Up for auction is my 1980 Vanagon Westfalia.  It is a "project" vehicle, and I am selling because my wife just had twins, therefore leaving me no time to finish.  Disclaimer-If you have NO expectations, then you won't be disappointed!  This van needs a lot of time and attention to be nice again.

I spent most of my time and money on the engine.  It starts, runs, drives very well, BUT I would recommend a trailer to get it home since the tank leaks when it's topped off.

The fuel pump relay doesn't function, so I installed a toggle switch to activate it.

Engine:  New pistons, new rings, new heads, new injectors, new plugs, new wires, new coil, new electronic ignition, had alternator professionally rebuilt, new belt.  Starts and runs really well.

Transmission:  replaced leaking seals

Body:  Very amateur (me!) paint and body work.  Lots of bondo in rust holes on rocker panels, terrible paint job.  Looks great at 60 mph, but not when you are standing next to it.  Removed all the windows before painting and replaced with all new window seals (except for the windshield, which is cracked and only held in place with an adhesive/sealant...although I have the seal for it, just never installed it on the bad windshield)

Interior:  It is complete (except passenger seat; missing] but mainly gutted, and I have everything that I removed.

Tires:  new

Gas tank:  leaks when full, and fuel gauge doesn't work.

Top;  repainted

Tent;  original

Fri, Sep 23 2022

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd. With the Detroit Auto Show now in the rearview, focus shifts to news that crept up outside of the North American spotlight. The two talk about the new Ferrari Purosangue SUV, then pivot to a discussion about the future of the Dodge Charger and Challenger based on rumors of a new assembly facility. Next, they discuss what they've been driving recently. Byron leads off with anecdotes from his trip to Spain to drive the 2023 Range Rover Sport and his weekend with the VW GTI SE. Next, Greg talks about the ups and downs of the BMW X3 M Competition and Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Coupe. After that, they spend your money; this week's is a whopper.   Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back

Tue, Mar 10 2015

The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
