1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro Van 2.1l Locker 4wd Low Gear No Reserve on 2040-cars
Henrico, Virginia, United States
Up for auction is my 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro 4WD. The van is all
stock, with low miles. I am the second owner. Runs good, shifts good,
goes down the road really well for a 26 year old vehicle. The
transmission was recently rebuilt to fix an issue with 4th gear, which
these earlier vans seem to be prone to. Starts right up, doesn't use any
oil, or leak any fluids. Head gaskets are dry and leak free.
Things I know are in need of attention, if you chose to: Paint is shot (doesn't bother me) Temp gauge in not operating Air conditioner does not work Power mirrors do not work on either side Locker vacuum system is in need of a rebuild Will need front brake pads soon, according to the inspection station One passenger armrest will not stay up Replace fuel lines from fuel pump to tank Recent work completed: Transmission rebuild with taller (.82) 4th gear for better highway manors New slave cylinder New right front axle Inspected in September New fuel lines to the injectors New fuel injector seals New Air filter New oxygen sensor New alternator and power steering belts New shift linkage parts Cap, rotor, wires I have the middle seat and it will come with the van. We took it out to have more room when camping. This van is sold as-is. Please arrange to come look at it if you like, or I will answer any questions you may have. I still drive it, so the mileage may increase. No reserve. Please refrain from bidding if you do not plan on following through with the auction. |

Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid
Thu, 20 Dec 2012Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."
Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.
Skoda Octavia vRS is just the thing for your pumped-up neighborhood
Fri, 26 Jul 2013Skoda, oh Skoda. You're just so cool. Maybe it's the fact that it's a brand that we don't get in these United States, but Skoda's rebadged Volkswagens, in particular the new Octavia vRS shown here, are just different enough from the hum-drum VWs on our shores that the Czech brand seems strangely desirable. Maybe we're just craving forbidden fruit.
This short, minute-long spot covers the new vRS in a world of excess, where strollers ride on 26-inch wheels, lawnmowers feature V8 engines and ice cream cones are the size of toddlers. As things often go in these ads, the Octavia vRS draws the eyes of passerby that are seemingly use to things far more ridiculous than a reasonably priced Czech sedan. In reality, the Octavia should be fairly familiar to American buyers. It uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot found in the Volkswagen GTI and Jetta GLI, with 217 horsepower, and sits on the same platform as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. Take a look at the full spot, below.
