I have set my reserve price under $10K to sell this car this week!
Adult driven since new. I purchased this 43-year old K-Ghia convertible from the second owners (elderly sisters). It was sold new in Chico, CA at North Valley VW. This is an extremely dry, California car with no rust repair ever, having lived its entire life in the sunny Sacramento Valley area. The pans, rockers, etc…. are all in great condition. As you probably already know, 1971 was the best year for the K-Ghia convertible with its real glass rear window, disc brakes, the classic chrome bumpers with “towel racks” (last year) and smaller tail lights to name just a few.
INTERIOR The interior is in excellent condition. It was restored by the previous owner a few years ago and still looks really nice. The seats are firm and very comfortable with only a barely noticeable, 1-inch tear in the cloth material. The faux wood instrument panel is excellent, and the padded upper dashboard only has a one crack in it (through the speaker grill). In addition, the carpets are really nice and the headliner is in great shape as well. It still retains the stock, factory steering wheel and the horn actually works! I don’t think the cassette player’s functional. All the lights work, including the blinkers. The visors are like new.
EXTERIOR While the exterior of my K-Ghia has had an inexpensive repaint, and some less than stellar bodywork, it still retains the original factory lemon yellow color throughout. It looks really cute from a distance, and beautiful driving by on the street, but up close one can tell that it has had its share of bumps and bruises over the past 43 years. There is still a silver dollar sized ding on the nose and overspray on some of the rubber trim pieces. All the door and hood gaps are excellent, except for the front trunk. It is misaligned and the new owner may want to address this issue should he or she ever have the car repainted. The convertible top is BRAND NEW and it seals perfectly. The original chrome bumpers are excellent and it still has the original chrome trim pieces including the side moldings, hubcaps, and trim rings. The tires have lots of life left. Also included is a nice convertible top boot for when the top is down. It is black with white piping and is in excellent condition.
MECHANICS: This Karmann Ghia convertible runs and drives great! It can cruise down the freeway at 60 to 65 MPH all day long! The transmission, clutch and brakes all feel like new. It is simply a joy to drive, especially with the top down. Just warm it up and off you go!
So in the end, for under $10,000 the winning bidder will be getting a great running 1971 K-Ghia Convertible with a new top, no rust, AND still retains the original factory lemon yellow color – which is of great value unto itself.
Please attempt to view my car in person before the end of the bidding session. Remember that this is a virtual auction. If you are uncomfortable, or unwilling to pay for my car before seeing it in person then please do not waste my time or the other bidders with your participation. If you are lucky enough to be the winning bidder, I will require payment in full within 72 hours of the end of the auction. The only acceptable payment is by wire transfer (I bank with Wells Fargo), or cashier’s check. Once the funds have fully cleared, I will release the clean title and then the new owner can make arrangements to either have the car picked up by a transport company, or simply drive it home.
PS – Reason for selling: we recently purchased a beach house and just got the bids for a full remodel. The costs were significantly higher than we anticipated so it is time (according to my wife) to replenish our savings account by selling a handful of vintage German cars from my collection. Please feel free to view my other current ads on eBay for my 1968 VW Westfalia Camper and my 1963 Karmann Ghia Convertible. When I have sold these three vehicles, I will be selling two more of my vintage show cars. Please cjall me directly with any questions. My name is Chris and my phone number is (916) 220-2460. I WILL NOT BE RESPONDING TO ANY EMAILS. Thank you and good luck. |

2015 VW Golf R caught getting a flogging on 'Ring
Wed, 22 May 2013The upcoming version of the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly ready for prime time, if this video of the car flying around the Nürburgring is any indication. The all-wheel-drive R seems to make quick, neat work of the corners we see here, and sounds pretty devilish in the process.
Expectations are that the new Golf R will run a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (what else?), tuned to produce even more than the current car's 256 horsepower. (Some sources have indicated outputs as high as 286 horsepower, with 280 pound-feet of torque. It's still not clear if Volkswagen will bring the six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the US-spec Golf R in this next go-round or if we'll stick to having only... eh... the stick.
In either case - watching the video below will only whet your appetite for the new, highest performing member of the Golf family.
2023 CES Editors' Picks
Mon, Jan 9 2023Over the past few years, it has become more and more clear that the Consumer Electronics Show is a car show. And this year that reality is more clear than ever. Not only did established automakers show off seriously important vehicles, but a traditional electronics company brought a car that gives an idea of its intents (with the help of establishment car company). With so many car reveals, we had to rank our favorites. Our picks for this show are entirely electric. Or at least, they are on paper, since many are concepts. Considering the name of the show, it would be a little strange if they weren't. In fact, not only are many of our favorites concepts, they all are save for one. See how they shook out below. VW ID7 camo View 28 Photos 5. Volkswagen ID.7 "The ID.7 definitely got lost in the crowd at CES. That it was camouflaged definitely didn't help, even if that camo was electroluminescent (BMW trumped it big time with its color-changing Dee). Nevertheless, this is a close-to-production hatchback-ed sedan, not unlike today's Arteon, with an extra-long wheelbase courtesy its EV architecture. It should be a solid answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and even if people obviously prefer SUVs now, VW says there is still a market for sedans. I know I'd probably prefer one." –Senior Editor, West Coast and Reviews, James Riswick Peugeot Inception concept View 12 Photos 4. Peugeot Inception "It's not often that show debuts surprise us. While Peugeot teased the Inception ahead of CES, its unveiling seemed almost incidental. But just look at this thing; it's like an electric French Mustang with someplace important to be. I don't buy into the stupid 'It's not a wheel!' thing that Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson described as providing a video-game-like drive experience, but that bit of silliness aside, this is a really promising design study. Give us more of these and fewer tall boxes, please." –Associate Editor Byron Hurd Afeela prototype from Sony Honda Mobility View 11 Photos 3. Afeela by Sony Honda “Ever since Sony showed off an impressively put-together concept car at CES a few years ago, IÂ’ve been anticipating the companyÂ’s next move. Apparently, that next move is “Afeela.” No, I donÂ’t love the name. The specs from SonyÂ’s original concept car give me hope that this prototype sportback (itÂ’s a hatchback!) will be fun to drive, though.
Skoda racing Up! to Worthersee with Citigo Rally concept
Thu, 17 May 2012If you thought the Volkswagen Group was about to wind down the endless stream of concept cars based on the new Up! city car, think again. Because not only is the Volkswagen brand itself keeping the train a-moving, so are its sister brands.
Skoda has its own version of the Up called the Citigo. But what racing fans know the Czech subsidiary for best is its rally program that has become a dominant force in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the basis for VW's own foray into the World Rally Championship. Now Skoda is bringing the two together with an exciting concept car previewed by the rendering above and confirmed in the press release below.
Following in the footsteps of the tantalizing Fabia roadster unveiled last year, the Citigo Rally concept is to be the centerpiece of the Skoda display at the Volkswagen Group's annual hot-hatch gathering at Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Details are scarce, but the show car will feature rally-inspired bodywork complete with 18-inch white alloys packed into aggressively flared wheel arches, a substantial rear wing and vents aplenty.
