1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Hardtop 1.6L NA Diesel w/ AC! Just in time for Christmas! Starting at a "give-away" bidding price! NO RESERVE! You are about to bid on a daily driver Vanagon that I have care for very well. The only reason you're seeing it on eBay is because I just moved to CA and I need a 4WD vehicle. I have spent thousands to make this a dependable, functional, and comfortable camper van. The vehicle has 208,000 miles but converted to a rebuilt diesel engine that only has 78,000 miles (hence the reason for listing at 78k mi). The engine is a rebuilt 1.6 liter naturally aspirated diesel with a manual glow. The engine has seen regular oil changes, new filters, fluid changes, etc per specs. It has a rebuilt injection pump installed 10/2012. This van runs at 25-30 MPG, 65 MPH on the highway with the AC running. The tranny is super solid, never a problem, new fluid 11/2013. This vehicle is mechanically sound with receipts of all work. New tires 05/2012 (see pics of tread). New alternator, new power steering pump, new timing belt, new coolant hoses, new AC hoses, new PS hoses, etc. etc. READY TO DRIVE HOME. Heavy duty custom hitch. All of the interior panels are re-fabricated with noise reducers. Air conditioning blows COLD. It is the original AC system that has been resealed and repainted black. All rubber floors for easier cleaning and custom curtains for camping. This van is sold with yakima bars if you wish to keep them (see photos). It also comes with some extra parts. Also under the fold down seat are the ORIGINAL jack and tools to change the spare tire. This car is absolutely RUST FREE. Lived most its life in AZ. However, as with most Vanagons, there are some imperfections. The paint gloss on the roof is peeling (not the paint, just the gloss) due to sun damage. The front passenger seat has a small rubber cement stain. Also, as seen in the photos, there is a small dent in the rear drivers side corner that can be easily fixed. The RPMs do not read as it requires a special connector on the alternator that I never needed. DO NOT BE SHY, ASK QUESTIONS. Important information: I will be available to show this van in Visalia, CA . If you wish to come see and test drive the van, please contact me to set up a day and time. Conditions of Sale: The highest bidder will pay an initial $500 via paypal within the first 24 hours of winning without exceptions! If the highest bidder does not provide an initial payment within 24 hours the vehicle will be sold to the next highest bidder. After the initial deposit the buyer will pay in full upon pickup. The winner will pick up the vehicle ON or BEFORE 12/08/2013. |

Vahland leaving VW over dispute on how to run NA region
Wed, Oct 14 2015On November 1, Winfried Vahland was supposed to take over Volkswagen Group's recently created North American region that combines Canada, the US, and Mexico. But the longtime exec has instead decided to leave the automaker after a dispute over how to manage the new combined region. Vahland is currently the boss at Skoda, and in a statement about his departure the Czech company said: "Differing views on the organization of the new Group region have led to this decision; this decision is expressly not related to current events on the issue of diesel engines." Vahland is leaving at his own request, the announcement says. Vahland was appointed to run to North American region during VW's massive corporate shakeup on September 25. The decision was part of the automaker's plan to put a greater emphasis on regions and brands, rather than on centralized authority. According to Automotive News Europe citing a report from Germany's Auto Bild, Vahland was passed over for the CEO job, with Matthias Muller taking that position. Amidst the changes, Michael Horn remained at the helm of Volkswagen Group of America, reporting to the new regional boss. Vahland joined the automaker in 1990 and started running VW's operations in China in 2005. He became boss at Skoda in 2010. "In the last 25 years, Prof. Vahland made a great contribution to the company. We respect his decision and thank him for his exceptional performance," Muller said in the departure announcement. Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland leaves Volkswagen Group 14.10.2015 Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland leaves Volkswagen Group Mlada Boleslav, 14 October 2015 – After 25 years of successful work in Volkswagen Group, most recently as Chairman of SKODA, Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland is leaving the company at his own request. Prof. Vahland will therefore not be taking up the position of overall responsibility for the North American Region (NAR). Differing views on the organisation of the new Group region have led to this decision; this decision is expressly not related to current events on the issue of diesel engines. Prof. Vahland began his work in Volkswagen Group in 1990. After holding several key positions at home and abroad, he took over Group responsibility as President and CEO of Volkswagen in China in 2005 and contributed significantly to the successful new direction of Volkswagen in China. He was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of SKODA in 2010.
New investor allows Suzuki to fend off VW
Tue, Aug 4 2015After years of legal wrangling, the long-soured partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki looks finally to be coming out of arbitration, according to Bloomberg. As a sign of the Japanese brand's improved fortunes, hedge fund Third Point LLC recently bought an undisclosed stake in the company. The investor reported seeing a major opportunity in the successful Maruti Suzuki business in India. As an investment, the only major problem that Third Point found with Suzuki was its legal battle with VW. "The company's greatest asset is its low-cost manufacturing process for vehicles for the emerging market consumer," the fund said in a letter, according to Bloomberg. Third Point reportedly also wants a seat on Suzuki's board, despite being a minority shareholder. The alliance between Suzuki and VW goes back to late 2009. In the deal, the Japanese brand was meant to get access to cutting-edge tech, and the German firm got a helping hand towards better establishing itself in India and Southeast Asia. Things didn't go as planned, though. Less than two years later, Suzuki's boss publicly derided the deal. Eventually, the allegations started going back and forth, and the two have been working out a way to untangle practically ever since. Among the biggest issue has been how to get back the 19.9 percent stake that VW purchased. According to Bloomberg, the arbitration is now technically over. With the divorce nearly final, the two sides are just waiting on a decision on how to split things up. Suzuki may even just buy VW's stake to get the shares back.
Trump reportedly says he wants to wipe German cars off the U.S. map
Thu, May 31 2018BERLIN/FRANKFURT — A report that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pursue German carmakers until there are no Mercedes-Benz rolling down New York's Fifth Avenue dented shares in the luxury car manufacturers on Thursday. An excerpt from German magazine Wirtschaftswoche's article, which cited several unnamed European and U.S. diplomats but did not include any direct quotes, could not be independently verified, while a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Berlin referred questions to Washington. The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether. Macron's administration in Paris declined to comment on the report. The Trump administration last week opened a so-called Section 232 trade investigation into vehicle imports, which could result in a 25 percent tariff on cars on the same "national security" grounds Washington used to impose metals duties in March. This could destroy exports by German carmakers, which control 90 percent of the U.S. premium market and are the biggest European Union exporters of cars to the United States. BMW owns Rolls-Royce, while Daimler has Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen controls Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Audi. Daimler, BMW and Audi declined comment. Porsche was not immediately available for comment. BMW shares were trading 0.5 percent lower at 0939 GMT, while Daimler and VW's shares were down 1 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, underperforming Germany's blue-chip DAX. Trump has railed against German carmakers before. And in early 2017, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said he would impose 35 percent tariffs on imported cars. At the time, the president called Germany a great car producer but said that the business relationship with the United States was an unfair one-way street. Germany's auto industry association VDA says its members exported 657,000 vehicles to North America last year, with total exports of vehicle components, cars, engines, as well as second-hand vehicles totaling 31.2 billion euros in 2016. Imports from the United States to Germany amounted to 7.4 billion euros, meaning a trade deficit of 23.8 billion euros the VDA's latest available figures show. However, German brands also have huge factories in the United States, where they built 804,000 cars last year, VDA said, providing jobs for U.S. workers. Berlin has reacted angrily to the U.S.
