Vw Bus/van Kombi - Great Condition Bay Window Hardtop 1974 on 2040-cars
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
1974 Volkswagen Bus Hardtop Up for auction is our 1974 Volswagen Bus Here is what I know about it... I am the 3rd owner of this Bus, it was originally purchased in California in 1974 and was only occasionally driven. Around 1994 it was purchased by an older gentlemen in California who used it for about 18 years on the weekends for the swap meets. It sat in a garage for a couple years and became a home for mice and various other critters. I purchased it from the second owner and breathed life back into it. Here's what it has and has recently been done...
I had the bus in a local shop here for about 3 weeks and had the motor pulled and gone through to get it running good. Had everything I listed above replaced and/or repaired. All the electrical in the bus works, with he exception of the horn. It runs strong, shifts smooth, and brakes good. This bus has the ORIGINAL 40 year old German paint job which I believe is called Mango and in is in great shape. The body is straight but does have a few small dings here and there with a few touch ups also. The paint is solid and is right on the verge of a great patina if your in to that look. I was planning on painting it but opted to leave the original 40 year old German paint on it. When I found this bus, the interior was in bad shape, the bus had been taken over by mice which destroyed the seats, headliner, and a few panels. I replaced the damaged panels with high quality ABS plastic panels and recovered the entire back area with a black burlap. I do have the original panels which I will include if you want them. Seats were stripped and the front covered in new foam and grey cloth seat covers. Seats need to be reupholstered in OEM material though if you are planning to go for all original restoration. This bus has almost zero rust, there is a small rust spot starting on the battery tray, and under the driver floor boards, but both are small. All glass and rubber is original. We drive this bus every weekend and have a great time. If you are serious about this bus, I will help you schedule a third party inspection if you would like. I have bought and sold several VW's on eBay and have 100% feedback. If you would like any specific pictures that I have not posted, just message me with a text or email and I will be happy to send them to you. Bus has clear Nevada title, current registration, and insurance. Thanks for looking and please feel free to contact me with any questions. Serious bidders only. Please don't bid if you don't intend to purchase. It takes time and money to do this. Bus is sold as is with no warranty. I will work with you to get the Bus picked up or shipped, and will include all original parts that I have. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! Travis |

Recharge Wrap-up: meet the '66 ZelectricBug, DOE announces home-scale H2 refueling competition
Thu, Oct 30 2014The US Department of Energy has launched the $1 million H2 Refuel H-Prize competition to create small- to medium-scale hydrogen refueling systems. The systems could be home-scale systems that produce hydrogen using utilities at home for refueling, or medium-scale systems to supply locations such as retail centers, apartment complexes or small fleets. The DOE sees hydrogen fueling infrastructure as the biggest obstacle to fuel-cell vehicle adoption and putting the production and refueling in the hands of the consumer could be a way around that obstacle. Read more at Energy.gov and at Green Car Congress. Hyundai has announced a new six-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motor for new hybrid models. The new configuration puts most of the hybrid powertrain components within the transmission, and the torque converter has been eliminated. The new engine clutch reduces drag with fewer clutch discs, and the mechanical oil pump has been replaced with an electric one. The result is fewer energy losses, improved efficiency and greater mileage. Read more at Hybrid Cars in Reuters or in the press release from Hyundai below. Zelectric Motors has completed its electric 1966 Volkswagen Beetle rebuild, and has put it up for sale. The '66 ZelectricBug, as it's called, is powered by a 50-kW electric motor and 20-kWh battery pack, and offers 120 pound-feet of torque. It has a range of 80 miles, and is capable of at least 100 mph. The stock transmission has been rebuilt. It also has some new goodies like high-performance sway bars, custom shocks, and LED lighting. The '66 ZelectricBug is priced at $45,000. Check it out in the video below and read more at Hybrid Cars. A startup called Alevo says it will build a billion-dollar factory in North Carolina to make longer-lasting lithium iron phosphate batteries. Alevo has purchased an old cigarette factory in Concord for $68.5 million, but it's unclear whether or not the company has secured the $1 billion investment to begin producing batteries. The company plans to create 2,500 to 6,000 jobs and produce several gigawatts worth of batteries per year, which is a tall order for a relatively unknown company. Read more at Gigaom, or in Alevo's press release below. Tesla owners in Shanghai will be exempt from the city's $12,000 registration fee. About 400 people have already received the free license plates in Shanghai, where the government wants to encourage alternative fuel vehicles.
VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms
Tue, 02 Jul 2013Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
Mercedes, Nissan and VW slammed by China's CCTV
Tue, Mar 17 2015Several automakers in China, including joint ventures with Nissan, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, are in hot water because their dealers are allegedly overcharging customers for repairs. China Central Television, the country's state broadcaster, leveled the claims during its annual Consumer Day expose. CCTV runs these reports each year on March 15 and often takes aim at foreign companies operating within China. This year the focus fell on automakers, according to the Financial Times, and no domestic car companies were targeted. The network also accused dealers of overselling parts, and it took aim at Jaguar Land Rover specifically for problems surrounding transmission repairs, according to Reuters. The yearly stories are often criticized for focusing on outside businesses. "It panders to a certain type of nationalism as it tends to target foreign companies and rarely touches large state groups or monopolies," Qiao Mu, a journalism professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, said to the Financial Times. Foreign automakers seem to face tighter scrutiny when doing business in China than their domestic counterparts, in general. The government there investigated several luxury brands, including Audi and BMW, last year for how they supplied spare parts and whether the components were overpriced. Some incurred fines, and Lexus decided to lower its prices. Volkswagen also experienced protests when owners felt the company wasn't handling a recall properly. The CCTV report also comes as many auto dealers in China are feeling a pinch due to high mandated sales targets from automakers. The situation was so dire in early 2015 several brands cut back sales targets and in some cases even paid the sellers to offset poor profits.
