This 79 Camper was recently pulled out of a retired VW Mechanics shop where it has sat on his lift since 1997. About 10 years ago he pulled the motor and had the heads rebuilt after dropping a valve on the freeway. The bottom end of the motor was rebuilt by him about 8,000 miles before that. Looking at the motor the heads look NEW but the motor case is a little dirty and you can tell that it has had some mile on it since it was rebuilt. He never finished the install and has not fired since he put it back together. We finished the install, replaced some fuel lines, flushed the tank several times until we weren't getting any more junk out of it, replaced the battery, put on new german factory exhaust and she fired right up. We also replaced the tires and refinished the wheels while the tires were off. We sent off a few cushions on the inside and had them reupholstered using the original fabric from the back bed cushion and had it recovered with matching vinyl. The entire interior was cleaned meticulously including pulling the rear seat and pressure washing the carpet. The carpet does show signs of wear and an all weather carpet mat was cut and installed over the original carpet. The bus shows 33,000 on the odometer which I am told is really 133,000 miles. The interior has some scuffs here and there and some of the paneling is cracked but all in all it is very clean and everyone who sees it is amazed that it is all original. All of the T-molding on the edges of tables and cabinets was replaced but we couldn't locate the smaller T-molding where the cabinets come together so there is some molding that is a little warped from age. A new PGW windshield was installed along with a new rubber gasket. Front mat was removed as were the front seats and everything scrubbed, cleaned and waxed. The tent top is in great shape with some marks and scuffs. The bug screen has a couple of small holes but is very nice. The exterior of the bus was completely rubbed out using a heavy cut cleaner and waxed. There are a couple of small dents and dings that can be seen in the pics. Very little rust on this bus with the exception of the rear wheel wells, 2 holes in the battery tray the size of a quarter and a couple of small rust spots in the doglegs. There were several spots on the surface of the paint that had bad rust spots and when these were polished out we had to rub through the paint into the primer but they are not noticeable from 5 to 10 feet away. This bus drives very nice. Brakes work great but just today it developed a squeak in the right front. I plan to pull the wheel and clean the pads as the pads and rotors look new. This bus is original paint with the exception of the nose. It was painted years ago and is slightly off on color. The bumpers have also been repainted with white semi gloss single stage. I haven't checked any of the plumbing to see if it works and I have NOT fired the stove. Checking the plumbing and propane fittings will be left up to the new owner. This thing has a SWEET tape deck, amp, and 8 speakers. Sounds Great for as old as it is. Sold AS IS, WHER IS. Will be happy to meet your shipper. I have put about 500 miles on this bus in the last week and have had zero problems with it except for a squeak or two from the right front brake pads. Email or call with questions. Thanks Jeremy (208)200-6053

Italian investigators search Lambo headquarters in VW probe
Thu, Oct 15 2015Italian investigators searched Lamborghini headquarters on Oct. 15 to look for evidence of managers' involvement in Volkswagen's emissions cheating. VW's main office in Verona was also inspected, according to Reuters. Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagen, and Lambo in turn is listed as the owner of VW Group Italia. Authorities wanted to find out if employees were conscious that the vehicles were skirting emissions rules. "It is one thing if I sell water and pretend it's wine, but if I sell water believing it is wine it's different." Verona chief prosecutor Mario Giulio Schinaia said to Reuters. Italian newspaper Gazetta del Sud reported that several managers in Italy were under investigation for alleged fraud. Prosecutors in Germany have also been rigorously investigating VW, and they recently staged a similar raid on the company's headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. The automaker reportedly turned over documents and other data relating to the software defeat device. Meanwhile, VW's internal investigation has turned up little wrongdoing, though a recent leak suggested otherwise, and at least 30 managers could have known about the defeat device. The automaker has disputed that figure. Volkswagen of America CEO Michael Horn testified before Congress that he believed only a few individuals were involved. The situation hasn't been easy on VW in the US, either. The Department of Justice has also been pursuing an investigation into the automaker. Plus, state attorneys general are filing lawsuits against the company for defrauding customers. VW has until Nov. 20 to explain a repair for the problem to the California Air Resources Board. Wagons make a bit of a comeback, with new models, sales on the rise
Thu, Jan 10 2019Consider this an official invitation to hop on the wagon bandwagon. There's still tons of room because, well, it's a wagon (and market share is still extremely small). But according to new data, the segment is growing. According to a report from Bloomberg, using data from Edmunds.com, roughly 211,600 Americans purchased wagons in 2018. That is technically down from the 237,600 sold in 2017, but wagon sales in the U.S. are up 29 percent from where they were five years ago. It's also the third year in a row that wagon sales broke the 200,000 mark. The sales trends have been somewhat representative of the availability of wagons. New models have debuted during the past 5 years and therefore offer more opportunity at more brands to buy wagons. In addition to more modest cars such as the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen, several luxury and performance brands are offering wagons today, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo and Buick. (Bloomberg's headlines make the point that "crossovers are for the Kardashians," and wagons are just, well, classier.) This uptick in brand-name availability, as well as extremely well-executed design on most of the wagons currently available, has helped increase the segment's desirability. That, and its ability to better accomplish the same tasks at hand while standing out from the crossover and SUV crowd. Still, the posted numbers represent a small fraction of the total vehicles sold. According to the data, wagons only held a 1.4 percent market share in 2017, the segment's best recent year. Wagons hold a steadfast place in America's past, and they're writing an interesting new story. With the downturn in traditional cars, they may continue to create an unexpected narrative. Volkswagen formally introduces super-efficient XL1
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Lightweight and low drag are hallmarks of great sportscar design. But when paired with a super-efficient, hybrid powertrain, you have the Volkswagen's XL1 that has been formally introduced in Geneva today.
When the 1,700-lb, carbon-fiber-bodied two-seater hits the road, its claimed 261 miles per gallon will make it the world's most-fuel-efficient production car. Though "production car" might be a stretch since VW said in a February press release that the XL1 would be built using "handcrafting-like production methods." We translate that to mean you won't be seeing many of these cars on the road. Though no one at VW has mentioned pricing yet, early rumors suggested a six-figure price tag.
That's supercar budget for a vehicle that has a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.
