Vanagon Carrat 1.9 PD TDi Diesel
I have for sale my 1990 Vanagon Carrat automatic.

It has a Eurospec 1.9PD TDi engine conversion with intercooler.( This is the only automatic kit done with a PD as far as I know)
It's registered as a diesel in California ( so no worries with smog)
I put about 20K miles on the engine when the actuator on the turbo failed, which unfortunately also did minor damage to the engine.( engine block was not damaged )
The engine was completely rebuild with new pistons and rods and new turbo.
The cam was also replaced and so too the lifters with the new DLC ones.( This was just a upgrade )
The engine currently has about 3K since the rebuild.

The transmission has about 20K on it(new when installed with the engine)
I started with a NOS trans, and replaced the guts with that of the Audi Turbo.
The difference is the turbo trans has 4 planetary gear vs 3 on the Vanagon trans.
I also used the clutch packs from the turbo trans which if recall correct has 2 extra discs per gear set.
I installed the lower "rare" ring and pinion to bring the RPM down.
The torque converter was also re-done by Oregon Torque Converters as they had to change the stall speed as it was slipping at high RPM (150HP Chip)

It has the 280mm big brakes and also the bigger SA rear drums and shoes.
The wheels are 16" Overland Parts alloy wheels with 215/70-16 Grabber UHP tires(50%)
Front Bull Bar.
SA round lights and grill kit with H4 HID lights.
Has a rare OE VW CD player radio (Looks just like the original radio but with cd player)
AC is cold and has the newer R134 compressor.

The chassis has 213K miles and it gets about 22mpg in town and 26-28mpg freeway.
The body and interior is 7/10.

I can send more pics per request.

This vehicle is sold "AS IS" No warranty said or implied.
There are also some spare parts that go with the Van that I have collected along the way.

VW previews huge screens, gesture control with Golf R Touch Concept at CES

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Volkswagen is showing off the future of infotainment and connected driving at CES 2015 with a fleet of concepts that highlight its latest technology. According to its displays, the coming years might mean gesture-based vehicle controls and electric cars that drive themselves to find their own charging locations. VW's biggest debut at CES is its next-gen infotainment system, dubbed MIB II. The setup supports a wide array of smartphone integration standards, including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, to make sure that practically every smartphone user can pair the device's interface with the vehicle. Beyond just keeping occupants entertained, MIB II offers a system called Regular Routes that detects traffic along the driver's regular commute to work and suggests alternatives. The Parking Guide also helps find parking spots that are likely open. If MIB II represents the near future of VW infotainment, then the technology on the Golf R Touch Concept is the next step from there. It takes the brand's hot hatch and adds support for gesture controls inside, plus a trio of massive infotainment screens. This R features a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, an 8-inch screen below it for things like the climate control and switching media and a customizable 12.3-inch display that digitizes the instrument panel. A camera in front of the central display waits for the driver's hands to make specific movements that activate various vehicle functions. Despite all of the potentially distracting screens, VW says the system offers control without requiring a look away from the road. VW hopes the technology reduces driver distraction and creates a closer relationship with the car. Another of the German automaker's big tech showcases is an e-Golf that demonstrates the potential future of both electric and semi-autonomous driving. This version can be charged inductively, rather than through a traditional power cord, and the exterior lights show when the vehicle is fully recharged. It's also equipped with the e-Station Guide that helps drivers find a charging location and tells them about the payment options there. This e-Golf's other major innovation is VW's Trained Parking system. A camera at the front scans the route to a parking space, and if the driver returns later, then the process can be done semi-automatically.

Volkswagen e-Co-Motion concept poised for delivery to Geneva

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

With Nissan getting ready to launch the e-NV200, it appears Volkswagen is looking to go after the same zero-emission commercial vehicle market with the all-electric 2013 e-Co-Motion Concept. Debuting next week at the Geneva Motor Show, the e-Co-Motion Concept might be small in size, but VW says it has cargo and payload capacities that should be perfect for small businesses.
Measuring 179 inches long, 75 inches wide and 77 inches tall, the e-Co-Motion Concept has about the same footprint as the current Golf, and it has a cargo capacity of 162 cubic feet and a maximum payload of more than 1,700 pounds. There isn't too much information on the e-Co-Motion just yet - such as what electric components and platform are used - but the press release posted below states while the concept is shown as a cargo van, future body styles could include a passenger wagon or a refrigerated box van.

How should Volkswagen deal with its diesel problems?

Mon, Sep 21 2015

The hounds of hell are bearing down on Volkswagen in the wake of allegations of cheating on diesel emissions testing. In just a single day, Volkswagen's stock has dropped 23 percent and the German government has announced that it is going to investigate a far larger number of vehicles over emissions violations. The American storm is quickly becoming a global one. Volkswagen sells over a million diesel vehicles a year and also has more than 13 percent of the automotive market overall – it was the number one automaker in the world up until the scandal. Yet in a matter of hours, Volkswagen has also become a pariah with potential fines and recalls that may be dwarfed by how the alleged lies and deceit change how governments and consumers view the company. Consumers are really going to be the key to the company's survival. It's those consumers who are really going to be the key to the company's survival. Every single one of them now finds themselves with a product that was sold illegally and may not be registered until recall work is done. What's worse is that Volkswagen doesn't yet have a solution for the emissions issue to offer these customers. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Volkswagen has found itself in violation of EPA emission regulations. Volkswagen is in a world of trouble, so what now? As a car dealer and former financial analyst who took several companies public, I believe Volkswagen can and should consider three points of action that would make an enduring difference in the times to come. 1. Offer affected TDI owners a compelling reason to stay with the brand. Recall work and a cup of coffee at the dealership are not going to be enough to placate current owners. Volkswagen should provide compensation for customers at the earliest opportunity and offer some type of inducement that keeps them within the fold. This shouldn't be the industry's version of a Chuck E. Cheese coupon - a small discount on a new vehicle. Volkswagen needs to offer something along the lines of a strong warranty extension of the entire powertrain (not just the emissions system) or some type of valuable feature upgrade for these vehicles so that owners feel that they have been treated fairly. Perhaps a combination of a brand new navigation system, software upgrades for the infotainment components, or some type of basic free WiFi service would be a healthy act of generosity.
