This restoration is in excellent condition and includes a complete engine rebuild, bodywork/paint, and an custom interior cabinet rebuild. The restoration took 3 years. The van was designed so that it could be used for what it does best for another 20 years, while minimizing maintenance. No expense was spared. Only the best craftsmen were hired for the engine and body work. This bus would be ideal for someone wanting to take it on the road, or wanting a show vehicle. *** SUPER RARE factory continental full upper bed. I have heard of these but never seen one. This is a bed that sleeps two in the pop top area. Unheard of for early Westfalia's. *** I have receipts for well over $18,000 of parts alone going into this bus.

Engine - The engine has under 1000 miles on it and the rebuild was completed in 2011 by the best mechanic on the west coast. The 1973 engine was replaced with a completely rebuilt 1978 fuel injected, hydraulic valve engine to improve performance, drivability and reduce maintenance. The engine compartment was modified to accept the air intake assembly for the 1978 and a new ECU. The engine itself was completely overhauled, including splitting the case, with every piece being inspected, and replaced as needed. The heads were also replaced with quality set of heads. The mechanic also installed a new wiring harness and completed the electrical because we wanted to take advantage of his expertise and ensure compatibility with the new engine. 009 distributor, Bosh coil, header exhaust with newer new engine seal. The bus runs and drives perfect. Paint & Body - Super rare factory Neptune blue Westfalia. This van was completely disassembled and tore down to a shell as seen in the pictures. A high end body shop completed the body work over many months. This shop regularly does high-end restorations and only does quality work. They prepped the bus for the new engine by altering the engine compartment. After the engine was installed, they stripped the bus down to bare metal. All rust and repaired metal as needed. They painted the bus using the original paint codes for factory Neptune blue color. I have pictures documenting the complete restoration. Neptune blue is a very rare color on a Westfalia and normally found on Riviera's. All new blinker and tail light lenses. New head lights and trim rings. Sand blasted and painted rims. Arrow strait front and rear bumpers. Hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars went into the show quality body and paint job. All wheel wheels were stripped and repainted. The under carriage is clean and in excellent condition. *** New windshield and replaced all of the seals for it and the other windows with OEM German seals. The German seals are not cheap but superior in quality and fit and finish to the non OEM seals. Interior - The dashboard was repainted. What you don't see in the pictures is that Dynamat was strategically placed throughout the vehicle. I wasn't skimpy with it and you can tap along the walls and hear the difference. This greatly reduces road noise. The walls were insulated with Reflectix insulation. Then, the side and roof paneling was reconstructed using 1/8" Baltic Birch sheets. The headliner was sanded and stained as well. New carpet is installed and new custom seat covers were placed on the front seats. These were provided by Sew Fine out of Texas. All the cabinets were custom made using 3/4" Baltic Birch. The cabinets were then sanded and stained. Many hours went into the cabinets and headliner. Custom latches and hinges were used on the cabinets. All of the cushions were remade using new, high quality foam, and new material. New custom curtains. The interior door panels with burlap from reclaimed coffee bags, giving this bus a very unique look. This is a one of a kind interior. The colors picked though they contrast, look amazing and unlike any interior I have ever seen. I installed a custom oak floor using high end engineered flooring. I then trimmed the floor with custom trim. There are no screw or nail holes. The floor is done to a very high standard. The color palate, materials, different woods and textures make this interior truly a one of a kind work of art. Pop Top - Brand new 3 window canvas, all seals, polished luggage bars and tie downs. Completely repainted pop top both top and bottom sides to show quality. Super rare continental upper bed. Other - New battery, new correct Hancook truck rated tires, brakes, shocks, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, fuel sending unit. New high end Kenwood CD player with remote and a high end speaker custom mounted under the dash in the factory location. The cd player is mp3, i pod and i phone compatible. Custom electronic window washers were installed. All wiring was replaced with a wiring harness for a 78 VW bus to work properly with the fuel injection. All electrical works perfect. New hubcaps. Not your average Westfalia. This was a full 3 year restoration. Hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars were invested in this one of a kind build. This van was done to a high enough standard to take 1rst place in its class at any VW show. The van has the best of both worlds with the 2 liter hydraulic valve fuel injected motor, the much more usable and spacious weekender interior coupled with the ultra rare factory continental full upper bed makes this a one of a kind "greatest hits" VW bus. Super rare to find a Westfalia in Neptune blue. In my opinion one of the nicest colors on a bay window bus. The interior is hand crafted top to bottom. All cabinet's, Z bed and jump seat were custom made using solid 3/4 inch Baltic birch wood and sanded and stained to a beautiful finish. This van can be used for cross country driving and or a show car. This van need nothing. To much to list. Call any time with any questions. **** I can have this bus shipped to your front door at whole sale cost I also can ship world wide ** Over 270 Additional pictures and information as well as other nice VW buses can be seen on my web site WESTCOASTSAMBA . VW Golf GTD wagon makes us swoon ahead of Geneva reveal
Thu, Jan 29 2015The European market is just crammed with power wagons we can't get our hands on: big ones like the Audi RS6 Avant and Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, but also little ones like the new Mercedes CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, Skoda Octavia RS and Seat Leon ST Cupra. Now there'll be one more, and as you might have guessed, it comes from the Volkswagen Group. At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, VW will present the new Golf GTD Variant. And if you're wondering what it's all about, it's all right there in the name: those three letters tell us it's a performance diesel, and the Variant name tells us it's a wagon (which we'd more readily recognize as the SportWagen on this side of the Atlantic). So there you have it: a performance-oriented diesel wagon, but not one we're never likely to see on American roads. If you ever did see one up close, though, you'd find a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four under the hood with 181 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque – enough to send this nimble oil tanker to 62 in 7.9 seconds, all the while returning over 53 miles per gallon (on the lenient European cycle, anyway). Along with the engine, VW has thrown in other GTD performance-minded bits, including a sports suspension and progressive steering. Visual telltales include unique front and rear bumpers, grilles, 17-inch alloys, blacked-out roof rails, smoked taillight lenses and an interior with plaid sports seats, stainless steel pedals... the works. European buyers will be able to enjoy all this and more while hauling all their stuff down the Autobahn, passing gas station after gas station in oil-burning bliss. World premiere of the new Golf GTD Variant - The perfect all-round package: sporty, economical, comfortable and spacious - Launch set for Geneva Motor Show Since 1982 Volkswagen's GTD logo has stood for Gran Turismo Diesel, with its promise of sporty yet economical motoring. Now for the first time, the GTD initials grace the Golf Variant, which like the Golf GTD, boasts the 184 PS (135 kW) TDI engine. The new Golf GTD Variant is set for its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, and is available to order as of now at a price of 31,975 euros. The Golf GTD Variant* is excellently placed to establish itself as an iconic long-distance cruiser.
Recharge Wrap-up: VW CEO mulls battery factory, voters approve $201B in transportation funding
Mon, Nov 21 2016Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller says that it would "make sense" for the automaker to begin producing its own batteries. As the company moves toward electrification, Muller says it would be a smart move to build a battery factory. "If more than a quarter of our cars are to be electronic vehicles in the foreseeable future then we are going to need approximately 3 million batteries a year," he says. Volkswagen has agreed to cut 30,000 jobs in its restructuring, while committing to creating 9,000 jobs in Germany through battery manufacturing and mobility services. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Election results show a desire for transportation funding. Earlier this month, voters in 22 states approved ballot measures adding up to $201 billion in funding for transportation projects, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. California passed 15 transportation measures, including one in Los Angeles worth $120 billion for roads, bridges, and transit. The state of Washington secured $54 billion for light rail and buses. Atlanta approved about $4 billion for road and transit projects. Illinois and New Jersey passed measures to prevent the diversion of transportation user fee revenue to other industries. A Delaware federal judge ordered the DOE to give the documents – which concern a presentation by Fisker to the DOE in which it falsely claimed to meet milestones set forth in a government loan – to lawyers in a case in which investors claim Fisker lied to them about financial troubles. While the DOE has given over documents already, they were incomplete and heavily redacted. "I understand that such disclosures may have a negative impact on future DOE analyses," says US District Judge Sue Robinson. "but conclude nonetheless that under the circumstances at bar – the public money at stake, the Congressional hearings, and the fact that Fisker Automotive is now a defunct company – the balance of interests favors plaintiffs." Volkswagen formally introduces super-efficient XL1
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Lightweight and low drag are hallmarks of great sportscar design. But when paired with a super-efficient, hybrid powertrain, you have the Volkswagen's XL1 that has been formally introduced in Geneva today.
When the 1,700-lb, carbon-fiber-bodied two-seater hits the road, its claimed 261 miles per gallon will make it the world's most-fuel-efficient production car. Though "production car" might be a stretch since VW said in a February press release that the XL1 would be built using "handcrafting-like production methods." We translate that to mean you won't be seeing many of these cars on the road. Though no one at VW has mentioned pricing yet, early rumors suggested a six-figure price tag.
That's supercar budget for a vehicle that has a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.
