Here is your chance to grab an unusual and STUNNING Westfalia that will set you apart from the standard Westfalia's- a rare two year only Champagne Edition Deluxe model CE II with an Automatic Transmission and dealer installed under the dash AC!

An extensive exterior, interior and mechanical restoration with painstaking attention to detail to return this bus to its factory glory was performed! Rebuild time took 9 months with no expense spared.

Bus was very solid with minimal rust rot. I have about 350 before and after pictures- just send your email address for the photo links.

The entire bus was disassembled for paint, i.e. the entire interior (minus stove cabinet), pop top, luggage rack, windows, trim, etc down to a rolling shell. Front doors, slider, rear hatch, slider covers, removed for proper preparation, primer and paint.

Body prepared using polyurethane primer, block sand, poly prime, sand, repeat, etc. Minor rust areas properly repaired using a combination of repair panels, fiberglass and POR 15 rust encapsulating coating. Then finished with the factory two year only sales campaign of Pastel White over Agate Brown. Paint was allowed to cure and then was color sanded and buffed to a smooth, deep shine you now see. Look and you see alot of reflections in the deep shine, even my ugly mug!

All new weather stripping, scrapers, felts and seals installed using only GERMAN made products from West Coast Metric (WCM). All latches and mechanisms removed, cleaned, lubed and working just like new. Stainless steel fasteners used throughout. Both original factory bumpers straightened and triple chromed with new impact strips. The inner side is coated with an expensive Wurth undercoating to further protect and beautify. These are not cheap, after market flimsy bumpers that rust before you install but the original real deal triple chromed. This cost was over $1100 alone.

New front door handles along with original slider chrome door handle all shine nicely. New chrome VW emblem from WCM too.

New turn signal lenses/bases, side markers/bases, Stainless steel mirrors (not cheap chrome), windshield glass, washer nozzles, wiper blades and antenna (WCM). New Factory Hella brand headlight bezels finish off the nose.

Deluxe Berlin interior- stove, sink, new faucet and water pump installed (sourced from the original supplier to Westfalia Werks) refrigerator, control panel with battery charger timer, ac or dc current switch, battery condition gauge, ac outlets and factory converter. Also has the Deluxe options of the exterior plug and city water hook up and exterior propane tank.

All new upholstery through out! Front seats, rear bed cushions, side arm rest, rear cushion all have NEW FOAM and UPHOLSTERY using correct plaid and vinyl. No one has the Brown plaid in stock; I procured from a source in UK at a cost of over $1200 alone just for the plaid material. Did you get that? Over $1200 for JUST THE PLAID ALONE. Then tack on foam, vinyl and labor for EVERY seat/cushion/arm rest in this camper.

New floor mat, top of pedestal rubber mats, kick panels from WCM and new side of pedestal carpet that we professionally make. Original brown door panels look very nice and are uncut! New TMI door panels on the slider and rear hatch. New coat hooks, visors, even the locking knob and collar from WCM.  Brand new safety fire extinguisher and main carpet too.

New 3 window pop top canvas and seals. Fiberglass top and luggage rack refinished with new paint, seals and stickers.

The original laminate on the cabinets looks stunning- almost factory fresh with minimal chipping or delaminating. Go ahead, try to find another one in such god shape.

Included but not pictured is the front dash table and rear hatch mosquito screen.

Brand new (as in zero miles) 8 ply load range D tires mounted on refinished rims. New valve stems, mounted and balanced.  Correct tires for this camper, NOT passenger tires. Topped off with original hubcaps that received a good cleaning and buffing so they shine shine shine.

Original FI set up on the 2000cc engine coupled to the rare option of an Automatic transmission. Oil and filter change, spark plugs, tune up, valve adjustment, chassis checked front to back.

AC system complete minus compressor. System looks in very good condition, I kept it installed and intact for the next owner to do as they please.

All new fuel hose, clamps, injector o rings, push rod tube o rings, vacuum lines, engine foam seal, valve cover gaskets, heater tubes. Will receive a new muffler once I determine who is buying. Ie delete cat or not.

Engine checks out good with compression at factory specifications on all four cylinders.

Also new-quality brand brake drums, wheel cylinders, brake shoes. rear shocks. New rotors, brake pads, front shocks and four balljoints and alignment. New CV boots, bolts, cv's serviced. Front beam lubed.

New engine battery and coach/house battery. All electrical checked out, grounds sanded, wires fixed,  even has new bulbs and fuses. Who does that? We do!

Propane tank rebuilt- new paint, supply valve, regulator, 10% valve, supply rubber line to stove and new stainless steel mounting bolts. Did you see the detail?

Buyer gets reproduction manuals included with sale!

Be educated on how much quality work like this costs; especially on a next to impossible to find rare bus as this. This isn't a ja reality show where it only takes an hour to build. This took months of sourcing original parts, no longer available parts, new parts, rebuilt parts, fixing every single friggen component back to stock, etc. Alot of labor, and alot of money. Ask questions where you have concerns, everyone has a different interpretation, expectation, style, taste. To be transparent, I've offered the availability of over 350 before, during and after pictures-ask for them! No warranties expressed, implied, or imagined. Vintage vehicles such as this all have their quirks, personalities, blems and defects.

Having said all that, this is one stunning bus ready to use, drive and camp in, so bid with confidence!

Clean title, ready for new owner to show with pride and use! Overseas buyers welcomed, please ask any and all questions. Shipping assistance available for USA and abroad.

Volkswagen hatches hotter GTI in Geneva

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The all-new seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't even launched here in the United States, but over in Geneva, we're already getting our first glimpse at the hotter GTI hatchback. The fancy new Mk VII Golf is already off to a healthy start with positive reviews in Europe, and we have no doubt that this next GTI will work hard to regain its title as king of the hot hatches.
The big news for this generation of GTI is that for the first time ever, Volkswagen is actually offering two different power grades for the model, both relying on the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. Standard cars pack 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but an optional performance pack ups the horsepower number to 230. Hitting 60 miles per hour takes 6.5 seconds (6.4 with the performance pack) and top speed is quoted at 153 mph (or 155 with the performance kit). Volkswagen will continue to offer the GTI with both six-speed manual and dual-clutch transmissions.
On the visual front, the sub-3,000-pound GTI adds the usual bit of hot hatch aggression over the standard Golf, and those changes carry over to the interior with a flat-bottomed wheel and, of course, plaid seats. She's certainly a looker, and while some of us do find the new Golf's design to be a bit staid and evolutionary, the enhancements for the GTI indeed tug on our enthusiast heart strings.

Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project

Tue, Jan 7 2014

It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party. Volkswagen could build plug-in hybrids in China

Sun, Apr 6 2014

When you're Europe's largest automaker and your largest global market happens to be the one most notorious for its pollution (China), some solutions just present themselves. Volkswagen may be heeding that call. During the upcoming Beijing Motor Show, the company is expected to announce plans to produce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in China, Reuters says, citing sources within the company. Few details have emerged, though the plug-ins will likely be produced at VW's Foshan factory in South China, which currently makes the Golf and Audi A3 and has plans to eventually make 600,000 vehicles annually. News has been percolating for a while, as Oliver Schmidt, general manager engineering and environmental office for Volkswagen Group of America, said last March that the company was planning at least two plug-in hybrid lines under the VW badge (and another three with its Audi and Porsche affiliates), including possibly a Touareg and Jetta PHEV. VW said late last month that it was looking to speed up development of "particularly eco-friendly models" made by Shanghai Volkswagen as well as developing a "new, very eco-friendly vehicle" with First Automotive Works (FAW). Earlier this year, VW unveiled its Golf GTE plug-in hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show. That model has a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to provide 201 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The car can travel as many as 81 miles on electric power alone.
