2009 Volkswagen Gti Base Hatchback 4-door 2.0l on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
2009 GTI with the thunderbunny bumper package. This bumper kit alone runs for $3000 from Volkswagen and looks much better than the stock bumper the GTI comes with. Car has always been meticulously taken care of mechanically and cosmetically. All regular maintenance done at the dealership and detailed every 3 months, I have all records in hand for maintenance. This GTI is sporting a 3" APR turboback exhaust which gives the car a deeper tone without sacrificing comfortable cabin noise, The exhaust brand new is $1700. Also has an APR Carbon fiber air intake which gives the car better throttle response and a little more horsepower. This GTI sits on Solowerks adjustable coilovers and Avante Garde M220 wheels, giving the car a unique and aggressive look. I also have all the OEM parts if wanted when purchased. This is one of the most fun cars to drive and will make a great addition to the garage. It needs a few parts which I would be more than glad to pay for when purchased. It needs new high density upper strut mounts ($60) for the front shocks, The OEM mounts squeak on bumps but DOES NOT affect the driving or safety of the car. A new O2 sensor is needed as the original one is faulty ($150), and the OEM throw out bearing for the clutch makes a slight squeak when released, a $40 part that I would be more than happy to have fixed with purchase of the car. It shifts smoothly through all gears and I would be more than happy to accommodate any needs to repair these parts. There is one small knick on the rear fender lip which is an easy fix. If interested or would like to see the car in person feel free to message me or call (858) 342-7122. |

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads
Fri, Sep 11 2015Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver. German judge 'inclined to dismiss' hedge fund lawsuit against Porsche
Fri, Feb 27 2015Last year, around two dozen investors, including hedge funds, leveled a 1.4 billion euro ($1.95 billion at the time) lawsuit against Porsche in connection with the automaker's attempted takeover of Volkswagen in 2008. The Stuttgart Regional Court dismissed the case. Around 19 of those plaintiffs are heading back to court to appeal the ruling and still hope to get 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion). However, according to one German judge, the chances for success aren't any better this time around. "On balance it's our view that we consider the lawsuit, or the appeal, to be unpromising for several reasons," Gerhard Ruf, a judge in Stuttgart, said to Reuters. "We are inclined to dismiss the case." The court's ruling on the appeal will be announced on March 26. The investors' case hinges on Porsche's strategy surrounding the botched takeover. The sports car maker said that it wasn't trying to control VW, when in fact it was. These hedge funds had bet against Volkswagen stock, but the share price surged when Porsche's plan inevitably came to light. Investors have sued the sports car company multiple times since then in attempts to recoup billions of dollars. However, none of the lawsuits have been successful, whether attempted in the US or Germany. Former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and and CFO Holger Haerter might still stand trial for the alleged stock manipulation, though. 1000-hp Mk1 VW Golf is terrifyingly cool
Tue, 04 Jun 2013There are plenty of things to love about the Mk1 Volkswgen Golf. The machine's horsepower isn't one of them. From the factory, the little hatch cranked a breathy 112 horsepower from the most robust form of its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Boba motoring, however, has taken that figure and multiplied it by a factor of nearly 10. If 1,000 horsepower sounds terrifying in a machine with a wheelbase of just 94.5 inches, it should. A massive Garrett GTX4202R turbo force-feeds the little mill through a tweaked 16-valve KR head. The crew calls the beast the 16Vampir, and we think that's fitting.
Of course, we'd wager you quit reading right about the time you set your eyes on that headline. Those of you who've stuck around this long can point yourselves below to see the maniacal creation in action. You won't be disappointed.
