2006 Volkswagon Jetta Tdi on 2040-cars
Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States
You are bidding on a single owner 2006 Volkswagon Jetta TDI. As described in the vehicle condition section, the car is not perfect but it is in very good shape for its age and mileage. This car was used as a commuting vehicle and most of the miles were all on the open highway. All maintenance has been kept up with. The clutch has been replaced and is currently in great shape. Timing belt was replaced at approximately 100,000 miles. Both front wheel hubs have been replaced (I consider this a normal maintenance item given the mileage and age). There has been some other mechanical work done and all major work has been done at the VW service center. All maintenance records are available on request. Very high quality tires (Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus) were installed around 190,000 miles and are in excellent condition. There is an existing 80,000 mile manufacturer's warranty on the tires (about 63,000 miles remaining) which is transferrable to the new owner. The tires have been rotated and balanced on schedule. It is about due for a tire rotation. The seller will have the tires rotated and balanced and an alignment performed at no additional cost prior to delivery upon buyer's request. The vehicle has also had regular alignments performed. The rear brakes were recently replaced and are in very good condition. All original owners manuals and other documentation (even including the window sticker!) is available and included with the vehicle. All original keys are included: 2 full function "remote" keys as well as 1 "valet" key. Wheel lock is also included. The car rides very well and is still very "tight" given it's age.
Everything on the vehicle works perfectly...all electronics (radio, controls, heated seats, heated mirrors, power windows, cruise control, windshield wipers, door locks, etc.) mechanical, A/C, heat, and lights. The only exception is the accessory left turn signal on the side view mirror. This is likely just a bulb that needs to be replaced. Other than that one bulb, EVERYTHING on the vehicle works just like new. The vehicle is equipped with Sirius Satellite radio. SiriusXM service is currently active but there is no guarantee it will remain active and a subscription is not included with the sale. The premium sound system is very nice and has always been one of the best features of the car. The sound is very high quality, good amount of bass, and really helps to make a long ride more enjoyable. This car has served the single owner very well since it was purchased new. The mileage shown on the listing and in the photos is current as of the listing date. Final mileage at the time of sale may be up to 100 miles greater due to incidental driving, requested test drives, etc. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'll try to provide as much information as possible. I have bought and sold cars on EBay before and I have always had very good experience. The starting price is "priced to sell" so don't think it is a low price because there's something wrong with the car. This sale is auction style to the highest bidder. Good luck! Shipping Details: Seller will deliver the vehicle to the buyer free of charge only to a location within 25 miles of zip code 08055 in the US. Outside of that range a delivery charge can be negotiated up to 100 miles from zip code 08055 or buyer can arrange for a carrier service. Outside of 100 miles from zip code 08055 buyer is responsible to make arrangements and pay for shipping of vehicle. Payment in full must be received prior to releasing vehicle for shipment. |

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South
Sat, Feb 15 2014Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.
This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1
Fri, 22 Aug 2014According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.
