1984.5 Volkswagen Bus/vanagon Gl Westfalia Full Camper- No Rust- Award Winning on 2040-cars
Spring City, Tennessee, United States
The van: Vanagon Westfalia 1984 Wolfsberg , Automatic , A/C 2.0 ABA inline 4 No Rust This van has won awards at shows , and yet it goes camping. Upgrades: Transmission: Professionally converted from the crappy 4 speed manual to
an automatic. All factory VW parts were used,(we placed 2 vans side by side and
swapped the parts over-all bolt up and factory fresh) it now will climb hills with gusto and unlike the 3/4th gear in the 4
speed sticks , it won’t implode on you. Also if you live in the city and love
grid lock your leg won’t explode using a clutch. This made the van more bullet
proof also. The engine lid fits flush; did I mention it was professionally installed? You can set a glass of water on the engine lid it runs so smooth. Only German filters are used on it. And I only use the Vanagon Diesel oil filters on it. No cheap Chinese stuff. Cooling: It has real D Load tires now. They are A/T off road Yokahawa Geolanders ,these tires are so great I have them on my pickup truck now, they are silent and now the van can go places , before it would get stuck in wet grass, I’ve now had it in some killer National Forest camping spots you just drive right up, no Chuck Norris stunts needed. You just putt along then park it. The rims are upgraded to Mercedes rims. I took all the guess work out for you upgrading your wheels and tires and its better than anyone else’s setup. These are real tires. They only have 5000 miles on them. The van does not see saw like other Vanagons, this one drives like it is on rails. It has German Bilstein shocks, I sold 2 gallons of blood to afford these. Fuel: Upgraded to a South African grill, the auxiliary lights are wired to a foot switch on the floor. This means you get the factory high beams, and the auxiliary beams. They are driven on plug in play relays bypassing the factory wiring .And professionally wired. If you know these vans you know you need upgraded light wiring. (They must use night vision scopes in Europe)The seal beams were removed and been upgraded to Halogen 9004 lamps and lights. This van has modern lights. And they are BRIGHT. All the professional wiring is labeled so you won’t have a hacked van. Camping Stuff The interior was completely removed and POR-15 installed on the interior seams and all the battery boxes which means NO RUST. The refrigerator was upgraded; it works and loves to run on propane. (By the way the tank is full and ready to use) The propane regulator was upgraded. The water tank , resealed and has a new pump. The stove works. Installed an extra cooling fan for the frig, now it will work when its 100 degrees outside when parked. Also you can camp on 110volts or 12volt on the lights and camping equipment unlike a factory van. Now you can fully use a camp ground electrical plug. The frig will work on 110v or 12volt. The GoWesty upgrade kit was installed on the frig. This was professionally done also.
VW factory interior stuff. Yep towing, this van can tow. I welded (I’m a certified welder) a Class III hitch using the rear tow hooks mounted inside the frame. Now you have a stronger rear end, unlike Vanagon’s from the factory, the rear end is solid as a rock if you get rear ended. You can carry a rear platform also. No more stinking trash or gas cans inside the van. If you see a Vanagon with a hitch that just attaches to the factory rear hooks via a clip setup, you can snicker at them, and they will have hitch envy. Refusal to sell: Q: Why am I seeing it on eBay and not VW site this can’t be
legit something is wrong here etc etc (Start
an internet thread bashing this sale and talk smack or something else that
makes you feel good). A: The van is at my Mother’s and I don’t want her dealing
with a bunch of hippies, or tire kickers. Once the van is sold it’s sold. This
is the most painless way for me. I’m at
another end of the county and can’t personally deal with it and I don’t want
her all stressed out. She has the title and the keys and that’s it. Q :Zipcode/Where is the van: A: She is located at zip code 37381; I won’t give you the
address until being sold, like I said I don’t want my mother being bothered by
hippies or tire kickers. I also don’t want her stolen in the middle of the
night. |

2020 Virtual Geneva Motor Show Editors' Picks
Fri, Mar 6 2020There may not have been an actual Geneva Motor Show this year, but there were still loads of car reveals that happened the week that the show would have happened. So we still wanted to highlight what our favorites of the would-be show. Our list of cars seemed to match the theme of the reveals, too, highlighting over-the-top supercars and forward thinking electric vehicles. Scroll down to see our favorites. Fifth Place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster - 21 points Managing Editor, Greg Rasa: Astons are works of art, and this one's ready for the Louvre. The design nods to Aston history are nifty. It looks like a jet fighter, except those have canopies. Not sure what 186 mph would be like in this, but don't try it in summer when there are bugs. Contributing Editor, Joe Lorio: Admittedly, this one is a little silly. A $950,000 sports car with no roof? A 700-hp two-seater with no windshield? But the offerings at the Geneva auto show have always tilted toward absurdity, and Aston’s V12 Speedster is endearingly outrageous as a fighter plane for the street. Third Place (Tie): Volkswagen ID.4 - 26 points Senior Producer, Chris McGraw: I don't have much to say about this other than I am a huge fan of more EVs coming to the market, which is why two-thirds of my picks are electric, including the ID.4. Producer, Alex Malberg: Any new fully-electric crossover is a vote for me. The fact it doesn't look terrible and VW will be including AWD later are bonuses. Third Place (Tie): Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA - 26 points Road Test Editor, Zac Palmer: Hard to argue with the logic of this one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is already the best driver in this class of hot sedans, so why not extend the lead with a special model. That wing is Type R levels of high, and I completely approve. Associate Editor, Byron Hurd: Love this car. Love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful, aggressive and fast. I'd take it over an M3 or C63 any day. As cool as the GTAm is, though, I'd rather stick to the four-seat GTA. Something about a four-door car with two seats just doesn't really work for me. I haven't alienated ALL of my friends quite yet. Second Place: Hyundai Prophecy - 35 points Senior Editor, Green, John Snyder: I get whiffs of the Genesis Coupe from this sleek concept. I like the focus on form, with interesting details to discover if you look for them. West Coast Editor, James Riswick: Does it look like a Porsche? Sure, but Porsches look neat.
China sticking to its guns on EVs for the future
Mon, Apr 27 2015Automakers are obviously free to develop whatever next-gen, zero-emissions tech that they want. However, if a company wants to get on the good side of the Chinese government, that strategy better include some plug-in vehicles. The authorities there are lending major support to plug-ins at the moment, and its forcing the auto industry to play along. According to Bloomberg, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and BMW are all launching dedicated EV brands with their joint venture partners, and as many as 40 electric models could hit the Chinese market this year alone. However, analysts don't think the vehicles are going to sell well. Instead, the launches are essentially a way for companies to play nice with the government and help get the approval to build factories in the country. Take Toyota as an example. The company is pushing the future of hydrogen hard with promotional films for the Mirai and engineers talking down fast-charging EVs. Still, the Japanese automaker is getting ready to launch two EV brands in China with its joint venture partners, according to Bloomberg. China's push for alternative fuels has been happening for a while, but it really kicked into high gear last year. The government has set a goal to improve fleet-wide economy by 40 percent by the end of the decade in order to spend less importing oil and for the population's health. The plan has shown some success so far with hybrid and EV sales growing early in 2015. Audi spending an additional $2.5 billion on expansion through 2019
Thu, Jan 1 2015Every year, it seems the Volkswagen Group announces a new and larger spend to push growth and profit, with Audi a regular recipient of the moolah. That's reasonable, seeing as hauls in 40 percent of Group operating profits. In December last year Audi said it would spend an additional 100 million euros ($122M US) per year through 2018 to develop new models and expand production, targeting 60 models by 2020 and luxury sales leadership. This month Audi said it will boost that by another two billion euros ($2.5B US) over the next five years, for a total outlay of 24 billion euros from 2014 to 2019. Something like 70 percent of those billions will be spent on new models, technology like "connectivity and lightweight construction," and factory expansion at its plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm. Most of the ten models that will plump the lineup to 60 cars will mainly be aimed at the C and D segments, as well as crossovers, the brand's burgeoning portfolio of PHEV models, and all-electric cars that will begin staking ground in the segment. The big spend comes at the same time as Audi is working hard to reduce costs by $2.5 billion to maintain profitability, part of a larger push by VW to cut costs by $6.1 billion by 2017. More than a billion euros will go to new factories in Mexico and Brazil. Work begins on the Mexico plant next year, and when it comes on-line in 2016, Audi's Q5 successor will roll out of its warehouse doors; Audi has already announced it will hire 850 more workers next year in Mexico. When that's done, Mexico's production of German luxury cars will only trail that of Germany, China and the US. The company's Brazil plant will produce the A3 and S3 starting next year, and the brand figures luxury car buying there will triple by 2017.
