Our 1983 Vanagon L Westfalia Edition has been in storage a while but we have got it fixed up and ready for the road.  My parents are downsizing and this, unfortunately, is one of things they can no longer use.  The Vanagon has some superficial scratches and minor dents in the passenger side. The interior is almost perfect with a few minor peels on the interior cabinetry.  We could have glued them back but a few of our restoration buddies suggested that the new owner may want to "restick" the cabinetry cover with original VW adhesive.  A small separation is on the upper zipper assembly in the camper section.  These are documented in the images too. The odometer is stuck at 71748 as the connecting apparatus wasn't reconnected properly when we rebuilt the engine.  We have kept track since then and we are right at 80000 miles. Everything else works as intended!

We have everything from the owner's manual to the original ice cube trays in the electric/propane fridge.  VERY clean throughout.  It has all the needed tools to set up the beds and sleep the night away under the stars.  The original forced air furnace is a great engine and still shifts very smoothly.

The newly rebuilt engine runs like a top and still has the same pep as when we got it.

BONUS - Not pictured is the FULL Vehicle cover we also have.  Excellent is you plan on using your Vanagon infrequently.

Translogic 168: CES 2015 Roundup

Wed, Jan 14 2015

Translogic and the yearly CES glorious gadget geekout go together like digital peanut butter and high-def jelly. At this year's show, surrounded by an egg-shaped Mercedes-Benz concept and the re-introduction of, of all things, the Sony Walkman, we had some fun. Between talking with Volkswagen about its new gesture-control tech and flying some video drones, we squeezed in some time to shred on ZBoard's new electric skateboard. The future is now. Last VW bus ever made arrives at final destination

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

A Brazilian politician tried to save it, unsuccessfully, so the final Last Edition Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi was produced on December 20, 2013 and now resides in a vintage museum at Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles HQ in Hanover, Germany.
The Volkswagen Microbus was built for 56 years, starting in September 1957. Brazil was the last country still assembling it, but new safety regulations in the country requiring airbags and ABS on all cars spelled the end. When that politician introduced a bill that would pardon only the 'Bus from a death sentence, it couldn't garner the required number of votes for passage. The South American country takes the Kombi production title, though, with 1.5 million of the 3.5 million total made in the home of Copacabana beach and the girl from Ipanema.
The VW Bus is dead. Now perhaps we can turn our attentions to the still-not-totally-settled matter of the Bulli...

Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.
