Vw Syncro Project - 3 Vans Included on 2040-cars

Year:1986 Mileage:189809
Location:

Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania, United States

SYNCRO PROJECT - I thought I could handle it... I was wrong.

Too much rust.

I bought a rust free van, and I'm unloading these.

Here is what's included:

1986 Syncro - non locker - most of interior removed, except for front seats and rear bench (no carpet etc.) - runs and drives GREAT - VC works great - AC unit is falling from roof - don't know if it works

1987 Syncro - SUNROOF works awesome - locking trans removed (included) - no engine - weekender interior - front diff and suspension all there (never driven - not sure of condition)

1991 (I think) red donor van - body only - totally stripped - for rust repair - see pics

2 sets of front doors with power windows & locks

Extra sliding door

Extra rear window

Boxes of parts and stuff

I'm sure there is more that I'm forgetting - I will update the ad if I remember anything...

The 86 is very solid and was going to be my foundation, requiring mostly body work to be road worthy.  will need other minor work to get on the road - I got most of the electrical bugs worked out, but not all.

The 87 (sunroof) is extremely rusty, but also very rare - I had a guy from a body shop out to look at it and he said it is certainly repairable, but it would be very expensive. My intent was to transplant the roof and interior into the running van. It has the "weekender" interior (which I think is really 'multivan') but no front seats - but that's ok because the front seats in the '86 are pretty decent.

I have spoken to several people who say that a Syncro-Sunroof is the rarest and should not be cut up. If it does not sell in this auction, and I am forced to sell everything individually, it is not likely that I will sell it. I will transplant the roof and interior to my other van as I originally intended.

There is enough here to build a nice Syncro with a sunroof and a rear locking diff.

THE MERCEDES WHEELS WITH NEW TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE - they will be replaced with stock 14" vanagon alloys - I have 5 - 4 of which have good tires.

YOU WILL NEED TO TOW ALL 3 VANS AWAY - the one that runs is not inspected.

I have the titles for all 3 vans

PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO BUY PARTS. if nobody takes the whole lot, I intend to break up the sale and sell things individually. I am not in a hurry.

Do not bother with "lowball" offers - I am starting the auction at the price I would accept for everything - no less.

No warranties - obviously.

No shipping.

No returns.

I would prefer cash or a cashier's check - I would even accept a balance transfer and paypal I guess. No transfer of goods will occur until checks clear or transferred funds are confirmed and available for withdrawal.

I will work with the buyer while they arrange a way to pick this up, to a point. I will not wait indefinitely. If I feel that the winning bidder is taking too long to pick up, I will terminate the contract and re-list the vans.

I have lots and lots of pictures available upon request, and will try to set up a photobucket and add the links to this ad.

10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions

Thu, Aug 27 2015

Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.

VW could look outside its own ranks for next CEO

Fri, Feb 27 2015

Companies have two options when coming up with succession plans – hire within, or go outside its ranks. Either choice comes with advantages and disadvantages, to be sure. Hiring within means generally getting someone familiar with the company and its culture and traditions, while going outside is ideal if you're looking to shake things up and bring in fresh ideas. It's unclear which avenue the Volkswagen Group will go down when it comes time to replace its head man, Herr Professor Doctor Doctor Herr Martin Winterkorn, but he isn't ruling out a trip outside of Wolfsburg. Winterkorn has already given the reins of the VW brand to former BMW board member Herbert Diess, while Andreas Renschler, a former Daimler board member, is heading up VW's truck group. Now, Winterkorn has made some statements to a German weekly that indicate the most important thing about his successor isn't necessarily his (or her, though no women appear to be on the short-list) previous employer, Motoring.com.au is reporting, so much as his qualities as a leader and an engineering background. "A Volkswagen boss has to have a big affinity to our products. He needs to be close to customers and he needs to have a relationship with dealers," Winterkorn told Stern. "Like always, it depends on the personality and it also helps if the candidate is an engineer." Motoring throws out a couple of potential candidates from within, including Porsche boss Mathias Muller, Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler and engineering guru Ulrich Hackenberg, in addition to both Diess and Renschler. And while each candidate has a lot of potential, the only thing that's guaranteed right now is what Winterkorn has already said: "The decision about who will succeed me is not an easy one for the supervisory board."

Recharge Wrap-up: VW CEO mulls battery factory, voters approve $201B in transportation funding

Mon, Nov 21 2016

Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller says that it would "make sense" for the automaker to begin producing its own batteries. As the company moves toward electrification, Muller says it would be a smart move to build a battery factory. "If more than a quarter of our cars are to be electronic vehicles in the foreseeable future then we are going to need approximately 3 million batteries a year," he says. Volkswagen has agreed to cut 30,000 jobs in its restructuring, while committing to creating 9,000 jobs in Germany through battery manufacturing and mobility services. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Election results show a desire for transportation funding. Earlier this month, voters in 22 states approved ballot measures adding up to $201 billion in funding for transportation projects, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. California passed 15 transportation measures, including one in Los Angeles worth $120 billion for roads, bridges, and transit. The state of Washington secured $54 billion for light rail and buses. Atlanta approved about $4 billion for road and transit projects. Illinois and New Jersey passed measures to prevent the diversion of transportation user fee revenue to other industries. A Delaware federal judge ordered the DOE to give the documents – which concern a presentation by Fisker to the DOE in which it falsely claimed to meet milestones set forth in a government loan – to lawyers in a case in which investors claim Fisker lied to them about financial troubles. While the DOE has given over documents already, they were incomplete and heavily redacted. "I understand that such disclosures may have a negative impact on future DOE analyses," says US District Judge Sue Robinson. "but conclude nonetheless that under the circumstances at bar – the public money at stake, the Congressional hearings, and the fact that Fisker Automotive is now a defunct company – the balance of interests favors plaintiffs."
