Palm Desert, California, United States
1955 Standard KOMBI Model Barn door, bus that in my opinion is in excellent show quality museum condition . The body is extremely nice, was taken to bare metal when the restoration began ,then resprayed with volkswagen colors of the 50's era including black for the top and a sealing wax red "like " color below the belt line. The floors both front and rear are very straight dry and solid... This gem has been completed as shown in the pictures using the best parts available, all of them german, nos or reconditioned original to make this a show winner including but not limited to: * Original pressed bumpers * all new rubber seals all around including windshields , doors ,side windows, engine bay...all rubber new! * Ambulance fans in working condition * 36hp engine * Bubble taillights german hella original * Original large logo SEKURIT glass * European spec symmetrically fluted Barndoor headlights * Original reflectors * Behr Roof Scoop * 6 long spoon pop-out window latches * Early brake light decklid * Crank-start apron * Outward engine intake vents * Seamed doglegs * period correct black california plates ( stay with carr if car is sold within california ) * Correct 6 volt electric system including new 6v battery , head light, tail lights, interior lights, semaphors and windshied wipers, original Bakelite dome lights. The bus got a very good Mechanicall gone thru during the restoration process, including electrical , rebuilt brakes, rebuilt 36hp motor, detailed front beam, 5 new bias ply tires on the original 16 inch wheels and a brand new spare tire. the restoration process was completed over a year ago so the bus has very low miles on it. Interior is very clean and looks and feels factory brand new since the bus has been driven less than 200 miles since restoration was completed. all 3 rows of seats are done in original style "deluxe" microbus upholstery including the 6 leg middle in excellent condition, original deluxe style interior panels, the headliner is very nice and clean made of the correct fabric corresponding to the 50's era. for the flooring there is the front rubber floor mat and we have a bus rubber floor mat for the cargo/rear passenger area ,other surfaces of the bus have german square waved carpet including rear luggage compartment. This Bus is nice and clean on the underside as the topside, over and under, inside and out crash box tranny, proper 36hp engine with crank start, and many more NOS parts. All of this Kombi interior has been done correctly following the volkswagen "deluxe" microbus theme of the 1950's

Audi CEO says brand's EVs are almost as profitable as its other cars
Mon, Oct 4 2021After, oh, a hundred years or so of building vehicles primarily powered by internal combustion engines, automakers around the world have been and still are pumping billions of dollars into the development of electric vehicle technology. Everything from platforms and batteries to motors and the software to control it all requires untold hours of development, and that takes time and money. Fortunately, it's not going to take long for that massive investment to start paying off, at least according to Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, who told Reuters in an interview that "The point where we earn as much money with electric cars as with combustion engine cars is now, or ... next year, 2023. They are very even now, the prices." As a brand, Audi contributed more than a quarter of overall profit for the massive Volkswagen Group, which has such powerhouse brands as Volkswagen and Porsche among others. Under the Audi umbrella are Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati, and it seems those high-end branches aren't going anywhere, at least for now. "These brands ... are very valuable very profitable brands, where we can even expand the synergy level in the future," Duesmann said in the interview. "There are no plans whatsoever to get rid of them." Despite the overall profitability of the brand, the ongoing global chip crisis is causing headaches. "We had a very strong first half in 2021. We do expect a much weaker second half," said Duesmann, who added, "We really have trouble." In fact, so serious is the trouble that the brand is forced into "a day-to-day troubleshooting process" to limit the chip-shortage damage. The good news for the automaker is that Audi has been able to boost its profit margin from 8% prior to the pandemic in 2019 to 10.7% in the first half of 2021. The bad news is that various chip shortages aren't expected to get a whole lot better over the rest of the year. Related video:
Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes gets F1 efficiency, EV charging in Vermont, VW e-Golf to use Bosch
Mon, Jul 14 2014Efficiency equals performance, especially in the case of Formula 1 racing. The Mercedes AMC Petronas team points to several key efficiency technologies it uses to get the most out of its cars. And if their utter dominance so far this season is testament to this relationship, perhaps we should pay attention. Mercedes highlights hybrid tech, turbocharging, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, tribology (both in making internal components and lubricants more slippery) and simulation as crucial to getting around the track faster than anyone else. These just happen to be some of the same things that make the cars we drive on public roads more fuel-efficient. Learn more in the press release below. It's a good read. Brammo, maker of sweet electric motorcycles, is teaming up with TEAM Industries to make drivetrains for electric vehicles. TEAM, which specializes in drivetrain technology, will also become an investor in Brammo as part of the partnership. "The electric vehicle market is a growth market," says TEAM CEO and President David Ricke, "and TEAM and Brammo will be providing a wide range of solutions for OEM manufacturers." Read more over at EV World. Vermont celebrated the installation of a new EV charging station as part of a Green Energy Corridor between Boston and Montreal. When finished, drivers will be able to make the whole trip in an EV with access to charging along the way. For $5, customers can charge their vehicle in about 30 minutes at the Red Hen Baking Company in Middlesex. There are currently only about 700 EVs on the road in Vermont. The state has a goal to get 90 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, and getting more EVs on the road is crucial to that mission. Vermont hopes that expanding the charging infrastructure will convince more people to go electric. Read more at Vermont Public Radio's website. For it's new e-Golf, Volkswagen will use Bosch chargers for home installation and ChargePoint stations at its dealerships. Bosch will have various 240-volt options for the home, and will also provide installation. e-Golf customers will also get a free ChargePoint membership, and will have access to the company's network of charging stations worldwide. The 2015 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this year. Read more in the press release below. Europeans get first crack at new Golf Variant wagon
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Just last week, when we brought you news of a new Volkswagen Golf variant out and testing in Europe, we had no idea we were being so literal with out description. For it seems that VW has every intention of calling its new Golf wagon, making its Geneva debut, the "Golf Variant."
Odd/interesting sobriquets taken as read then, there's a lot to like about this new small wagon from VW. The Variant will shed some 232 pounds in this generation, and will come to market with two efficient TDI engines. Volkswagen isn't giving us displacement figures for either yet, but we're told the diesels will come with outputs of 110 and 150 horsepower. The 110-hp TDI BlueMotion Varient will be good for a whopping 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle, when mated to the six-speed manual transmission.
The German automaker has brought along an all-wheel-drive 4Motion version of the Gold Variant to bow in Geneva, as well, and a natural gas-burning TGI BlueMotion is said to be "in the pipeline."
