1980 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Camper in very good & complete condition.

A "Westy" is one of the best all around campers you can find for both winter and summer fun. Double bunks in an upper loft and below. Stove, sink and refrigerator. Tons of storage.

Chassis has 180,000 miles but engine has had a past rebuild (at unknown mileage). Recent professional service included new fuel lines, spark plugs, air flow meter adjustment, and 2x new batteries. Shifts and drives well.
Good tires & locking gas cap.

Assuan brown paint has been resprayed & is in good condition. Only minor flaws and NO RUST!

Excellent glass all around. 2x power chargers for personal electronics.

Interior in good condition. All drawers and cabinet doors shut well.
Headlights, taillights, wipers all work well.

In dash stereo & CD radio, 2x table tops, loft ladder & original jack.

New blackout curtains all around.

Full summer screens for both front door windows, rear hatch area, and side door allow for breezy comfort.

New additions include:
  • Rubber seals around fiberglass top front & rear.
  • Front grille
  • Rear side marker reflectors
  • Front indicator light lenses
  • Rear hatch support struts
  • Interior rear view mirror
  • Bumper caps (one to be installed)
  • Hookup covers (to be installed)

Extras I'm including:

  • Front rubber mats
  • Large rear rubber mat
  • Exterior shoe cleaning mat
  • Campfire tripod, grill, and fire starters
  • Box of clean pots/pans/tray/utensils/cutting board/egg holder
  • Camping hatchet

  • Car organizer (mounts on rear of passenger seat)

Minor flaws to note:

  • Rear seat top has one small repaired tear around 1" long, and there is a bit of candle wax on the lower seat as well.
  • There are a few small repairs on the canvas top and one on the top's screen. Otherwise very good condition.
  • Engine drips a little oil - like all air cooled engines.
  • Propane tank may need to be refilled.
  • I have not tested the appliances but was told they all work by previous owner.

This is a very nice Westy that's ready to enjoy. Please check out my 100% positive feedback and ask any questions. I'm also happy to talk via phone if you prefer. Just message me your number and I'll call.

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.

VW confirms Golf GTD diesel coming to US for 2016

Wed, 03 Jul 2013

Part of the Volkswagen Golf recipe that has helped the car sell more than 30 million units in just under 40 years is the number of variants in which the hatchback is offered. Building on that range here in the US, Automotive News is reporting that we will finally be getting the sporty Golf GTD, likely as a 2016 model. It's the GTD, you'll recall, that crosses the performance abilities of the venerable GTI with a powerful and fuel-efficient diesel engine.
After speaking with Andreas Valbuena, Volkswagen product manager for the Golf, AN not only says that the GTD will for sale in the US in a couple years, it also estimates a baseline price of around $27,000, which would place it between the current pricing for the GTI and the Golf R. The GTD is launching in Europe this summer, but we won't be getting the seventh-generation Golf in the US for another year. The news about the performance diesel model isn't entirely unexpected - VW officials have been hinting at it for at least a year now, going so far as to import a sixth-generation model for media test drives on US soil, a task we happily took them up on last year.
The Mk VII GTD uses VW's 2.0-liter TDI engine with output increased to 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to sprint to 60 miles per hour in about seven seconds while returning more than 40 mpg in highway driving. We can't wait.

Are more diesel scandals about to erupt?

Fri, Nov 20 2015

More automakers may soon be embroiled, like Volkswagen, in diesel emissions scandals. According to the Daily Kanban, either the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) or the Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) will soon announce from 10 to 15 more cases of automakers cheating national diesel emissions rules. The outlet says three of the incidents are attributed to Opel. Studies conducted by the DUH, the University of Applied Sciences in Bern, Switzerland, and the UK's Leeds University found that Opel's diesel Zafira, Corsa, and Vectra models emit more NOx than European regulations allow when tested in ways that go beyond the European testing protocol, such as when done on a four-wheel rolling road instead of a two-wheel rolling road. Opel said the accusations had no merit. Specifically on the Zafira, the DUH asked Opel about the emissions findings, and Opel said that no General Motors software contains any measures to enable cheating. Opel then tested a Zafira of its own "both on a two- and a four-wheel roller dynamometer," finding that "The emission behavior determined in each case does not differ from one another." That makes this a case of he-said-she-said for the moment. The Daily Kanban's sources say the cheating methods "range from the crude to the highly sophisticated," with those at the latter end complex enough to render Volkswagen's methods "pedestrian." As for any automakers who might be named, the matter of real-world emissions exceeding a legal limit doesn't mean a carmaker has designed systems that cheat, it might mean the company designed the car to pass a test.
