Here we have a 1986 VW Jetta GL Wolfsburg. It is equipped with the HO turbo diesel NOT the Eco diesel. 5 speed trans. Lets talk about the bad first and get that out of the way. It has the typical VW rust as you can see in all the photo's I have provided. The drivers rear door handle is missing as you can see in the photos and the bottom of the same door is rusty but that's probably the worst part of the car in my opinion. I was always just going to get a used rear door and replace it. It also has some rust around the windshield as you can see. But overall its a nice looking little car for the year. The radio has been missing from the day I got the car, no biggie to me I don't listen to a radio while driving anyway. Good for you because you can install any one you would like, the plug is there. The right rear door opens when it feels like it, I know, kind of weird but it does. The tach does the "wild boogie" dace occasionally since the new alternator was installed, the tach works off the alternator for you that don't know. The AC did work this summer but must have a small leak because the compressor wont turn on now. Now on a happier note. The Wolfsburg for you that don't know was made in Germany, and GL is the top of the line model with the extra trim package, AC and power steering along with the HO turbo diesel engine mated with the high ratio 5-speed transmission for the diesel powered GL models. Injection pump rebuilt this summer, along with a new timing belt. New battery last year 4 new tires New alternator New struts I have always used AMSOIL synthetic oils in the car, engine and trans. I am religious about oil changes, every 5000. The car runs and drives like a top, it drives like its on rails ! She starts right up on the coldest of days no problem. The HO turbo diesel is a peppy little rascal, it gets great fuel mileage, I average 50-55 MPG. When I bought this car the gentleman told me that the engine had been replaced with a long block from VW, at that time he said it had about 60,000 miles on it so my best guess would be that it has around 90- 100,000 miles on it now. This car is in no way perfect nor am I claiming it is, but it is a great little car and has always been super reliable to me and with the proper care and maintenance it will continue to be for years to come Im sure. This car is my daily driver and I love it ! But we are going to buy a brand new Jetta TDI wagon, I also have a Rabbit diesel Im selling as well. My wife made a good point a few weeks back and I had to agree with her, we are paying 2X plates and insurance and Im only driving one car at a time, we also travel back home to Wisconsin from Michigan on a regular basis so I guess a new car is in order. The mileage will go up on the car until we get our new Jetta Wagon, as I said earlier It is my daily driver. I have provided LOTS of photos so be sure to take a good look at all of them. I am offering the little Jetta with NO warranties expressed nor impelled and you are buying it as-is. Im sure you can understand with any used vehicle I can not make any guaranties of any kind nor will I. I invite and encourage any and all questions that you may have, please feel free to ask. If you are bidder with less than a 50 feedback ratings you must contact me prior to placing a bid, if not I will cancel it. The car can be stored here outside for 30 days or so but must be paid for in full with-in 7 days of auction end, if its not than I will assume you no longer have interest in the car and will re-sell it, and thusly you will not receive your deposit back. As the old saying goes "It only takes one bad apple" and I have had the misfortune of meeting a few. So with all that said good luck and happy bidding ! |

Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1
Fri, 22 Aug 2014According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.
Ecotricity offering 1,000 free EV miles to new customers
Thu, Feb 13 2014Ecotricity is offering electric vehicle drivers in the United Kingdom an lengthy incentive for using green energy: 1,000 miles of free fast charging per year. Called "Green Electricity + Car," the program will power customers' homes with renewable power allow them to charge their cars through Ecotricity's national network of fast chargers, which the company has named the Electric Highway. It makes complete sense for Ecotricity. "To get the greatest environmental benefit from an electric car, it needs to be charged using 100 percent green electricity from the wind and the sun – otherwise you're still powering it from dirty fossil fuels," wrote Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity. Ecotricity, a UK-based producer of green energy, wants to bring fast charging to 90 percent of highway service stations around the UK in the near future and four fast chargers are installed per week under the Electric Highway campaign, the company says. Users can fast charge their EVs in 20-to-30 minutes. Ecotricity recently instituted a price freeze for all gas and electricity customers until April 1, reducing energy costs below what's being billed by the country's "Big Six" energy companies. Green Electricity + Car coincides with Volkswagen bringing its electric e-Up! to the British market. Volkswagen Group (UK) Limited imports VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda brand vehicles and has signed a deal with Ecotricity as its official green energy supplier. Volkswagen Group customers purchasing an EV through one of its brands can take advantage of a new, reduced-cost Ecotricity tariff and a free smart meter installation. 08 February 2014 Green Electricity + Car Drivers of electric cars will receive 1,000 free miles every year with a new electricity tariff being launched by green energy company Ecotricity. Green Electricity + Car – will not only power customers homes with green energy but also their cars (either 100% electric or plug-in hybrids), plus they'll get free access to Ecotricity's national network of fast chargers[1] – the Electric Highway. This latest move comes after Ecotricity announced a price freeze for all gas and electricity customers until the end of winter (April 1st), making them cheaper[2] than the standard tariff of the Big Six energy companies.
VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania
Sun, 23 Feb 2014Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.
