For sale is this ONE OWNER, outstanding condition, 2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI GLS wagon. Before I get any further, as of this memorial weekend our Jetta has the following items brand new, that I personally installed.

Brand new Camshaft.
Brand new lifters and cam bearings.
Brand new cam bearing bolts.
Brand new Camshaft seal.
Brand new Timing Belt and water pump.
Brand new tensioner and pulleys.
Brand new EGR flex pipe.
Brand new Boost hose (Turbo to intercooler)

Within the last 4 months the original owner also installed:
New headlights
New Starter
New Alternator
New Vacuum pump
New Air flow metter
4 new Michelin tires.

The Jetta has 241,000 miles, but if you see the car, it looks as if it only has 100,00 miles. The paint is original except the front bumper appears repainted. There are some minor stone chips on both fenders next to the headlights, and the bumper is spotless, basically the reason I believe it was repainted. The interior is flawless and NOT WORN with the exception of a small wear mark on the driver seat from getting in and out (Photo). The engine is bone dry, not a drop of oil leaking from it. Suspension is tight, no worn axle boots or control arm bushings. The original owner kept up with all the maintenance.

The Jetta is fully loaded with moon roof, leather/heated seats, Volkswagen monster mats. CD, Power door locks with key fob, multi function steering, alloy wheels etc. The original Volkswagen booklet is also with the car. The Jetta runs and amazingly, everything is in perfect working order. The AC blows cold, heat works as it should. The Jetta does not smoke or rattle and sounds great for a diesel. The clutch works flawlessly with no indication of being worn. We have no doubts it has been changed in the last 2 years. There are no warning lights or codes displayed. The headliner is a 9 our of 10. This Jetta is simply in GREAT condition. See for yourself and if you have any questions, just ask.

We will supply temporary plates should you decide to fly in and drive the Benz home.

Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs

Sat, 01 Mar 2014

Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
