Fair Oaks, California, United States
1974 Volkswagen Transporter window passanger bus. Make it what you want- A cruiser to the beach, surfer bus, art bus, family camper, a daily driver, Needs a loving home. This is a great chance to own a vintage bus that you can easly make it what you want. It has been owned by a old man for the past 20+ years, and now it has been owned by my 67 year old dad. Since my father bought it unfortunately he has stopped driving it. It has been sitting for about a year. I put fresh oil in it and new fuel and charged the battery on 12-07-13. It starts right up and goes in all gears and breaks good. But it does need some tlc. The Bad- To be honest I will describe the bus best to my ability but it is sold as-is and how it is. The bus is sold with current 2014 reg from California and a clear title. It needs to be towed bcs it has set for a year and it needs tlc.. 1-it needs tune up bcs the dual carbs back fire etc 2-needs some interior cleaning and needs all new seat coverings because they are torn up. See photos. 3-needs little adds and ends just like any old vw, for example radio is not working and needs a new one, 30 year old car that needs to be restored to look and run like new if that is what you want. 4-only has ignition key so it needs door key, but it is easy to rekey bcs one key opens and closes all the locks etc. My dad only had one key for the ignition bcs he never locked it. 5-Car paint is not perfect it has little dings etc, most buses have rust all over but this one is nice and dry. It does have some surface rust (including one spot on driver floor where their is a little hole). See All pics to evaluate condition for your self.
The Great- 1-2.0 litter engine that should go 75 mph with out a problem when tuned etc... ( not sure of the mileage but the prior owner said engine was rebuilt and now it has approx 30 to 40k miles on it. Has pancake style engine just like in a Porsche 914. 2-Bus is yellow and white - and the paint looks great but it is 30 years old. 3-Great start for a dream bus. Floors are good, bus has all bumpers and even the battery tray is solid. 4-All windows are good, doors open and close good, sliding door is great. 5-Stops and goes in all gears, well the transmission with axels was rebuilt about a year ago. 6- Has rear seat that you can take out and sleep in the bus or make it what you want, all seats really need to be recovered. Door panels are okay but it all needs a little love. 7-Well this is your chance to own a great bus project that can be a daily driver easly. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL ME AND SEE THE BUS BEFORE BIDDING OR ANY QUESTIONS ARE OKAY. THE BUYER MUST REALIZE THAT THE BUS IS 30+ YEARS OLD AND IS SOLD AS-IS. $500 DEPOSIT IS DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF PURCHASE VIA PAYPAL ETC. Former Audi chief designer Wolfgang Egger leaves Italdesign
Sat, Dec 27 2014The latest word from the international community of automotive designers has it that Wolfgang Egger is leaving Italdesign, but just where the accomplished designer will land next and who will take his place remain big question marks. Egger is a designer who has bounced back and forth between Italy and Germany over the course of his career. He was born in Germany but studied in Milan. He began his career at Alfa Romeo in 1989 and was named its chief designer by 1993 before being head-hunted by the Volkswagen Group in 1998 to head up the design department at Seat. A few years later he went returned to Italy to run the Lancia design department, and was subsequently renamed to the same post at Alfa Romeo. In 2007 he went back to his native Germany to head up the Audi design office, over which he assumed complete responsibility by 2012, but left Audi in 2013 to run Italdesign. For those unfamiliar, Italdesign is the studio founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro (pictured at left next to Egger) back in 1968 but which, along with many other Italian design houses, fell on hard times in recent years. The Volkswagen Group swooped in to rescue the troubled studio in 2010, turning it into something of an in-house advanced design department to provide an alternative perspective on the direction in which the group and its various brands could take their respective designs moving forward. With Egger now leaving its helm, Italdesign and its German parent company will need to find his replacement, and we're sure they'll announce one in due course. The bigger question on our minds, however, is where Egger himself will head next. Given the path his career has taken to date, we wouldn't be surprised to see him land elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group or find a new role in the expanding Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire. Then again, Egger could find it time to open an entirely new chapter. Watch this space. VW, Suzuki mulling rekindling relationship in face of legal battle
Sat, 27 Jul 2013Volkswagen and Suzuki have been undergoing marriage counseling in a bid to avoid finalizing their nasty divorce. The blissful union has been troubled for some time, with Volkswagen claiming that it could affect operational decisions at Suzuki, and the Japanese brand's sniping and constant flirting with a certain Italian temptress causing rifts.
The matter first went to court in 2012, when Suzuki demanded VW get out, and leave its 19.9-percent stake in the Japanese brand in a box to the left. Now, Automotive News is reporting that the company will give the relationship one last shot, according to closed-door dealings between the two in London.
Still, it's understood that VW and Suzuki recognize the benefit of their alliance, and that it'd be in the best interests of the kids both parties to make things work. Spokespeople declined to comment to AN, but the newsmagazine spoke with Frank Biller, an analyst for LBBW in Stuttgart, who said, "Both companies stand to benefit if they can overcome the disagreements over leadership claims."
United States drivers buying fewer Mexican-made cars
Tue, May 10 2016Crossovers and pickup trucks are not only growing in market share, they're also more profitable than cars. A crossover on the same platform as a sedan retails for thousands more, despite similar components. It's one of the reasons we've seen automakers rapidly shifting production of their sedans and hatchbacks to Mexico, where cheap labor preserves the thin profit margins on these inexpensive vehicles. But as the market continues to shift in the United States, Mexico is getting burned by its lack of product diversity. The country's auto exports, which are heavy on cars, suffered a 16-percent drop last month, Automotive News reports. In total, year-over-year exports fell from 233,515 to 197,020 last month, while year-to-date exports are down by 7.4 percent, from 922,029 to 854,118. The number one culprit? America – which usually accounts for 75 percent of Mexico's exports – and its appetite for crossovers and pickup trucks bolstered by cheap gas prices. While Mexico does build some light truck models – AN specifically calls out the Ram 2500, Honda HR-V, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tacoma as export leaders – the vast majority of vehicles rolling out of its factories are sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, the three biggest drops in Mexican exports came from companies whose south of the border factories only build cars – Ford (Fusion/Lincoln MKZ and Fiesta), Mazda (Mazda3), and Volkswagen (Golf and Jetta). Mexican Automotive Industry Association President Eduardo Solis told AN the export shortfall will likely be sorted out sooner rather than later, thanks to a pair of new factories – a Kia car factory and an Audi SUV plant – that are coming online by year's end. The two facilities will add around 100,000 vehicles to the country's export totals, which Solis said should leave the industry on the verge of breaking another export record in 2016. But how sustainable will these record-breaking years be? Slapping an "Hecho en Mexico" sticker on a new German SUV won't be enough to change the fact that Mexico's product mix is tilted too heavily towards body styles that are not growing in volume. Mexico's record-breaking export years probably aren't at an end, but we'd argue they're certainly under threat.
