Full Front Bench Seat (non Walk Through) Rare on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
This is a fairly rare 1972 double sliding door panel van. It's an actual Kombi model built as a commercial vehicle by VW. The front seat is the full width, 3 passenger, non walk through type that makes this bus even more rare. I'm helping sell this on eBay for a friend who is the legal owner and everything is true to the best of my knowledge. I've taken several pictures trying my best to show all the flaws. It's possible I might have missed something and if I did it wasn't intensional. I've also driven the bus and here's what I found. The engine is a GE code 2000cc with hydraulic lifters retrofitted from either a 1978 or 1979 fuel injected bus. It starts right up and has a lot of power. There is a small oil leak and I'd guess that's from leaking push rod tube seals which are easy to replace. When running, the idle "hunts" and I believe this is caused by either a bad brake booster or maybe just the brake booster vacuum line has a leak, an easy fix. When shifting there is a slight gear grind going into third. The bus has some rust issues and the pictures should display that pretty well I think. The mileage is unknown but quite high. I can help arrange worldwide shipping for the buyer. A deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours via Paypal. The balance is due in 7 days via bank wire transfer. Please see my feedback and rest assured that I am an honest seller with 100% feedback rating. Full set of pictures can be viewed here: http://s433.photobucket.com/user/aeromech32254/library/Scott1972DoublesliderPanel Here's a statement from the owner:
I am the third owner of this van. It was originally imported by and
for the use of an Idaho VW dealer in 1972. It was purchased from that dealer in
1973 by one of the shops mechanics. I purchased the van from him around 1985. This
van carries a heavy pay load and has been a work vehicle all the time I have
owned it. Ithas carried wood, stone, compost, nursery inventory and more.
Around 1995 my mechanic replaced the engine and gas tank with one's out of a
van from the late 70's. I also had him add gauges and an external oil
filtration system made by amzoil. It's location history is approximately:
1972-1976 –
1976-1993 -
1993-2011 -
2011-present -
Since being driven to
This is the only bay window double door
slider I have ever seen with the bench seat. It came stock with 3 seat belts.
Feel free to ask questions. All information is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

VW Group to split brands under four holding companies
Tue, Jun 16 2015The Volkswagen Group is planning a tremendous shift in its internal structure that will decentralize operations by splitting its 12 brands into four different holding companies. Here's the breakdown. Things will be split logically, considering the inter-sharing of parts, platforms, and engines. The Volkswagen brand, Seat, and Skoda make up a passenger vehicle division led by former BMW man Herbert Diess. Audi, which is tightly intertwined with Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, will be managed by current Audi exec Rupert Stadler. Porsche and Bentley, which are already quite close, will be joined by Bugatti and run by Matthias Mueller. Finally, a commercial vehicles division will include Volkswagen Commercial, Scania, and Man. Former Daimler exec Andreas Renschler will take care of the big vehicles. The massive move, according to Automotive News Europe, is part of an internal VAG effort to move away from the structure established by ousted Chairman Ferdinand Piech, who favored a compact, but highly centralized, management structure to oversee the independent actions of the company's brands. Criticism of Piech's arrangement stemmed from the company's slow responses to changes in the market, ANE reports. The new structure should make for a more efficient, streamlined company that's better able to make crucial decisions. What are your thoughts? Should VAG decentralize, or did Piech have the right idea? Have your say in Comments.
Volkswagen posts quarterly profit despite drop in sales
Thu, Oct 29 2020Volkswagen returned to profit in the third quarter as surging Chinese demand for luxury cars helped offset a 1.1% drop in vehicle deliveries due to the pandemic, sending its shares as much as 3% higher on Thursday. The German automaker's return to the black comes amid spiking coronavirus cases in Europe that led governments in France and Germany to order their countries back into strict national lockdowns on Wednesday. "The coronavirus remains a central problem," Volkswagen Chief Financial Officer Frank Witter said in a conference call with reporters. "This situation now is anything but relaxed." But Witter said the group expected the economic recovery to continue and did "not anticipate any nationwide lockdowns in larger markets." Witter said the takeover of U.S. truck maker Navistar International by Volkswagen's trucking unit Traton was an important acquisition, but the "current economic climate will not make this easy." Volkswagen reiterated it expects to post a profit for the full year, saying its business "recovered noticeably" in the third quarter as sales in China of premium vehicles, including Audi and Porsche sports cars, rose 3%. The quarterly performance was also aided by a series of cost-cutting measures launched earlier this year. Volkswagen said its net liquidity rose to 24.8 billion euros from 18.7 billion at the end of the second quarter. Excluding one-time items, third-quarter operating profit was 3.2 billion euros ($3.8 billion), down from 4.8 billion euros a year earlier, but up from a second quarter loss of 1.7 billion. In a note to clients, Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois described the results as a "solid performance with strong cash, but relatively muted in the context of the (auto) sector recovery." Last week, German rival Daimler reported a record 24% jump in Chinese demand for its Mercedes-Benz cars, boosting its margins in the third quarter. Italian-American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot manufacturer PSA Group both also posted solid results this week. Witter said Volkswagen could not say for sure whether it would meet EU CO2 emissions targets this year, adding "it will be a tough race." At 1030 GMT, Volkswagen shares were up 2.9% at 129.20 euros. Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
