1974 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van Vw Poptop 2.0 Liter Automatic Runs & Drives on 2040-cars
Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States
Up for auction today we have a 1974 Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile. This bus had the engine rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago and was then parked due to leaky heat exchangers. The engine is very clean and looks to be fairly fresh. When the engine was rebuilt it was upgraded to a 2.0 Liter. We recently had all the fuel lines replaced and the carbs rebuilt. The bus starts right up and runs good once its warm. The battery has also been replaced within the last 30 days. The brakes work well but have not been gone through by us. The front has disc brakes and the rears are drums. The interior on this bus is in very respectable condition. We sent it to a professional detail shop right after we got it and it cleaned up very nice. The upper bunk area pads are missing but the rest of the interior is there. The canvas top has some holes in it as shown in the photos where mice chewed through the top. The curtain rods and curtains are there but are not shown in the photos. The curtains are in OK shape but have some holes and water stains. The gas gauge is not currently working. The front rubber floor mat is also missing. The bus has the matching footstool and childs cot that mounts over the front seats. This is a running driving project that still needs some work to be nice. There is a fair amount of rust in the outer rocker panels but the floors and structure of the frame are solid. Take a good look at the photos as we have tried to photograph the good, the bad and the ugly. Should be no surprises on this one. The heat exchangers on this bus seem to be leaking. We attempted to hook up the heater but there was a lot of exhaust coming in with the heat. There is also a lot of smoke that seems to be coming up through the air inlet when the bus is stopped. I believe this smoke is coming from the leaks in the heat exchangers. We haven't tested any of the camper accessories. Bid with confidence and bid to win. We are happy to help on our end with International buyers but shipping costs and arrangement are the responsibility of the buyer. We realize it may take a couple weeks to arrange your shipping and can store the bus inside our warehouse until you get your shipping worked out. Thanks for checking out our auction and good luck bidding. Check below for a youtube video tour of the bus. Please feel free to call with any questions you have about the bus. Jeremy. Autoweek dubs GMC Canyon, VW GTI its 2015 'Best of the Best'
Wed, Dec 17 2014For kids around the globe, tis the season for Santa, reindeer and presents. For the automotive industry, the last quarter of each year is reserved for awards, whether they come from Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, or yes, Autoblog. The latest to get released comes from our friends at Autoweek. The magazine has echoed other outlets, naming a Volkswagen hatchback and a small pickup from General Motors as its Best of the Best. Unlike Motor Trend, which handed out its golden calipers to the Chevrolet Colorado and Volkswagen Golf range, Autoweek doled out its awards to the Colorado's twin, the GMC Canyon, while singling out the hottest version of the Golf, the GTI. "This is the best hot-hatch on the American market – and it may be the best car you can buy for less than $30K," one AW staffer said in the publication's article on the feature. Other staffers praised the absolute value provided by the GTI and the overall fun factor. The Canyon, meanwhile, was saluted for being "the perfect size," not to mention its excellent build quality, feature-rich cabin and overall practicality. "It's truly a truck in the most honest sense of the word," Autoweek wrote of the Canyon. Scroll down for the full press release on the announcement from Autoweek, which includes comments from both Volkswagen and GMC. And then head over and read AW's full feature on the awards. Autoweek names Best of the Best/Car and Truck for 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI and GMC Canyon signal a strong year for design, performance and value DETROIT, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Autoweek named the Volkswagen Golf GTI as its Best of the Best/Car for 2015, beating a group of finalists that includes the Alfa Romeo 4C, Ford Mustang and Mercedes-Benz C-class; and the GMC Canyon as its Best of the Best/Truck for 2015, besting the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado, Lincoln MKC and Porsche Macan. Autoweek evaluates every new or significantly updated model throughout the year and begins to identify the standouts. Performance, economy, fit and finish, design, value, significance to the auto industry and personal taste all combine to define the Best of the Best. Four cars and four trucks make the grade, and Autoweek editors put them through rigorous road-handling tests at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. This is where a vehicle transcends the numbers and shows if design, performance and pure driving passion meld into an Autoweek Best of the Best pick.
Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid
Thu, 20 Dec 2012Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."
Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires
Mon, 11 Mar 2013There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.
