There is NO RESERVE so as long as there is at least one bid it will sell.

For sale is my 03 Golf TDI with the last of the great highly sought after ALH motor and 5 speed manual transmission. I'm the second owner. I bought it from an older woman, ~60ish, and her mother at 128k miles around last November. It just rolled over 135k the other day. I've been using it to commute to Rutgers 5 times a week and as a daily. I honestly thought I'd be keeping it a lot longer, but I'd like to put some money into my other cars.

Mechanically it's great. It was always dealer serviced prior to my ownership - I have some maintenance records and a summary history of all visits to the dealer. I'm only going to list the major and recent service.

____________________________________________

This is everything I've done since I bought the car:

12/5/13
Alignment (Steering wheel is still a little off center, but drives straight)
Thermostat
Wastegate actuator
Front Control Arms
Motor/trans Mounts
Wiper Blades

12/15/13
Washer pump
Rear wiper assembly
Hella horns

5/2/14
Driver Door Lock

Pros: Great working car for commuting. Everything works like it should, it's very basic, no warning lights- runs and drives excellent! Cosmetically the car is good. Absolutely No Rust. Interior is cloth and in great shape. Tranny shifts great, I consistently average 45-46 MPG, 550-570 miles to a tank with $40-43 in diesel, in stop and go on Rt18 to school and around town. Turbo spools instantly and is very responsive.

Cons: It has a few scratches, mainly on the rear bumper so please look at the pictures, a few stone chips on the hood, and I resprayed the quarter panel because of a small crease (the color match is extremely good), there is some paint peeling up on the hatch's handle, and lastly one of the cupholders is broken. (A new one is $30 here on eBay and replaces in about a minute of work)

The car was involved in a front end collision in April 6th of 2004. I noticed on the summary report from the dealer that 3 things were replaced on Sept 12th of 2005. I called VW and they said the PS headlight, grille, and bumper were replaced.

The other accident was in a parking lot and lightly dented the quarter panel and scratched the bumper. I bought the car with this damage. The damage before being fixed is pictured. (Scroll to the very bottom)

That's everything. I tried being as upfront and honest about the car as possible. Please don't hesitate to ask questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability. It's getting very hard to find nice examples of these cars with this kind of mileage and with a 5 speed.

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

More Fun Than A Prius, Less Sensible Than A TDI
Let's have some fun, and do some math. We're talking pretty rudimentary stuff, multiplication and division, to figure out if the upcoming Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid can make a baseline case for itself against two very strong competitors in this segment. The competitors in question, at least for now, are two more Jettas: the diesel-drinking TDI and the fit-for-the-masses SE with VW's long-serving 2.5-liter engine.
To keep the equations clean and simple (hey, we're writers), we'll calculate based on the most flattering EPA miles per gallon stat from highway driving for all cars, assume a healthy 20,000 miles driven per year, and factor in today's average cost for the respective fuels these three require: diesel (TDI), regular (SE) and premium (Hybrid). We'll also start with the base prices for all models.

Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world

Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.
