Classic 1966 Vw Karmann Ghia With 1776cc Performance Engine on 2040-cars
Reno, Nevada, United States
|
1966 VOLKSWAGEN KARMANN GHIA Classic 1966 VW Karmann Ghia with 1776cc Performance Engine for
sale. If you are looking for a classic Ghia, it will be hard to find a nicer one
than this car. With just 52K original miles the car looks, runs, and drives
fantastic! This Nevada high-desert car is rust free, very straight, and has perfect
pans. It even has the rare and coveted
perfect Ghia nose (never been hit). Add
a 1776cc performance engine with dual Weber IDF 40mm carburetors and this is an
exceptional classic car.
Mechanical: Performance wise, the car has lots of power,
excellent brakes, good handling, and smooth shifting. With a 1776cc engine and
dual Weber IDF 40mm carburetors, the car has the perfect balance of horsepower
and performance without giving up reliability and economy. The engine is still fresh
with approximately 14K miles, and it is mounted to a rebuilt 12Volt Transmission.
The dual exhaust system on the performance engine sounds beautiful. The car
fires up quick with a Compufire Electronic Pointless Ignition.
With the added horsepower of a 1776cc engine, the Ghia
cruises down the highway at modern speeds with lots of horsepower to spare. The
running gear has been maintained and serviced and the car handles superbly.
There is no play in the steering and she is responsive and tight in corners. This
Ghia is a real runner and a sheer joy to drive, but is also plenty reliable for
everyday use.
See more engine details below in features list.
Exterior: Speedometer shows 52K original miles, and the car’s
incredible condition testifies to its history. This is a Nevada high-desert car
with no rust and a perfect Ghia nose. The glass is all in great condition with
no chips or frosting. The trim, molding, and rubber on the car have all either
been replaced or are in good condition. The car has a number of rare original
trim pieces and all 1966 specific pieces such as the dash trim. The side
molding has specially embedded rubber in the chrome to protect the car against
shopping carts, car doors, and other parking lot mishaps. It looks great but is also easily swapped out
for original chrome molding if that is your preference. With a classic beauty
like this car, the flexible molding is an ingenious way to protect the car and
keep it looking great.
The dark green and white paint are in good condition. The
chrome on the car is all in very good to excellent condition, as are the
bumpers, with the exception of a couple of small dings. The chrome rims with
Wolfsburg adorned hub caps look like new. The engine compartment and trunk are
impeccably clean and the car even has the original tool kit and jack.
Interior: The interior is mostly original and in great
condition. Even the emergency flasher knob works, and glows red when the signal
is activated. The carpet is like new and the car also comes with a set of
specially fitted rubber mats that can be used on the floor to keep the carpet
looking new. The dash, headliner, and visors are in great shape with no stains
or splits.
What’s Not Perfect: The doors open and close well and latch
tight, but the passenger door could use a new hinge pin to make it swing
smother. While overall the body is extraordinarily straight, there is a scratch
and small indentation below the passenger door where a mechanic lowered a jack
too fast. The paint on the car is good and polishes up nice, but could eventually
use a wet sanding to make it pop like new again. There is a little paint chipping
in the engine compartment.
In Sum It is almost impossible to find a Karmann Ghia in
such exceptional condition these days, much less one this powerful and this sound
mechanically. The car grabs everyone’s attention at car shows and on the road. For
someone who is looking for a classic Ghia with great performance, this is the
perfect car for you. If you are interested in viewing this beautiful car, contact
the Seller through ebay and we can set up an appointment.
There are very few Karmann Ghias this clean that haven’t
been through a complete “ground up” restoration, i.e., this Ghia is in very
good to excellent condition for a car that is nearly 50 years old. Considering
the condition of this car, and the fact that the engine/carburation alone is
valued at over $5,000, the winning bidder will not only be purchasing a beautiful
and sporty car, but will also be making a great investment. Indeed, as
collector prices for solid Karmann Ghias continue to rise, this rare car is
just going to keep increasing in value.

Canada expands cooperation with EPA over VW scandal
Tue, Sep 29 2015It doesn't take much more than a stiff breeze to send some US pollution northward across the 49th parallel. Perhaps that's why the Canadian government says it is standing strong with the US in its continuing investigation of Volkswagen and the allegations and self-reporting that the automaker installed software to try to game emissions regulations. In fact, the Canadian government is going to do its own slate of on-road testing to see how VW diesel engines perform in real-world conditions. Last year, about 1.8 million new light-duty vehicles were sold in Canada, which is about equal to how many were sold in Maryland. That compares to about 17 million new-vehicle sales for the US. But every bit counts when it comes to an increase in potentially harmful emissions, and the Canadian government says it wants to make sure VW's diesel engines are being properly monitored, whether they're sold in Detroit, MI, or across the river in Windsor, Ontario. And that means following up – together – on allegations that Europe's biggest automaker is using so-called "defeat devices" in what it has long called its "clean diesel" engines. The automotive industry continues to be roiled by the VW scandal, in which the automaker said that as many as 11 million of its vehicles may contain software programmed to manipulate emissions-testing procedures. Volkswagen has set aside $7.3 billion to deal with the scandal, while VW CEO Martin Winterkorn was forced to step down after the issue became public. Take a look at Environment Canada's press release below. Statement - Government of Canada expands its on-going collaborative work with the U.S. EPA to assess other diesel vehicles for defeat devices OTTAWA, Sept. 26, 2015 /CNW/ - On September 22, 2015, the Government of Canada opened an investigation into Volkswagen's alleged use of defeat devices to circumvent emissions regulations. Environment Canada issued the following update on the issue: "The Government of Canada has a long history of collaborating closely with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to align emission standards, as well as to provide oversight and verify compliance with applicable emission regulations "Today, the Government of Canada is announcing that it has expanded its ongoing collaborative work with the U.S. EPA to assess other diesel vehicles for defeat devices and compliance issues. "Vehicles will be subject to a variety of tests including on-road testing using portable emission measurement systems.
UK auto magazine says this is the best car commercial of all time [w/videos]
Thu, 20 Dec 2012There have been many great car commercials over the years, but is it possible to define the best? Well, Ad Week recently took a crack at it by rating the top commercials of the year by looking at their view counts on YouTube, but Auto Express took a more democratic approach by putting the decision to a vote. Just after Thanksgiving, Auto Express came up with a list of the 20 popular commercials, and it tasked its readers with choosing the winner for the best car ad of all time. The winner? Honda's 2003 commercial for its then-new European Accord titled "The Cog."
While the ad never aired in the US, most car people have surely seen the impressive Rube Goldberg-style spot. In fact, the only commercial on this list that we saw on US television was the Volkswagen ad "The Force," but many of the others have become viral videos, including transforming and dancing Citroën C4. Of the 19 other commercials that vied for the title of best ad of all time, only the Ford Puma "Steve McQueen" commercial gave Honda a run for its advertising money.
Scroll down to watch Auto Express' top five commercial in order and to check out a press release, then let us know some of your favorite car commercials in Comments.
Recharge Wrap-up: meet the '66 ZelectricBug, DOE announces home-scale H2 refueling competition
Thu, Oct 30 2014The US Department of Energy has launched the $1 million H2 Refuel H-Prize competition to create small- to medium-scale hydrogen refueling systems. The systems could be home-scale systems that produce hydrogen using utilities at home for refueling, or medium-scale systems to supply locations such as retail centers, apartment complexes or small fleets. The DOE sees hydrogen fueling infrastructure as the biggest obstacle to fuel-cell vehicle adoption and putting the production and refueling in the hands of the consumer could be a way around that obstacle. Read more at Energy.gov and at Green Car Congress. Hyundai has announced a new six-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motor for new hybrid models. The new configuration puts most of the hybrid powertrain components within the transmission, and the torque converter has been eliminated. The new engine clutch reduces drag with fewer clutch discs, and the mechanical oil pump has been replaced with an electric one. The result is fewer energy losses, improved efficiency and greater mileage. Read more at Hybrid Cars in Reuters or in the press release from Hyundai below. Zelectric Motors has completed its electric 1966 Volkswagen Beetle rebuild, and has put it up for sale. The '66 ZelectricBug, as it's called, is powered by a 50-kW electric motor and 20-kWh battery pack, and offers 120 pound-feet of torque. It has a range of 80 miles, and is capable of at least 100 mph. The stock transmission has been rebuilt. It also has some new goodies like high-performance sway bars, custom shocks, and LED lighting. The '66 ZelectricBug is priced at $45,000. Check it out in the video below and read more at Hybrid Cars. A startup called Alevo says it will build a billion-dollar factory in North Carolina to make longer-lasting lithium iron phosphate batteries. Alevo has purchased an old cigarette factory in Concord for $68.5 million, but it's unclear whether or not the company has secured the $1 billion investment to begin producing batteries. The company plans to create 2,500 to 6,000 jobs and produce several gigawatts worth of batteries per year, which is a tall order for a relatively unknown company. Read more at Gigaom, or in Alevo's press release below. Tesla owners in Shanghai will be exempt from the city's $12,000 registration fee. About 400 people have already received the free license plates in Shanghai, where the government wants to encourage alternative fuel vehicles.
