I have owned this us for about a year. I bought it from a guy who had done the majority of the restoration, but he had to sell it because he had a baby on the way. I have always wanted a split window deluxe bus, so bought it to use as a regular driver and planned to slowly finish the interior while I used it. My tax bill this year was unexpectedly high, so sadly I am forced to give it up.

The previous owner did all the hard work removing any rust and replacing with new sheet metal. The floors are solid, as is the undercarriage, so really all that needs to be done to have a great daily driver is to clean up the interior with an interior kit or whatever you want to do to finish it up.  The motor is strong and I believe everything works as it should. I have only driven it locally since i bought it- trips to the beach, etc.  but when I brought it home a year ago, it was an couple of hour trip on the freeway.  It performed great.  It has a CA title with an assigned California identification number. The registration just expired this past month, but I will have it up to date before the end of the auction.

The good:
Strong motor- no leaks
Great looking, shiny paint with very few minor blemishes
Almost new Good Year brand tires ( including a spare tire)
Virtually no rust- very clean undercarriage.
All deluxe body trim is there
Jail bars are there
Cargo floor is newer, so no rust
Front floor looks like there was some small repair panels welded in. They used the appropriate panels, so it looks fine and is totally solid
Many new-looking seals on the pop out windows and windshield. Some of the glazing for the pop outs is looking a little old though.

The bad:
The speedometer cable recently broke. I will do my best to get it replaced before auction ends. Luckily it is a really simple fix on these cars.
There is a little sealant in the corner of the front windshields which indicates that it may have had a small leak at some point.  I have never driven it in the rain, but have never seen any leakage when washing the bus so I think it may not be an issue.
Although the paint looks great, in certain light you can see some waviness where some previous rust repair had taken place ( in rocker area) I couldn't really get it to show up in any pictures.
Seats have a couple of small wear holes. But they look fine and are very usable and firm

Please ask any questions as I may have forgotten things. Also I can take a picture if anything that needs more clarification. I will accept PayPal for a deposit, but not for balance ( unless you pay those fees). Car will need to be picked up, or you orchestrate shipping. Uship seems to be a good way to get an idea of shipping costs.

Recharge Wrap-Up: Tesla, CarCharging and the EPA

Sat, Aug 23 2014

Credit Suisse analysts are bullish on Tesla. The group gives the electric car company's stock an "outperform" rating with a target price of $325. For its continued success, Credit Suisse cites the vehicles' superior technology, in turn offering more torque, roominess and reliability. Says analyst Dan Galves said of Tesla's competition with ICEs, "If Tesla can get to cost-parity with Internal Combustion vehicles and still offer $1,400 to $2,500 per year fuel savings to the consumer, it won't be a fair fight." Read more at Yahoo Finance or at Business Insider. In other Tesla news, Tesla Model S owners will be able to unlock and start their car using an iPhone. The Tesla app is adding this functionality soon, perhaps with the update to iOS 8. It's not yet clear how this function will work, but it's one more innovative convenience feature that Model S owners can enjoy. That means drivers will have less to carry in their pockets or purses when they go for a drive. Read more at 9 to 5 Mac. CarCharging Group has remotely lowered the amperage on some of its residential users' Blink charging stations to 24 amps. This will slow down the charging time for affected customers with 6.6-kilowatt charging by about 15 percent. The company cited safety reasons for the move, with concerns about overheating. The amperage reduction is temporary, until CarCharging is able to provide replacement parts for the chargers. Some are concerned about the delayed action, as well as the fact that the reduction was handled without owner permission. Read more at Plugin Cars. Ford is halting test drives and sales of certain C-Max hybrid and Focus models due to a safety concern. Cars made during a single week this month at a Michigan factory may not have enough ball bearings in the steering gear assembly, which could lead to loss of control. None of the affected cars have been sold, Ford says, and about 50 units are currently at dealerships. Just over 600 will need to be recalled. Dealerships have been notified of the problem. Read more at Reuters and the The Detroit News. A new EPA report shows that urban air in the US is becoming less toxic since the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The report shows a 66-percent reduction in benzene, almost 60 percent reduction in mercury from man-made sources, 84 percent less lead and more.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver.
