1991 Westfalia One Owner,
Bought new in Germany under the tourist delivery program. This van spent a couple months traveling all over Germany. The original owners then had it shipped home to the NW Washington area wear it stayed.  Factory cruise, AC, power windows, power mirrors. The van was purchased with some very rare extras, The van was ordered with rare tent made by Isabella. The tents were only sold in Europe and built for Vanagons specifically. The tent fabric was done to matching colors of the factory paint. The tent is very rare. I have never seen another like it. The van also was factory ordered with a very rare aluminium awning made by Dometic, ( the same company who built the refrigerators for the all Vanagon Westfalia's.)  The previous owners took amazing care of this van. Any time the van needed repairs it went to the same trusted local shop. Synthetic oil has only been used for oil changes. OG Paint in Excellent Condition, No wrecks. Garaged since new, no really garaged since new...., Brand New Go Westy 2.5 liter Motor w/ Less Than 1000 miles,  ($10,000 have receipt) This is a one owner van. NO RUST OR SEAM RUST.... Near mint interior. Stainless steel exhaust and coolant pipes. I have receipts totaling well over 20k in recent work and repairs (way to much to list).

Paint Body - Original paint in excellent condition with only a few minor dings and scratches, chips. One of the nicest colors (Bordeaux).  Absolutely no rust or seam rust. The original under coat is in excellent condition. Both front and rear fiberglass bumpers have been recently repainted.

Engine/Transmission - Brand new 2.5 liter GoWesty motor with less than 1000 miles. The cost of the motor and extras was almost $10,000. The new motor was installed less than a year ago with all receipts. The manual transmission has been rebuilt and shifts perfectly. I have a stack of receipts for repairs and oil changes. This van was meticulously maintained. The van runs and drives like new. With the added power of the GoWesty 2.5 liter, this van is has much more power than the stock 2.1 liter.

**** Below is a list of work done totaling over $20,000 *****

New 2.5 liter GoWesty motor, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, synthetic transmission oil, full stainless steel exhaust by Flow Master, thermostat, oil cooler for transmission, radiator fan motor by GoWesty, stainless steel coolant pipes. water pump, power steering rack and lines, all belts, high and low pressure fuel lines, rear heater core, alignment, new high end Toyo truck rated tires, front and rear wheel bearings and seals, oil pressure switch, alternator, lower control arm bushings, rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, new ECU (electronic control unit), left and right window regulators (to replace problematic electric windows.)

Interior - The interior in this Vanagon is in near mint condition and still looks new. The seats and carpet are in excellent condition, head liner perfect, all cabinets look like new. Dual swivel seats, all tables and factory camping accessories included. All curtains in great shape. I have the original bug screen and front window and slider door curtains. The camp stove is excellent condition.

Pop Top - The pop top is in excellent condition. the ceiling does not have the typical mildew staining common on Westfalias. The upper bunk is in excellent condition as well.

Other - Bike rack, rare factory ordered Isabella German tent and rare factory Dometic awning. I removed the electric windows and replaced them with manual regulators as the electric windows are known to be problematic at best. This van was ordered with factory cruise control which works great. Factory stereo with manuals. I have all factory manuals and instructions for the van, camping equipment, tent, awning, ect.

This is a very nice original Westfalia that has been completely upgraded and restored mechanically. The rest of the van is in exceptional original condition. This van has been well cared for by the original owners. This van is the perfect cross country, expedition vehicle.   The van runs and drives like new. I have every booklet, manual, and all paper work that came with the van when it was bought new.
One of the nicest original Westfalias with all the upgrades in the country
.

**** I can have this bus shipped to your front door at whole sale cost
I also can ship world wide

Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.

Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers

Sun, Mar 29 2015

As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top.
