This Bus is in great condition especially for the year. It is mostly original except the interior has been partially redone and the stove and sink have been removed and the stereo is aftermarket. Its was repainted (the original color) some years back and still looks good. I'm going to give you details about everything I can. I will also supply detailed photos of everything important.
The Exterior: The bus is in great shape. It has spent most of its life in New Mexico in the desert and has no significant rust since its been in a very dry climate. It was painted by the previous owner about 7 years ago from what I am told. It was repainted the original color so the door jams and interior paint match up well. There are small imperfections, dents and scratches but nothing significant or easily noticeable. This bus is almost 40 years old and in amazing condition for the age. It has been stored inside since I've had it except the last 6 months has been stored outside because I moved and don't have a garage anymore ( this is the reason I'm selling her). All the glass is intact and the door open and close with ease. All the locks work with the same key but one the drivers lock is not working right now. The key turns in the lock but it doesn't seem to be connected to the lock itself. I think it would be an easy fix and I'll look at it and edit this add if i can. The interior: This interior looks really nice. Its has been modified from the original interior. The stove and sink have been remover and a wood floor has been installed. The seats have been reupholstered except the bed in the pop up which is in really good shape. This canvas on the pop top is whole but is brittle from sun on the side. I didn't replace it because it's fully functional but will eventually need to be replaced. A really nice stereo has been installed with new speakers in the front and back (i haven't wired in the back speakers but have all the necessary parts to complete the job. This stereo also plays dvd but you need to put a monitor somewhere. The kick panel in the front have also been replaced by the last owner but doesn't fit as well as the original but looks okay. The inside of the glove compartment is missing but the door is whole and works fine. The Engine: The engine is the flat 4 Cylinder 2.0 Liter that I believe is original. It runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. There is a sound that only occurs when the transmission is disengaged which I had a transmission mechanic to look at. He said that eventually I should replace the clutch and throw bearing if the sound gets any worst. He told me it's fine to drive and it not damaging my transmission. There is a secondary battery but Is dead and disconnected and have no idea how or if it functions. I just run the regular battery and leave the secondary untouched. The mileage listed is as stated on gauge but turns over at 100K so I would assume its 131k but really no idea. The Good: The bus is in great shape and could be easily restored into a show car or left as a daily driver or used for camping trip. It doesn't have any significant rust which is remarkable for it age but it seem the ocean or many salty roads. It drives and shifts better that any other bus I've ever driven. They all seem to be a little finicky but this one it really straight forward and relatively easy to drive. Everything functions well and could be a everyday driver the day of purchase. The light and turn signals works as they should. The glass is all good. there is really nothing that would prevent daily driving. The Bad: This is a 37 year old vehicle so not everything look brand new. There are small imperfection in the interior and exterior. The emergency lights don't work and I have no idea why and have never tried to fix. The canvas and clutch will need to be replaced but could be fine for a few years. It needs seals put on the Pop top and there is a crack in the corner which is shown in the pictures. This bus does have room for improvement but is in amazing condition given the age. I have set what I think is a low reserve for the vehicle. I can be reached @ 773-218-1911 if you have any questions. |

VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs
Sat, 01 Mar 2014Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular
Wed, Sep 3 2014A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015. Andretti Autosport partners with Volkswagen for Global Rallycross season
Tue, 14 Jan 2014Michael Andretti and Volkswagen have both been involved in Global Rallycross for a couple of years, but not together. Andretti Motorsports Marketing organized the final round of the 2012 GRC series in Las Vegas, and there were rumors then that Andretti was going to get in. Around the same time there were news reports that Volkswagen was preparing a 600-hp Polo Mk5 to race in the SuperCar class; the photo above is racer Anton Marklund in his privateer Marklund Motorsports Polo at the 2013 X-Games round in Los Angeles.
Now it's official: Andretti Autosport will campaign the 2014 GRC season with VWs. That's all that's been said for now, Andretti being busy at the moment launching four entries for IndyCar, two for Indy Lights and two for Pro Mazda. We have a feeling we'll be seeing the MkVII Golf involved, but the cars and the driver lineup will be presented at the Chicago Auto Show on February 6.
