This is my personal van that I've poured tons of money and time into in the last few years.  It's a very reliable machine and has been modified fairly tastefully as far as these go.  I've driven this all over my state and rehabbed most of the things that break over their years of owner neglect.  I will not sell to anyone outside of the continental United States.  I will not assist with any form of shipping at all.  The winning bidder must deposit 500.00 via PayPal with the remainder due in person upon pick-up of the vehicle.

1991 vanagon carat in pastel white interior excellent shape with no staining on the upholstery.  The rear mattress has a small cigarette burn and the slider door card is missing -all else is in great shape.  The interior was removed before pergo was laid down to give a finished "wall to wall" look.  Dash is perfect with no cracking, all gauges work as intended.  Oil temp and pressure gauges are added to the lower dash to aid in engine monitoring.

Stereo-Sony iPod ready head unit with custom door enclosures housing 5-1/4 and 4" speakers along with relocating the window switches.  Everything now works as intended.  Door window switches roll the windows up as intended without having to do the gowesty mod (I disliked it).  New 4" speakers are located in the rear factory locations and Sony 6x9" are located in the hatch.  The stereo now has eight total speakers and everything stays with the van.

Brakes-fronts are Mercedes sl500 2 piston calipers with vented rotors.  This involves a stud conversion kit so no more wheel bolts up front.  Rotors are @60mm oversized 16"wheels are necessary for this van. Stopping power is excellent.
Rears are eurovan discs.  This solid disc uses a caliper actuated parking brake that holds great. All brake parts have @. 4000miles on them and are still practically new.

Wheels/tires-wheels are audi a4 16" alloys these have been properly machined to fit.  Proper length press fit rear studs and threaded front studs were bought to make these a safe fitment.  Tires are cooper rst 60,000 mile tires 98t load just purchase from sears in June.  These are also nearly new.

Suspension steering-new shocks, upper a-arm bushings, ball joints, used Westy springs to lift 2", new inner tie rods, new outer tie rods, rebuilt rack and pinion, aligned 6/30/2013, new power steering lines, new rear wheel bearings (zerked), new cv boots packed.

Transmission-gasket kit this trans is a cleaned and inspected unit that has been resealed from a donor with 151,000miles on it.  It was very clean inside no metal.  A 1990 trans that does not hack e the defective 3/4 slider issues.  Used trans installed with new clutch, synthetic fluid, machined flywheel.

Engine-new gowesty billet thermostat housing, stainless water pump pipe, stainless oil cooler pipes, coolant hose kit,  new injectors, new belts, new tune up kit, new oil sensors, new o2sensor.  Runs very well oil pressure and temps are kept within range . Just a strong running stock water boxer.  This has vw heads on it (not amc) but there are obvious signs of a reseal being done on it.  I've run it for 2000 miles and bee impressed, the previous engine owner stated it was rebuilt within the last 80k.

Hvac-new rear heater core, front blower motor, a/c drier and expansion valve.

Things that don't work-
Rear hatch and slider central lock motors do not activate.  Both fronts do.  I never looked into anything else further to pick it apart.  Extra central locking parts come with it.  Cruise control is sketchy.  Sometimes it kicks out on you. Those are the knowns.

I have been all over this van.   I just can't put any more money into it.  Bottom line is I have too many projects and I have to cut my losses. Winning bidder gets my receipts for over 4000.00 that I can account for along with two previous owners worth of documentation.

Please only bid if you have the money and means to come get this.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.

Auto sales in March and first quarter down nearly across the board

Wed, Apr 3 2019

Nearly every major automaker reported weak U.S. sales for March and the first quarter of 2019, citing a rough start to the year, but said a robust economy and strong labor market should encourage consumers to buy more vehicles as 2019 rolls on. GM, which no longer releases monthly sales figures, saw first-quarter sales fall 7 percent, with declines across all brands. Sales of Silverado pickup trucks fell nearly 16 percent and the high-margin Chevy Suburban large SUV dropped 25 percent. Ford also no longer releases monthly sales numbers, but is due to release its first-quarter sales figures on Thursday. According to industry data, Ford's sales fell 2 percent in the quarter and 5 percent in March. Ford representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. FCA reported a 7 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and a 3 percent drop for the first quarter. All of FCA's brands dropped in March, except for Ram, which saw a 15 percent increase in pickup truck sales. "The industry had a tough first quarter, but with spring finally starting to show its face and continued strong economic indicators ... we are confident that new vehicle sales demand will strengthen going forward," FCA's U.S. head of sales, Reid Bigland, said in a statement. Toyota reported a 3.5 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and 5 percent for the first quarter, hurt by declining demand for its Corolla sedans and Camry vehicles. "While some of our competitors are abandoning sedans, we remain optimistic about the future of the segment," Toyota said in a statement. Nissan posted a 5.3 percent drop in sales in March, and its first-quarter sales were down 11.6 percent. Honda and Hyundai bucked the trend. Honda's U.S. sales rose 4.3 percent in March and 2 percent in the quarter, while Hyundai's were up 1.7 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. Passenger-car sales suffered throughout the January-March quarter compared with the same period in 2018 as Americans continued to abandon them in favor of larger, more comfortable pickup trucks and SUVs, which are far more profitable for automakers. The battle for market share in the particularly lucrative large-pickup truck market intensified in the quarter, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Ram brand outsold the U.S.' No. 1 automaker General Motors' Chevrolet-brand trucks. The two automakers have both launched redesigned pickup trucks.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
