This 1975 Bay Window Type II VW Bus was professionally restored (although not to perfection) in 2009/2010 with the intent of being used as a promotional vehicle by the West Michigan Whitecaps (A-Level Baseball team located in Grand Rapids Michigan and primary affiliate of the Detroit Tigers). While it did serve a short stint for its desired purpose, it soon found itself parked behind the outfield fence and more or less forgotten.

The receipts for the work done, both body and mechanical, are in the link that contains all of the photos, including during the restoration process, which can be found here: https://plus.google.com/photos/113272028201348840087/albums/5965886971169439217

You will see that over $6,500 was spent to restore this bus! You will also find a plethora of current photos showing the condition of the bus.

Most of the significant rust was cut out and new metal welded in place. The only areas that it appears that was not done are the front step pads (they have filler in them) and the undercarriage behind both front wheels. There are areas of bubbling occurring on the bus. All of these areas are photographed.

The paint on this bus is phenomenal, and it could be argued that it is nicer than the factory paint job. The exception would be that the window seals (which are weathered but not leaking) were taped and there is some overspray on them. The West Michigan Whitecaps logo and a "flying baseball" have been hand painted on both sides of the bus, and was done very well.

The interior of the bus is unique, and you will not find another like it! It has quad bucket seats, all donated from a Dodge Caravan, and are in good condition with no tears or burns, and they are protected with custom Whitecaps seat covers. The fronts ride on the original bus tracks and move and lock; the rears are bolted to the floor; all 4 seats have seatbelts. The shifter is a baseball, and the rear carpet and some of the side panels are grass carpet (original door panels are included, but are in rough shape). There is a table base installed (needs a top) and 6x9's have been added behind the rear bucket seats and are fed by an aftermarket CD player. The dash and front door panels are in decent condition. All of the glass is crack-free, and the jalousy windows are working.

The 109 cid (1786 cc) pancake motor is believed to be the original, but the fuel injection system has been replaced with an Empi carburator. The motor runs fantastic: starts right up, idles fine, accelerates as it should, and does not blow smoke. The receipts in the link to the photos shows the work done. The transmission shifts great and does not pop out of gear and the clutch is strong. The tires do not all match, but do have decent tread, hold air and are 100% road worthy. This bus runs and drives very well!

As a licensed Michigan dealer, it is my responsibility to collect sales tax (if applicable), and if you are a Michigan resident, to also collect plate and registration fees. If you are outside of Michigan or the United States, sales tax still may apply, and any additional fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Transportation is also the buyer's responsibility and expense.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end and unless otherwise agreed, is to be paid via PayPal. The balance is to be paid within 7 days in cash or check; the bus nor the title will be released until all funds have cleared.

This bus has been accurately described, and is sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied.

Cost-cutting measures put VW Beetle in jeopardy

Tue, Mar 10 2015

Volkswagen is on a mission to cut costs. That means producing more models across its various brands based on the same platforms and powertrains, but the latest word from Germany has it that it will also mean cutting some of the VW brand's less successful models. First on the chopping block, according to German publication Der Spiegel, is the three-door version of the Polo, which will reportedly cede its place to the five-door version exclusively. The elimination of that model alone is said to save VW a good 200 million euros, putting it on its way towards reducing the brand's costs by a targeted five billion euros. The Polo isn't the only one in danger, though. The Eos, as we know, is not due to be replaced, but the future of the Beetle could be in jeopardy as well. The Beetle may be one of VW's most iconic models, but is hardly its most successful in terms of sales. With the 2014 annual report due to be released shortly, the last full-year sales figures had Volkswagen selling 109,517 Beetles in 2013. That may be more than four times the number of Scirocco models it sold, but hardly puts a dent in the 871,413 Jettas, 824,629 Golfs and 725,291 Polos it sold during the same year.

Volkswagen bringing new Touran minivan to Geneva

Wed, Feb 25 2015

Volkswagen is bringing a wealth of new metal to the Geneva Motor Show this year. Unfortunately little if any of it is ever likely to reach American shores. There's the new Passat Alltrack, the Golf GTD Variant and a trifecta of new vans: the facelifted Caddy, the revised Sharan and this, the new Touran. Smaller than the Sharan, the Touran is Germany's top-selling minivan and boasts over 1.9 million units sold to date. It was introduced to the VW passenger van lineup in 2003 and was replaced in 2010 with an all-new model. What you're looking at here is the third-generation Touran, based on VW's ubiquitous new MQB architecture. Most obvious is the new sheet metal that makes it look sharper and more in step with the rest of the German automaker's lineup compared to the model it replaces. But there's more to the new Touran than its skin. It's also nearly five inches longer, with most of that length added in the wheelbase to give it a more commodious cabin that's also been updated with the latest equipment and offers room for up to seven passengers. Despite the larger size, it's a good 136 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, so it promises better performance in both its driving dynamics and its environmental credentials. Prospective customers (in markets where the Touran is sold) will be able to choose from a range of three gasoline and three diesel engines ranging from 108 horsepower up to 187, burning as much as 19 percent less fuel than the outgoing model's lineup thanks to features like stop/start engine management and brake force regeneration. There's even a sporty R Line package to give it a little visual aggression. For better or worse, though, the US market will almost certainly be left out: reached for comment, our source at VW USA pointed out that the Touran and Sharan aren't big enough to fill the shoes left by the Routan - but that the upcoming three-row crossover will. Volkswagen presents the new Touran - Germany's best-selling MPV completely redeveloped - More room; smart new design - New engines up to 19 per cent more economical Volkswagen presents the new Touran. The completely redesigned MPV was showcased before an audience of international media representatives at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, not far from the production site where the popular family car is made. The interior of the new model has undergone a significant increase in size and is highly configurable.

VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives

Tue, Dec 23 2014

Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli
