and door panels. The Tiguan R-Line will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
As for the 2014 Touareg R-Line (shown above), this model gets an ever more distinctive look with an aggressive front fascia, 20-inch wheels and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets in addition to the painted side skirts and LED taillights. Similar metallic interior trim pieces found inside the Tiguan R-Line will also make their way into the Touareg as well as gloss black accents on the instrument panel and center stack.
Volkswagen Group's Vision 2030 strategy could bring revolution to the brands
Sat, May 11 2019One would expect a corporate plan called "Vision 2030," looking 11 years ahead through wildly tumultuous times, to involve great change and numerous forks in numerous roads. According to Automobile's breakdown of Volkswagen's path forward, though, the plans contain some lurid potential surprises. The ultimate aim is return on investment, and that means ruthless reorganization of a conglomerate with eight primary car brands, two car sub-brands, and Ducati motorcycles. The first two Vision 2030 cornerstones Automobile mentions are near boilerplate: Production network restructuring, and "streamlining of key technologies." The latter two are the ones that could upend what we know as the Volkswagen Group: focusing on the Group's core brands — meaning Audi, Porsche, and VW — and transitioning to EVs, autonomy, and other mobility solutions. Based on the report, a quote from Audi's CTO referring to the Audi brand could cover how the Group plans to handle all of its brands: "We need to find a sustainable solution for the indefinite transition period until EVs eventually take over." The boutique divisions adjacent to carmaking, Ducati and Italdesign, look likely to be spun off. For the halo car brands — Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini — apparently shareholders want double-digit returns on investment, and the trio doesn't have long to hit the target. One eyebrow raiser is when the report states, "Bugatti is tipped to be gifted to [ex-VW Group Chairman] Ferdinand Piech." Piech fathered the Veyron during his tenure at VW, and it was thought he commissioned the La Voiture Noire, but he's lately stepped so far back from VW that he sold all his shares in the Group. Automobile quoted a senior strategist as saying of money-losing Bentley, "Why invest on a backward-looking enterprise when you can support a trendsetter? A proud history and excellent craftmanship alone don't cut it anymore." We guess no one at Ferrari, McLaren, or even Porsche got that memo. Bentley is reportedly close to being put in time out, and if brand CEO Adrian Hallmark can't right the Crewe ship, the hush-hush Plan B is to prop the Flying B up enough to lure a buyer. As for Lamborghini, caught between two masters at Audi and Porsche, even record-breaking numbers at the Italian supercar maker barely staved off sacrilege. It's said that VW brand CEO Herbert Diess considered putting a 5.0-liter Porsche V8 into the Aventador successor.
