We bought this car in 2003 when it had 20,000 miles from the original owner. Runs fine, but... we're selling it because it failed the OBD test at the DMV and we don't want to pay $1,200 for a new catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. It now has over 110,000 miles and has its share of urban wear and tear. Some of the expected door dings not visible in the pictures, the driver-side rear wheel well is scraped (see picture), the back bumper has been bumped and chipped many times, the body near the back wheels has asphalt globs of course, we have kids, so there are miscellaneous food stains inside and normal wear and tear.  I believe the wheels probably need alignment now. The car appears to consume oil although it seems to be slowly doing so. Uh... lessee... the doors are creaky when you open them. It was in an accident about 8 years ago in which the passenger side door was hit but no air bags deployed. It was fixed. We have some of its repair records in a folder. Despite all this it has been a relatively trouble-free car and we have enjoyed it all these years. We're sad to see it go.

Let me know if you have any questions. Please no dealer inquiries for selling this car. It's for sale on eBay and that's it. It goes to the highest bidder in one week. Pickup only at our house in Washington, DC. You will need to bring tags because the inspection extensions and registration will have expired by the time this auction is over. If you're sending a shipping company to pick it up, we're happy to make arrangements to meet them here at the house. ANY check (even certified) must clear before we transfer title or simply pay in cash.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. We're starting the bidding at the comically low price of $1 with NO RESERVE! Woo Hoo! Have fun with it!

Andretti Autosport partners with Volkswagen for Global Rallycross season

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Michael Andretti and Volkswagen have both been involved in Global Rallycross for a couple of years, but not together. Andretti Motorsports Marketing organized the final round of the 2012 GRC series in Las Vegas, and there were rumors then that Andretti was going to get in. Around the same time there were news reports that Volkswagen was preparing a 600-hp Polo Mk5 to race in the SuperCar class; the photo above is racer Anton Marklund in his privateer Marklund Motorsports Polo at the 2013 X-Games round in Los Angeles.
Now it's official: Andretti Autosport will campaign the 2014 GRC season with VWs. That's all that's been said for now, Andretti being busy at the moment launching four entries for IndyCar, two for Indy Lights and two for Pro Mazda. We have a feeling we'll be seeing the MkVII Golf involved, but the cars and the driver lineup will be presented at the Chicago Auto Show on February 6.

Porsche 911 and Nissan 350Z get smoked by unlikely hero

Mon, Jun 1 2015

So a Nissan 350Z Procharger and a current Porsche 911 GT3 drive onto the Autobahn together - stop me if you've heard this one before - and they decide to race. We're not sure how much power the Z is packing, but the stock model topped out at 306 horsepower on the last year of its run in 2009. And if that's a stock GT3 then it will be rocking something like 475 horsepower. So the Z and the GT3 give it a racing go, and just as one of them starts to pull away they're both overtaken by one of the most unlikely dark horses you could imagine. It's a really short video and we won't spoil the surprise, so check it out above. Anti-union group files lawsuit against VW and UAW

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

The fight for unionization at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN, factory isn't letting up. Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board decided to allow anti-United Auto Workers employees at the plant the right to defend voting down the measure. Now, a group called the National Right to Work Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of five workers against VW and the UAW for allegedly working together to organize.
The group says in a release that it wants "to block further collusion between the company and the United Auto Workers." It alleges that VW forced workers to attend "mandatory pro-union meetings" and prevented managers from opposing. In a rebuttal on its website, the UAW called the claims "baseless" and said its actions were entirely legal.
One possible problem faces the carmaker in regards to the lawsuit. According to the Detroit Free Press, a recent US Court of Appeals ruling found that neutrality agreements like the one the business had with the UAW could be illegal if the company provided "things of value" to the union. The newspaper also claims that VW held a mandatory employee meeting concerning the election, but workers were free to leave during the UAW's presentation.
