and retro-modified 1990 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan VR6 Mk2
has grey cloth RECARO interior with front power seats
and Wolfsburg chrome trim and will includes a set of five forged BBS wheels
Kenwood CD/MP3/USB/iPod stereo with Kicker speakers, amp, and subwoofers.

vehicle is powered by a 1998 VR6 2.8L engine with OBD2 and 5speed 020A transmission and the engine is dressed with a stainless steel skid plate
and completed with a T-304 stainless steel exhaust
Battery relocated to the trunk with fused relays for the headlights and stereo.
Also have the USDM front grill with Hella lights and
a full European Quad grille with Glass Halo lights and a badge-less grille.
The car can be shown, seen, and inspected by appointment.
This vehicle was completely redone and has about $40k invested.
Similar vehicles have been sold from $15k-$25k.
This car is not a project car and is complete and a daily driver or show car.
Vehicle passed Virginia State Inspection and Emissions certifications in 3/2013.
Which means no Virginia state inspection until 3/2014 and it will not have to pass emissions in the state of Virginia ever again as it will be considered an antique in 2015 by Virginia DMV laws.
Please be aware that currently the car is setup without Power steering or Air Conditioning but the brackets are there and these could easily be added to the vehicle if wanted. The car runs better without these features in my opinion.
Weight savings on the A/C delete was nearly 300 lbs and the manual steering is much more responsive.
Everything works on the car as it should heat, gauges, and rear defroster.
Suspension is dialed in on Raceland coilovers with T-304 stainless steel solid front strut mounts.
Simply put, you could not build this car for less than what I am asking for it.
This car was custom built from a 1990 VW Jetta GL with no accident history and it is an original no sunroof vehicle with manual windows and the basics.
The interior was sourced from two Jetta GLI 16V factory Recaro equipped cars.
The engine swap and conversion was sourced from a rear hit 1998 VW Jetta GLX with only 78k miles on the motor. The car had about 90k miles on it before the restoration, swap, and build. The engine conversion and swap was completed using factory parts and Euro-wise conversion kit.
Again, you could not build this car for less than what I am asking for it.
Parts and Labor this car would be twice my asking price.
Send offers.
I will entertain trades, offers, and may offer a partial owner financing option.
Plan to sell this car by the end of the month, so don't hesitate if interested.
Vehicle will be advertised locally, appear at local car events with a for sale sign, and will be listed on eBay as it must be sold.
I am a car enthusiast, having built, modified, and tuned many vehicles over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed this vehicle. I am selling this Jetta to focus on other projects and interests. This is an exceptional vehicle that you could drive anywhere. I feel that I do not drive it enough and thus have decided to list it for sale. Need the space, have to let go of my toys. Bring all offers.

I will assist with shipping, pickup, or delivery.

Please be aware:
I have a Wolfsburg Edition steering wheel but it is not currently installed, due to the need of a steering wheel hub adapter.
There is an air horn in the car and it is currently wired to a button on the dashboard. All wiring is correct except for this function and the windshield washer function.
Currently the horn and windshield washers are wired to buttons rather than their respective locations in the steering column.
I could not isolate the windshield washer switch toggle on the washer arm and therefore wired in a push button feature.
The upgraded air horn required a relay and these two functions could be wired to their factory locations, switches, and functionality if needed.
The wiring for these two functions (horn and windshield washers) was done as a temporary solution to opening up the steering column wiring.
The buttons are located in places which could be removed to maintain a factory look installation.
I had planned on correcting this when I installed the Wolfsburg steering wheel and just have not gotten around to it.
Pretty minor issue.
The headliner is in great shape, the Recaros are in excellent shape but there is a small spot on the driver seat that has a cut about one inch long. Yet it is in pretty good shape and not frayed or anything, probably could be stitched or glued. Only noticed it because I'm meticulous when it comes to my cars.
There is a Fuba Antenna is in the rear dash area, because I didn't want to drill a hole in the roof of the car.
Car has a recent tune, oil, lube, filter, new battery, new alternator, recent s-belt change, the Falken tires are decent, brakes are decent, but I would expect brakes and tires with normal wear and tear may need replacement within one year depending on how much you drive.
All-in-all this is comparable to a brand new car.

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

2015 VW Golf R ready for your pre-order on January 8

Mon, Dec 22 2014

If you want to be the first person on your block with Volkswagen's latest Golf R parked in your garage, you need to clear some time from your schedule on January 8. On that day, VW is opening the pre-order books for the first 500 Stateside examples of the new hot hatch, and they come with some neat accessories, too. Don't worry about specing just the right Golf R because all 500 early models are identical. In addition to the obvious 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 292 horsepower 280 pound-feet of torque and 4Motion all-wheel drive, the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox is the only option here. Every one of these hot hatches comes in Lapiz Blue Metallic paint with 19-inch wheels covered in summer performance tires. Based around the DCC and Nav trim, each of them also has VW's adaptive damper system, bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights, a Fender audio system, parking sensors and navigation. Beyond just being the first ones to own VW's latest hot hatch in the US, the deal for these 500 folks also includes a Volkswagen R watch, carbon fiber and stainless steel keychain and a certificate. All three items are serialized to match the VIN of the buyer's Golf R. The total price for each one of these 500 Golf R's is $39,090, plus $820 destination and delivery. But potential buyers don't have to come up with all of that on January 8. They just need to visit VW's Golf R site and pay a $500 reservation fee to get in line, which goes toward the purchase of the car. The money is refundable for anyone who backs out, and any additional orders are put on a waiting list in case of any cancelations.

Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.
