If you have been looking for an extremely rare vintage VW (25 years old this year), you have found it.
Not a Weekender, not a Wesfalia, not a 7 passenger, but one that I have never seen (until this one) - a 6 passenger Wolfsburg edition. Yep, 3 rows of bucket seats! Could this be the holy grail of Vanagons?
According to the previous owner, this setup is a factory option only available in Germany. I have done a bit of research, but could not find any information. It is way cool, and very professional, and everything about it indicates it is a factory job. All 3 rows of bucket seats are the same style/fabric, and each has its own "pillow" insert for the headrest (factory VW with part numbers). While the front two seats do not rotate (like a Westy), the second row does (360 degrees). The third row reclines and can be raised/lowered. On the driver's side between the 2nd and 3rd row there is a retracting table and fluorescent light. There are really cool storage compartments built in on the outside of the back row of seats.
The body does have some rust, but is mostly solid. Nose is peppered with stone chips that have surface rust, step pads have rust, driver's side wheel well has rust, and hatch is rusted through. Underside is very solid. The interior is overall clean and in good condition, but there are cigarette burns on the driver's seat, carpet and dash (by ash tray); this must have been a long time ago, as there is no foul smell or residual odor. Some light stains throughout, but all in all a clean interior. All of the glass is intact, and all of the lights work. Bumpers are cracked. A/C ductwork needs to be reinstalled (all pieces are there). Headliner is perfect. Factory owner's manual, jack, and skeleton key.
The 2.1 wasserboxer runs well (receipt for rebuilt heads), the automatic transmission shifts smooth, and the van drives nice. The engine compartment is a bit dirty/grimy, but there are no puddles under the van, so nothing appears to be leaking (and all fluids are topped off). The cruise control works, and it has factory A/C (not tested). The tires are in good condition (2 matching pairs) and mounted to factory 14" alloy wheels. There are some extra parts that come with the bus too.
It has power windows (passenger side is not currently working; extra switch included), power steering and power brakes. The interior cabin fan does not turn on (suspect a bad switch; replacement switch included). The Odometer is not working (reads 175,511), so true mileage is unknown. Gas gauge is also not working. Fuel gauge, temperature gauge, speedometer, idiot lights and even the clock are working, as is the factory AM/FM Cassette player.
If you have any questions or information about this rare Vanagon setup, please contact me (Kevin) via email through this listing or calling 616-581-8815.

German judge 'inclined to dismiss' hedge fund lawsuit against Porsche
Fri, Feb 27 2015Last year, around two dozen investors, including hedge funds, leveled a 1.4 billion euro ($1.95 billion at the time) lawsuit against Porsche in connection with the automaker's attempted takeover of Volkswagen in 2008. The Stuttgart Regional Court dismissed the case. Around 19 of those plaintiffs are heading back to court to appeal the ruling and still hope to get 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion). However, according to one German judge, the chances for success aren't any better this time around. "On balance it's our view that we consider the lawsuit, or the appeal, to be unpromising for several reasons," Gerhard Ruf, a judge in Stuttgart, said to Reuters. "We are inclined to dismiss the case." The court's ruling on the appeal will be announced on March 26. The investors' case hinges on Porsche's strategy surrounding the botched takeover. The sports car maker said that it wasn't trying to control VW, when in fact it was. These hedge funds had bet against Volkswagen stock, but the share price surged when Porsche's plan inevitably came to light. Investors have sued the sports car company multiple times since then in attempts to recoup billions of dollars. However, none of the lawsuits have been successful, whether attempted in the US or Germany. Former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and and CFO Holger Haerter might still stand trial for the alleged stock manipulation, though. Everybody's doing flying cars, so why aren't we soaring over traffic already?
Mon, Oct 1 2018"Where's my flying car?" has been the meme for impending technology that never materializes since before there were memes. And the trough of disillusionment for vehicles that can take to sky continues to nosedive, despite a nonstop fascination with flying cars and a recent rash of announcements about the technology, particularly from traditional automakers. Earlier this month, Toyota applied for an eye-popping patent for a flying car that has wheels with spring-loaded pop-out helicopter rotors. The patent filing says the wheels/rotors would be electrically powered, while in on-land mode the vehicle would have differential steering like tracked vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers. At an airshow in July, Aston Martin unveiled its Volante Vision Concept, an autonomous hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle it developed with Rolls-Royce. Aston says the Volante can fly at top speeds of around 200 mph and bills it as a luxury car for the skies. Audi used the Geneva Motor Show in March to unveil a flying car concept called the Pop.Up Next it developed with Airbus and Italdesign. If the Pop.Up Next, an electric and autonomous quadcopter/city car combo, gets stuck in traffic, an app can be used to summon an Airbus-developed drone to pick up the passenger compartment pod, leaving the chassis behind. Audi said that the Pop.Up Next is a "flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities." But Audi also acknowledged that at this point it has no plans to develop it. The cash-stoked, skies-the-limit Silicon Valley tech crowd is also bullish on flying cars. The startup Kitty Hawk that's backed by Google co-founder Larry Page announced in June that it's taking pre-orders for its single-seat electric Flyer that's powered by 10 propellers and is capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. The current version can only fly up to 20 mph and 10 feet in the air and has a flight time of just 12 to 20 minutes on a full charge. The Flyer is considered a recreational vehicle, so doesn't require a pilot's license. Uber says it plans to launch its more ambitious Elevate program and UberAIR service in 2023. "Uber customers will be able to push a button and get a flight on-demand with uberAIR in Dallas, Los Angeles and a third international market," Uber Elevate promises on its website.
Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.
