Westfalia Syncro - World's Greatest Adventure Vehicle on 2040-cars
Provo, Utah, United States
4WD Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Weekender Pop Top Camper.
This incredible Swiss-Army Knife of vehicles comes with lots of extras and upgrades such as (5) Mercedes 16" alloy wheels, Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires in great shape, South African grill - upper and lower - with new headlight relay for brighter lighting, all new brake system with big Audi disc brake upgrade with vented rotors, dual calipers, new brake lines and master cylinder. It has front seat heaters with 2 settings, interior high-efficiency LED lighting in the front cabin floor and rear cabin ceiling lighting, new clutch, flywheel and pressure plate, new fuel lines and more. And the all important drive shaft leading to the front wheels was just completely rebuilt. It also has a rear locking differential. The interior is complete, very clean and roomy (freshly cleaned and sanitized upholstery), the outside looks great with shiny paint and a durable carbon fiber treatment to the lower section and bumpers. There is also the rear spare tire rack upgrade to the back of the vehicle as well as a ladder to get to the roof and the racks. There are feet for roof racks already installed. It looks awesome, rugged and screams "take me on an adventure!" It has upgraded hydraulic arms that lift the pop top roof automatically so you don't have to lift the heavy roof to open it. There is an 8 speaker CD stereo with USB input and charging. The windows are tinted all the way around keeping it cool and providing greater privacy (legal tint up front). There is heavy duty, easy-clean flooring installed throughout. The interior is free from rips, tears, stains and shows very little wear. It also comes with separate rear heat for the back compartment. This Westfalia Weekender version with the pop top can sleep up to 5 and has 6 seats with seat belts with one removable seat. Normal campers only seat 4 and sleep 4 max. There are full curtains - even for the front window. There is a pull up table, the front seats rotate around and you can stand up inside when the top is up and the upper bed folded back. And much much more. There is a large 40 quart refrigerator that fits nicely behind passenger seat, but can be moved anywhere. It plugs into 110V in your house and in the auxiliary plugs in the vehicle. It can be packed and pre-cooled in the house and brought out to the vehicle. There is a single burner clean-burning Butane stove that can be used inside like the built-in stove or taken outside when you prefer not to cook inside the vehicle. There is a large 7 gallon water tank with tap that can moved anywhere. These items give the functionality of a full camper with a lot more flexibility, space and are removable for day-to-day driving. PLEASE NOTE: the stove, water tank and refrigerator ONLY come with the "Buy it Now" price. The 2.1 liter water-boxer motor has recently had new head gaskets, water pump and various seals replaced. It has a high-end dual carburetor system that replaces the original fuel injection system. This gives a great amount of additional power and very good response. It pulls and climbs hills much better than the stock system and it is very efficient on fuel. It just took a 1700 mile journey and got great mileage averaging about 70 miles per hour and rarely had to shift down over hills. This vehicle does NOT have power windows, power locks or cruise control. It also does NOT have air conditioning. This vehicle is simplified for easy maintenance and off-highway adventure. It started as a full camper, but had a complete Weekender interior installed in it's place. Things that you might want to fix as you enjoy the vehicle: Although it has a clean title and Carfax it has been repainted and is not a great paint job. The paint was originally silver. The back door has been replaced. Although the dual carb system works great the original fuel injection is gone. The original wiring harness is still there and appears intact if the system were to be brought back to stock or replaced with a Subaru motor. The temp gauge works, but appears to read high and drive high. One CV joint is going bad. The speed-odometer and odometer recently do not work as it is in line with the Carfax mileage. There is some typical seam corrosion. A small area of corrosion on the drivers front door step have been completely fixed and the balance looks solid. The interior heat adjustment cable needs to be fixed as it is stuck in one spot. The drivers doors is a little tight to close. There is some metal distortion where the rear spare tire is attached from being over extended when opened. The emergency brake needs adjustment. The end of the exterior slider handle is broken off although fully functional. No water or oil leaks, but does have a small amount of seepage on the engine. The items above do make this vehicle a little rough around the edges and the reason it is not selling for $45,000 - $75,000. Feel free to come or send someone to inspect it. It is sold as is. Parts are cheap and readily available for these. See syncro.org, gowesty.com, thesamba.com, vanagain.com and another couple dozen others ready with forums, technical help and inexpensive parts. This wonderful vehicle drives tight, solid and goes straight down the road. It is solid over bumps, stops on a dime, quiet in the wind and gives you confidence when driving on or off road. It is always the talk of the campground - and the supermarket parking lot - and is awaiting its next adventure. The future value and the fun is very bright for this vehicle Feel free to call or text: 801-787-7474 Generic Vanagon Syncro Information: Only 1500 of these ever made it to the United States. VW previews huge screens, gesture control with Golf R Touch Concept at CES
Tue, Jan 6 2015Volkswagen is showing off the future of infotainment and connected driving at CES 2015 with a fleet of concepts that highlight its latest technology. According to its displays, the coming years might mean gesture-based vehicle controls and electric cars that drive themselves to find their own charging locations. VW's biggest debut at CES is its next-gen infotainment system, dubbed MIB II. The setup supports a wide array of smartphone integration standards, including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, to make sure that practically every smartphone user can pair the device's interface with the vehicle. Beyond just keeping occupants entertained, MIB II offers a system called Regular Routes that detects traffic along the driver's regular commute to work and suggests alternatives. The Parking Guide also helps find parking spots that are likely open. If MIB II represents the near future of VW infotainment, then the technology on the Golf R Touch Concept is the next step from there. It takes the brand's hot hatch and adds support for gesture controls inside, plus a trio of massive infotainment screens. This R features a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, an 8-inch screen below it for things like the climate control and switching media and a customizable 12.3-inch display that digitizes the instrument panel. A camera in front of the central display waits for the driver's hands to make specific movements that activate various vehicle functions. Despite all of the potentially distracting screens, VW says the system offers control without requiring a look away from the road. VW hopes the technology reduces driver distraction and creates a closer relationship with the car. Another of the German automaker's big tech showcases is an e-Golf that demonstrates the potential future of both electric and semi-autonomous driving. This version can be charged inductively, rather than through a traditional power cord, and the exterior lights show when the vehicle is fully recharged. It's also equipped with the e-Station Guide that helps drivers find a charging location and tells them about the payment options there. This e-Golf's other major innovation is VW's Trained Parking system. A camera at the front scans the route to a parking space, and if the driver returns later, then the process can be done semi-automatically.
Auction for first US VW e-Golf raises $41,400 for Global Green charity
Thu, Nov 6 2014Would having Jay Leno on hand have changed the outcome? That's what executives at Volkswagen might be asking after the German automaker auctioned off the company's first electric car in the US for around $6,000 over MSRP. VW auctioned off the first Volkswagen e-Golf in the US to raise money for the environmental non-profit Global Green USA. Bruce Oberg, an EV enthusiast and previous VW owner, proudly cut a $41,400 check for the car, which has a 116 miles per gallon-equivalent rating and is said to be able to go about 80 miles on a single charge. At your local dealer (depending on where you live), the e-Golf starts at $35,445. Sales start later this month in 11 states: California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, Oregon, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Washington, DC. The $6,000 premium for first-dib rights for the e-Golf is nice, but it doesn't compare to what BMW worked out this summer. In August, the first i8 plug-in hybrid in the US was auctioned off at California's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for $825,000 (to an unidentified buyer). That's about six times the car's sticker price, but this special edition came with Louis Vuitton luggage and was presented by noted car buff Leno. VW's press release below. VOLKSWAGEN E-GOLF RAISES MONEY TO BENEFIT GLOBAL GREEN USA AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CHARITY AUCTION Nov 4, 2014 Winning bidder claims first VW electric vehicle as the car begins to ship to select U.S. dealerships Herndon, VA (November 4, 2014) – Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced that the auction of the first 2015 all-electric Volkswagen e-Golf has raised $41,400, with proceeds benefitting the national environmental non-profit Global Green USA and its efforts to advance smart solutions to climate change. The winner of the auction, which ran from October 8–29 on CharityBuzz.com, became the first U.S. driver to own Volkswagen's all-new, fully-electric vehicle. "Volkswagen's commitment to e-mobility and sustainability runs deep. We could not be more proud that the e-Golf has helped raise money to benefit the efforts of Global Green USA, an organization that shares in our dedication to the environment," said Michael Horn, president and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
Volkswagen names new chief designer for Bentley
Thu, Jun 4 2015The Volkswagen Group has named one of its own to head up the design department at its Bentley division. The role now falls to Stefan Sielaff, who has been with the group (off and on) since 1990. Sielaff is principally an interior designer, but has been tasked with setting up numerous overall design offices for Volkswagen and Audi over the years. In his new capacity he'll be reporting to the group's chief engineer Rolf Frech (and oddly not to Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer), but at the same time, Sielaff will retain his role as head of interior design for the entire VW group, reporting to its chief designer Walter de Silva. Sielaff replaces Luc Donckerwolke, who has headed up Bentley design since 2012 and is leaving the company. We'll be on the lookout to see where Donckerwolke lands next. Crewe/Wolfsburg, 04 June 2015 Stefan Sielaff to head design at the Bentley brand • Sielaff also responsible for Group Interior Design Strategy Stefan Sielaff (53), currently Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, will assume responsibility for design at the Bentley brand effective July 1, 2015 in addition to his present post as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy. As Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff succeeds Luc Donckerwolke (49), who held this function since 2012. Stefan Sielaff joined the Volkswagen Group in 1990, beginning his career in the interior design department at Audi. From 1995 the design graduate was entrusted with setting up the Group's Design Center Europe in Spain. In 1997 he was placed in charge of the Design Studio in Munich and was appointed Head of Audi Interior Design in the same year. In 2003 Sielaff moved to DaimlerChrysler as Design Director of the Interior Competence Center, returning to the Volkswagen Group in 2006 to become Head of Audi Design before being appointed Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam und Head of Group Interior Design Strategy in 2012. In his new function as Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff reports to Rolf Frech, Board Member for Engineering. In his function as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy he continues to report to Walter de Silva, Head of Group Design. Luc Donckerwolke has decided to leave the company. De Silva said: "Luc Donckerwolke has played a key role in the design of various Group brands. We would like to thank him for his work."
