2005 Vw Golf Diesel, 5-speed, New Interior, Clutch, Tires, Brakes, Headlights on 2040-cars
Tarzana, California, United States
2005 VW Golf TDI 5-speed with 142,851+ miles. Average 45-50 MPG.
Custom interior - gray roof liner replaced, installed mottled blue leather door liners (all doors), black door handles/control panels (originally gray), blue shift boot, Hawaiian blue neoprene premium seat covers (2012), new UNFOGGED headlights (2012) with new bulbs (June 2014), new brakes (rear - June 2014, front - May 2013), new clutch (June 2014), 4 new Ecotopia tires - increases MPG to 55 (June 2014), new battery (September 2013). Tough, all-weather mats for all 4 seats as well as a cargo liner in the hatch. Towing bar (2000 lb max) installed underneath, new engine sheath/cover underneath (June 2014), timing belt changed at 95,000 miles. Pioneer touch-screen CD/DVD/Ipod/Sirius XM with Navigation system. This car is in very good shape. The seats are covered only because I am a swimmer/diver - original seats are in good condition. All maintenance was done either at the dealership or with well-known companies - all records of maintenance available. Runs great. It has been in one very minor front-end collision where the hood latch broke, but that was the only damage - all collision work was done at a VW dealer. There are 3 less-than-dime size rock chips in the windshield, but they are not in the field of vision for the driver. The tint is in decent shape, but will probably need to be replaced in a couple years. The vehicle will be sold in Los Angeles, so you must be able to pick it up before August 1, 2014. I have the head rests for the back seat & the carpet mats in my house in Georgia, so they will be sent separately when I return to the house in August. The car is originally from Florida. |

VW recalls 1.1M Jetta, Beetle models in US, China over suspension fears
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Volkswagen is recalling about 1.1 million vehicles in China and North America in a newly announced campaign affecting the rear suspensions on some models. For the US, the action covers about 442,265 vehicles, including 400,602 examples of its 2011-2013 Jetta and 41,663 units of the 2012-2013 Beetle and Beetle Convertible. According to Reuters, the recall affects a further 126,000 vehicles in Canada and about 581,090 in China, including related market-specific models like the Sagitar.
The problem can occur if the affected models have a collision to the rear or the side-rear of the vehicle. It's then possible for the trailing arms on the torsion-beam rear suspension to be damaged. If the harm isn't noticed, then the part could fracture while driving. Obviously, a broken rear suspension is going to have an adverse effect on handling.
To fix things, VW dealers will inspect the trailing arms on the models, and they will all receive a sheetmetal part that will make a distinctive sound if broken in the future. If already damaged, the entire torsion beam will be replaced. Obviously, this work will be done at no charge to owners.
Automakers face reality of EVs' cost — to jobs, and their bottom line
Tue, Sep 12 2017Related: We obsessively covered the Frankfurt Motor Show — here's our complete coverage FRANKFURT, Germany — European car bosses gathering for the Frankfurt auto show are beginning to address the realities of mass vehicle electrification, and its consequences for jobs and profit, their minds focused by government pledges to outlaw the combustion engine. As the latest such announcement by China added momentum to a push for zero-emissions motoring, Daimler, Volkswagen and PSA Group gave details about their electric programs that could give policymakers some pause. Planned electric Mercedes models will initially be just half as profitable as conventional alternatives, Daimler warned — forcing the group to find savings by outsourcing more component manufacturing, which may in turn threaten German jobs. "In-house production is almost irrelevant to the consumer," Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche told reporters on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, in the midst of a German election campaign in which automotive jobs have loomed large. The company set a target of saving 4 billion euros ($4.8 billion) by 2025 to help fund the cost of its electric cars. "Daimler is the first company to state explicitly how much electric vehicles are going to hurt margins," said Bernstein analyst Max Warburton. "It was brave to go first — but of course it won't be the last." Volkswagen, for its part, said it was seeking new global supplier contracts to source 50 billion euros ($60 billion) of electric car content including batteries, which are not yet manufactured competitively in Europe. "A company like Volkswagen must lead, not follow," Chief Executive Matthias Mueller told reporters. VW diesel emissions-cheating exposed by U.S. regulators in 2015 triggered global public outrage, dozens more investigations into test-rigging by the wider industry and a push by some lawmakers to ban diesel and eventually all engines. TIGHTENING NOOSE Tesla shares jumped nearly 6 percent on Monday after a Chinese minister said it was a question of when, not if, Beijing bans fossil-fuel cars, tightening the noose around the combustion engine. France and Britain have promised its outright abolition by 2040. But PSA, the maker of Peugeots and Citroens, said it was concerned about the risks if consumers were left behind in the rush, and a new generation of battery cars does not sell.
