Up for sale is a very solid 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. This is my baby; and unfortunately I'm forced to sell it. We recently put in a brand new 2.1 engine and it runs great. It has about 50 miles on in; all for the break in procedure. I haven't even had a chance to enjoy it before I'm forced to sell it. Many other parts were replaced at the same time.
Mechanical: Brand new fully rebuilt 2.1 engine (New AMC Heads) All fuel lines replaced Brand new alternator New Temp II Sensor New muffler, catalytic converter, exhaust gaskets and oxygen sensor Exhaust system in good condition, not rusted out. New cap, rotor, Battery replaced within the last year. Throttle body, icv, afm, and fuel injectors all replaced with low mileage units. (the van has a really nice idle now) New water pump. Coolant system flushed and bled. Previous owner claims transmission was rebuilt at 170,000. (I was never given the documentation, so I can't prove that it was) Transmission and clutch are in good working order. All tires replaced since I purchased the van a year and a half ago. All of them have good tread. Drives straight; no weird hums or vibrations.
Body: Body is in overall good condition, but does have some damage from over the years (all damage will be pictured below. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask). Body is generally clean with minimal rust (all rust is surface rust; I haven't found anywhere where the body is rusted through). I haven't found any seam rust, which is a good thing. All the rust I have found is in small patches, either under peaking out from under the rubber window seals and on the lowest part of the body under the. Again, all of this appears very minimal to me and probably could be fixed very easily, but I'm no auto body technician. The previous owner had the van repainted 4 years ago in the original silver. The paint has a nice shiny luster and appears to be in good condition. There are minor dents and dings on the vehicle, nothing out of the ordinary. Just normal wear and tear of a 27 year old vehicle.
Interior: Interior is overall nice and clean. Front seats have some wear, but overall good condition. Dash and door panels are in good shape. Radio and speakers have been upgraded. Bench seat and rear seat are in clean condition. Rear seat is a Z-bed and does fold down to a full size bed. The rear carpet was replaced with hardwood by the previous owner. The gauges have been having intermittent problems for the last couple months (I haven't had a chance to get it looked at). Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The speedometer and tachometer always seem to work though. The ash tray in the middle of the dash is broken. it can be easily replaced, as it is not fixated to the dash.
If your looking for a nice, solid, dependable van; that is not outrageously priced, this is the van for you. I will update the listing with any more info or pictures I have throughout the duration of the listing. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
Thank you

Weekly Recap: 2016 CTS-V gives Cadillac new momentum for the new year
Sat, Dec 27 2014It's been a rough year for Cadillac. The historic luxury carmaker been in the news for all of the wrong reasons: Declining sales, ditching its advertising agency and the relocation of its headquarters from Detroit to New York. But in late December, Cadillac reminded everyone what it does best: Build some of the rawest and most compelling luxury sedans in the world, as evidenced by the 2016 CTS-V. This monster churns out 640 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. Sound familiar? That's the Corvette Z06 engine, and it makes this CTS the most powerful production Cadillac ever. It also puts the sporting divisions of the Germans on notice. The new CTS-V easily overpowers the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic and its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 rated at 577 hp, and the BMW M5 (with the competition pack) and its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that pushes out 575 hp. The rear-wheel drive Cadillac can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, which is close to the 3.5-second time turned in by the 4Matic-driven E63 S, and a bit quicker than the 4.1 seconds posted by the M5. With Magnetic Ride Control, General Motors' stout eight-speed automatic transmission (also used in the Corvette), Brembo brakes and a carbon-fiber option package that pretty much builds your car out of carbon fiber – it's clear this Cadillac means business. Truth be told, we expected this CTS-V to deliver. It's been a serious sports sedan for a decade, and the recent generation and its 556-hp arrogance have been particularly memorable. But notice what we're doing here? We're talking about product. Not who makes Cadillac's ads, or if the brand's headquarters has a mailing address in NYC. Like the 2016 ATS-V that's due in the spring, the debut of the 2016 CTS-V (on sale in late summer) is a shot in the arm for Cadillac, and its arrival comes during time of transition. The brand is trying to reinvent itself as a modern luxury maker. It wants new customers, a different image and obviously more sales. Those things are going to take time, but with a 640-hp sledgehammer of a sports sedan on tap for next year, Cadillac can still maintain some of its swagger through all of the change. VW confirms three-row Tiguan to be built in Mexico
Tue, Mar 10 2015Volkswagen has been toying with the idea of a three-row crossover for some time – as evidenced by the CrossBlue concept in 2013 and the Magellan concept way back in 2002. But now the German automaker is bringing it to fruition, and it's doing so right in our back yard (or across the fence, anyway). In its latest announcement, VW confirmed recent reports that it will build a new three-row Tiguan at its plant in Puebla, Mexico. It will be made alongside the Golf and Jetta at the company's largest assembly plant outside of Germany, after a billion-dollar expansion program that will encompass nearly a million more square feet of space and employ some 2,000 workers. Once production of the new Tiguan comes on full steam in 2017, the plant will be pumping out 500 of them every day to be delivered in the Americas, but also exported to markets overseas (save for China and Europe). At that point, VW will be producing 90 percent of its products for North America locally. Of course this won't be the first time Volkswagen will be producing a Tiguan. The current model was introduced in 2007 and underwent a facelift in 2011, but includes only two rows of seating and is imported to North America from factories overseas. VOLKSWAGEN DE MEXICO TO PRODUCE THE NEW THREE-ROW TIGUAN IN ITS PUEBLA ASSEMBLY PLANT Mar 9, 2015 - Investment of $1 billion at Puebla plant - US-CEO Michael Horn: Localization key to safeguard our competitive position - Start of production end of 2016 Puebla/Herndon, March 9, 2015 – Volkswagen de Mexico announced today that a three-row version of the Tiguan will be produced at its plant in Puebla, Mexico. The car will be launched to the markets in 2017. The company will invest $1 billion for the expansion and modernization of its production facilities at the Puebla plant, as well as tooling to produce auto parts at suppliers. Volkswagen de Mexico's strategy of technological upgrading, which started with the production of the new Golf on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, goes to the next step with the new Tiguan. "Localization has become key to safeguarding our competitive position on the global market and manufacturing the Tiguan in Mexico will bring production closer to the U.S.-market," said Michael Horn, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. "It is another proof point that Volkswagen is committed to further growth in the U.S. and North American markets.
VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs
Sat, 01 Mar 2014Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
