1974 Volkswagen Riviera Pop Top Camper Bus

Complete camper with sink, propane stove, 2-way refrigerator, fold down bed and sleeping loft. Runs well, drives nicely and is in generally good condition for being 40 years old. Body and paint are generally straight and clean with some exceptions. No smog required.

Please read the entire ad and see photos and video at bottom.

Sold as is with no warranty.

Interior

·       Cabinetry in good working condition with signs of normal wear and tear including chipping and scratches. Cabinetry has several small areas where some swelling and de-lamination has occurred from moisture. Counter surface under stove top has been replaced.

·       Fold out dining table and two fold out counter surfaces all work.

·       Fold down bench seat has been recovered in blue - brown plaid material and shows signs of normal wear and fading. Fabric is thin and not a true upholstery fabric.

·       Fresh water tank, faucet and sink all work well.

·       Propane stove works but shut off valve on tank leaks and needs replaced.

·       Two-way refrigerator works in both 120v AC and 12v DC modes.

·       New brown carpeting in rear camper area.

·       Yellow pop top canvas is in good condition with no tears. Zippers all work. Screens have several holes ranging in size from small to roughly 12”.

·       Both rear sliding windows work and both screens are in good condition with one of them having a few small holes.

·       Front seats appear to be original upholstery but have several tears and much of the cushioning material in the passenger seat is missing.

Rust under drivers side floor mat.

·       Curtains are missing

·       No radio and no speakers

·       Missing passenger visor.

·       Cabin headliner has several tears.

·       Missing cabin light.

·       Passenger and driver door panels are new.

Exterior

·       Body is in overall good condition with a few exceptions. Orange paint is generally intact and shiny throughout. There are several small areas of rust and bubbling; most notably near left rear fender.

·       Front end has damage behind spare tire. See video at 4 minutes 30 seconds.

·       Rubber is generally good throughout with the exception of the two front passenger and driver windows where it needs replaced.

·       New spare tire. I have not changed the other four tires. They are at least 8 years old. Three have good tread, one is marginal.

·       Front bumper is nice and straight. Rear bumper has some dents.

Mechanical

·       Drives well. Engine and transmission run well and shift smoothly.

·       No Smog required.

·       I don’t know what size the engine is or if it is original. Single carbureted. Recently tuned up. Engine has good compression.

·       Has a new fuel sending unit but it ranges from half-full to empty. The important thing is that you’ll know when it’s near empty.

·       New brakes.

·       Turn signals, flashers and head lights work.

·       Both rear side markers do not work.

·       Horn does not work.

·       Ignition key matches sliding door and rear hatch door but does not match driver or passenger door. You can still completely lock the vehicle, but you have to enter through the slider.

·       Vehicle originally equipped with AC. Still has the condenser underneath but it’s missing the blower unit inside.

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver. 2020 Virtual Geneva Motor Show Editors' Picks

Fri, Mar 6 2020

There may not have been an actual Geneva Motor Show this year, but there were still loads of car reveals that happened the week that the show would have happened. So we still wanted to highlight what our favorites of the would-be show. Our list of cars seemed to match the theme of the reveals, too, highlighting over-the-top supercars and forward thinking electric vehicles. Scroll down to see our favorites. Fifth Place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster - 21 points Managing Editor, Greg Rasa: Astons are works of art, and this one's ready for the Louvre. The design nods to Aston history are nifty. It looks like a jet fighter, except those have canopies. Not sure what 186 mph would be like in this, but don't try it in summer when there are bugs. Contributing Editor, Joe Lorio: Admittedly, this one is a little silly. A $950,000 sports car with no roof? A 700-hp two-seater with no windshield? But the offerings at the Geneva auto show have always tilted toward absurdity, and Aston’s V12 Speedster is endearingly outrageous as a fighter plane for the street. Third Place (Tie): Volkswagen ID.4 - 26 points Senior Producer, Chris McGraw: I don't have much to say about this other than I am a huge fan of more EVs coming to the market, which is why two-thirds of my picks are electric, including the ID.4. Producer, Alex Malberg: Any new fully-electric crossover is a vote for me. The fact it doesn't look terrible and VW will be including AWD later are bonuses.  Third Place (Tie): Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA - 26 points Road Test Editor, Zac Palmer: Hard to argue with the logic of this one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is already the best driver in this class of hot sedans, so why not extend the lead with a special model. That wing is Type R levels of high, and I completely approve. Associate Editor, Byron Hurd: Love this car. Love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful, aggressive and fast. I'd take it over an M3 or C63 any day. As cool as the GTAm is, though, I'd rather stick to the four-seat GTA. Something about a four-door car with two seats just doesn't really work for me. I haven't alienated ALL of my friends quite yet. Second Place: Hyundai Prophecy - 35 points Senior Editor, Green, John Snyder: I get whiffs of the Genesis Coupe from this sleek concept. I like the focus on form, with interesting details to discover if you look for them. West Coast Editor, James Riswick: Does it look like a Porsche? Sure, but Porsches look neat.
