1961 Karmann Ghia Convertible, New 1600cc Engine W/less Than 1500 Miles on 2040-cars
United States
1961 Karmann Ghia convertible.Very Rare. Body is sound, no repairs done during my ownership, floor pans solid, convertible top is top-of-the-line fabric and is in excellent shape,New engine (1600cc) just put in, with less than 1500 miles on it. New battery and voltage regulator. All doors shut soundly. Pix of floor pan demonstrate that it is solid. I have owned this car for about 14 years, and have clear OH title. Carpet is top of line, in excellent shape, and has sound-deadening backing for quiet ride. Headliner is decent, could use cleaning, but not sagging. Has repairable 4" tear in headliner in back seat. Back seats are in good shape, but they are same fabric/cloth, so could us recovering. Seats need recovered, they are passable but cloth so didn't hold up well, but they are the original frame seats, but otherwise interior is in good shape. Dash/plastic could use recovering, but the old style dash is all intact, with Blaupunkt original stereo. Redoing the dash on a 61 Ghia is nothing more than gluing plastic back in, I just didn't want to start something that someone might want to change. No known damage to any part of vehicle, including nose. I see a bit of bondo on top part of one of headlights, but magnet test reveals nothing else on rest of body. I have had it for 14 years, and during that time it has never been painted nor any body work, so this is an unmolested car, with NO hidden rot under recent work. It does need a new paint job to spark it up or leave as is. Also, the bumpers are original, and need rechromed, or can buy replacements, but these are original, solid bumpers, just pitted up. The same is for the luggage rack, it is pitted (it is an aftermarket luggage rack, no holes drilled to install). Rear plastic window is there, just needs sewn back in, easy fix. Also, slight leak in brake line, but that's an easy fix too. This is a great candidate for restoration, or just drive as is...either way, this is a great, sound, ride you'll get tons of enjoyment riding around town, or highway at 90mph!!! There is a slight leak in brake line, easy fix. All work done by Dayton VW expert mechanic, the only guy I've ever used. This is mechanically strong and fit, just could use a bit of cosmetic (bumpers/seatcover/paint), and you've got a classic Karmann Ghia Convertible, with a 1600cc engine. Buyer assumes all pickup/delivery cost arrangements. $1000 deposit required within 24 hours of winning bid. You won't be disappointed, unless you pass this up! I reserve right to end auction if local buyer makes cash offer. I have 2 original keys. I don't have prior paperwork from when I bought a long time ago from a guy who lived in Lodi California (just for reference, it was a "black-plated" ghia, meaning it had old school plates licensed in California.), nor much maintenance from VW expert that has done brakes/valves etc. This car drives like a dream.

America was the unexpected theme at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show thanks to Trump
Wed, Jan 11 2017President-elect Donald Trump was not in attendance at this year's Detroit Auto Show, but it sure seemed like he was the target audience for many of the press conferences and announcements surrounding the event. Several manufacturers chose to play up existing and future commitments to the US in general and American jobs specifically in their presentations to the press, and we're pretty sure that has everything to do with Trump's recent targeting of automakers on Twitter. To us, it seemed automakers were going on the offensive to try and preempt any future tweet-shaming for investing in auto manufacturing anywhere but the US. The pro-America sentiment started the week prior to the auto show, with Ford announcing that it would build several future electrified vehicles at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan and also cancel a $1.6 billion factory planned for Mexico. Ford announced the two items on the same day, but the reality is that they likely have no relation to each other; the Mexican plant is being skipped because the company doesn't need the extra capacity to build the Ford Focus right now. Trump was still happy to share the news on Twitter. Then, on Sunday, FCA announced it would invest $1 billion in manufacturing plants in Ohio and Michigan to produce the new Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Wrangler-based pickup. It's not as though those potential new jobs were on their way out of the US, necessarily, but FCA took the opportunity to mention that plant upgrades at the Warren Truck Plant would allow the company to build Ram heavy duty trucks, which are currently assembled in Mexico, there. CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed that Trump and his proposed tariffs had nothing to do with the decision. We certainly believe that, but we also have to believe that the timing of the release, positive outcome for America, and zero gain for Mexico were all orchestrated. Again, Trump sent out a victory tweet as if this had been his doing. Ford then used its press conference at the show on Monday to reiterate the plans for Flat Rock and also confirm that the Ford Bronco and Ranger nameplates will be returning to the US market, and that both will be built at a plant in Michigan. Announcements of manufacturing locations are usually aimed at the UAW, which certainly has a stake in these things, but again this one was broadcast to the auto show crowd in general.
Jay Leno takes a ride in Gabriel Iglesias' classic 1966 VW bus
Tue, Feb 3 2015We've seen Jay Leno driving all manner of vehicles, many of them epically fast. But few (this is side of his steamers, anyway) have been as slow – or quite as beautiful – as this classic 1966 Volkswagen Samba. While many of the vehicles featured on episodes of Jay Leno's Garage have actually been from Jay Leno's own garage, the former talk-show host has been known to feature some interesting rides from fellow comedians. A couple of weeks ago it was Adam Carolla's '68 Lamborghini Islero, and this vintage, pristine VW bus belongs to Gabriel Iglesias. It's in beautiful condition and is a sight to see, even if it has a little trouble making its way down the highway. Or starting up again after a quick snack break.
UK auto magazine says this is the best car commercial of all time [w/videos]
Thu, 20 Dec 2012There have been many great car commercials over the years, but is it possible to define the best? Well, Ad Week recently took a crack at it by rating the top commercials of the year by looking at their view counts on YouTube, but Auto Express took a more democratic approach by putting the decision to a vote. Just after Thanksgiving, Auto Express came up with a list of the 20 popular commercials, and it tasked its readers with choosing the winner for the best car ad of all time. The winner? Honda's 2003 commercial for its then-new European Accord titled "The Cog."
While the ad never aired in the US, most car people have surely seen the impressive Rube Goldberg-style spot. In fact, the only commercial on this list that we saw on US television was the Volkswagen ad "The Force," but many of the others have become viral videos, including transforming and dancing Citroën C4. Of the 19 other commercials that vied for the title of best ad of all time, only the Ford Puma "Steve McQueen" commercial gave Honda a run for its advertising money.
Scroll down to watch Auto Express' top five commercial in order and to check out a press release, then let us know some of your favorite car commercials in Comments.
