This is a one of a kind camper van.  It started as a great one owner Winnebago camper van and was professionally converted to Tdi power by grease works in Corvallis, Oregon. It’s got a built up AHU/ALH/1Z hybrid engine with about 150HP . It’s built to deliver power without sacrificing the diesels longevity. The body had 258k miles at time of the conversion. Now has about 20kmiles on performance built engine, rebuilt and properly diesel geared 5speed tranny and all other moving parts (CV axles, steering gear, wheel bearings etc.). Late Passat aluminum 16"rims. Lifted 2.5”, bill stein shocks, nice Nokian van rated tires, mufflerectomy. It has new yakima racks and a pretty large cargo basket. Mounted to that is a 75watt siemens solar panel with smart charge controller and 1600watts AC converter for computer or other gear.  The system charges whenever there’s light and keeps both (aux and main) batteries topped off. Custom stereo system with 6" sub built into the console in between driver and passenger seat, 6 new pioneer speakers, dual amps, separate audio controller for quick fade, subwoofer or tone level adjustments. Custom made european real sheepskin covers on front seats. European bull bar with high intensity LED floods. A/C, CD, MP3 and iPod hookups. Scan gauge and EGT gauge installed near radio for full info. 30-35miles/gallon. Biodiesel ready. Here in CA you won’t need a smog for this as it’s pre ’98.  Since it doesn’t have a cat or muffler it sounds great with the turbo whistling. If you step on it it will smoke some, it’s a diesel :-)

The camper aspect of the van is pretty much as any other winnebago conversion. It has the fresh and grey water tank hooked up to the sink and little rinse shower out back. 2 Burner stove top, 3-way fridge and heater work off of the mounted propane tank. The heater runs on 12 Volt and is great to heat up the van on cold camping mornings. It comes with 2 foldable tables that stow away nicely behind drivers seat. There are 2 bench seats in back which can be taken out if needed. The pop top creates a Queen size bed spread with zipping screened windows, lower bench seat folds down to a full size bed.

I’m the second owner. It came with an additional seatbelt attached to the back of the passenger seat, which the previous owner installed to secure a wheel chair for a family member.

The overall condition of the van is great. Everything is fully functioning. Cosmetically it has a few slight blemishes on the outside body as you can see in the video and pics.

With a possible fee I’ll accommodate pick up at the SMF airport or any other travel/ pick up arrangements if you arrange it with me before.

I’m offering it locally too so I might take down the ad here if it sells local.

Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

Take a listen to the Volkswagen ID 3 and Koenigsegg Jesko

Sun, Dec 15 2019

What could better demonstrate our diametric vehicular future than sound clips of the Volkswagen ID 3 and the Koenigsegg Jesko? Battery-electric vehicles don't make enough noise on their own, so VW partnered with composer Leslie Mandoki for the legally-mandated Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that warns pedestrians and cyclists of the EV's presence. Mandoki — a German-Hungarian who once played drums in a Euro disco band called Dschinghis Khan — was asked to come up with a sound for the ID 3 that VW said "defines its identity," "radiates safety and the promise of effortless mobility," and that "must also impress with its unique character." The definition of the ID 3's single-motor, 201-horsepower character is this: Occupants and people around the hatch can hear the sound as the car accelerates to 18.6 mph, and when reversing. At higher speeds, the sound of wind resistance and tire noise takes over. As our library of AVAS tones grows, it's clear that EVs will provide a soundscape as varied as that of internal combustion engines. Here, for instance, is the industrial thrum used as the Karma Revero GT's pedestrian warning: And here is the sci-fi soaring from the BMW Vision M Next, as composed by Hans Zimmer: At the other end of the aural chamber, we have the Koenigsegg Jesko. In this case, the composer is a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 running on a bio-ethanol E85 blend that's almost suitable for IndyCar, powering the engine up to 1,600 horsepower. Output on pump gas will be 'only' 1,281 hp. The Swedish automaker released a clip of the exhaust note of a car in progress inside the Angelhom factory. Here's what we can look forward to: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. All these sounds have a place at the table, even if we'd prefer Karma booked some time with a producer and an Autotune session. To paraphrase Sesame Street, though, one of these sounds is definitely not like the other.

2020 Virtual Geneva Motor Show Editors' Picks

Fri, Mar 6 2020

There may not have been an actual Geneva Motor Show this year, but there were still loads of car reveals that happened the week that the show would have happened. So we still wanted to highlight what our favorites of the would-be show. Our list of cars seemed to match the theme of the reveals, too, highlighting over-the-top supercars and forward thinking electric vehicles. Scroll down to see our favorites. Fifth Place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster - 21 points Managing Editor, Greg Rasa: Astons are works of art, and this one's ready for the Louvre. The design nods to Aston history are nifty. It looks like a jet fighter, except those have canopies. Not sure what 186 mph would be like in this, but don't try it in summer when there are bugs. Contributing Editor, Joe Lorio: Admittedly, this one is a little silly. A $950,000 sports car with no roof? A 700-hp two-seater with no windshield? But the offerings at the Geneva auto show have always tilted toward absurdity, and Aston’s V12 Speedster is endearingly outrageous as a fighter plane for the street. Third Place (Tie): Volkswagen ID.4 - 26 points Senior Producer, Chris McGraw: I don't have much to say about this other than I am a huge fan of more EVs coming to the market, which is why two-thirds of my picks are electric, including the ID.4. Producer, Alex Malberg: Any new fully-electric crossover is a vote for me. The fact it doesn't look terrible and VW will be including AWD later are bonuses.  Third Place (Tie): Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA - 26 points Road Test Editor, Zac Palmer: Hard to argue with the logic of this one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is already the best driver in this class of hot sedans, so why not extend the lead with a special model. That wing is Type R levels of high, and I completely approve. Associate Editor, Byron Hurd: Love this car. Love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful, aggressive and fast. I'd take it over an M3 or C63 any day. As cool as the GTAm is, though, I'd rather stick to the four-seat GTA. Something about a four-door car with two seats just doesn't really work for me. I haven't alienated ALL of my friends quite yet. Second Place: Hyundai Prophecy - 35 points Senior Editor, Green, John Snyder: I get whiffs of the Genesis Coupe from this sleek concept. I like the focus on form, with interesting details to discover if you look for them. West Coast Editor, James Riswick: Does it look like a Porsche? Sure, but Porsches look neat.

VW bringing fuel cell concept to LA Auto Show

Mon, Nov 17 2014

Amid the flurry of hydrogen announcements from Toyota and Honda last night, Volkwagen has something to add: a new hydrogen fuel cell concept vehicle. This will be the first VW hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in many years – remember the Tiguan Hy-Motion back in 2008? – and it comes as a bit of a surprise. First written up by the German publication Wirtschaft Woche, VW is going to have the prototype car (not pictured) available at the ride and drive at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. We don't yet know what kind of vehicle will sport the hydrogen powertrain, but our money's on a Golf variant. We'll see soon enough when we get to Los Angeles. What's interesting is that there have been a number of not-so-mixed messages out of the VW executive ranks when it comes to hydrogen vehicles. VW's Japanese president, Shigeru Shoji, said in September that, hydrogen fuel cells, "may fly within Japan, but not globally." Last year, VW's electrification head Rudolf Krebs said that "hydrogen mobility only makes sense if you use green energy." Also last year, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said it's basically impossible to build hydrogen vehicles at a "reasonable cost." Nonetheless, we're going to see a new VW H2 concept soon. Thoughts?
