This Campmobile was originally bought in the bay area. It was purchased in 1975 by the current owner and brought to New Mexico. The tourist car invoice showing the chassis # and options is included with paperwork, it states:

Chassis- 23 42149961
Campmobile
US Spec
Deluxe camp equip w/elevating roof
Vent windows in drivers compartment
VW Air Conditioner
Yosemite Yellow
Green Blue Cloth Upholstery

A short history from current owner: "This Pop Top was bought in California and driven coast to coast to and across Canada. The first year of ownership, they camped out 90 nights and four people can sleep comfortably. It has propane cooking and a fridge. We had a new engine installed in Anchorage, a larger 1.8L. We also removed a/c compressor and the dual carbs." The engine is a 1.8L with hydraulic lifter and a "009" distributor.

Other features: Removable dinette table, rear bench seat/folding bed, sink, ice box, cooking top, air conditioning (compressor removed), propane tank, sink. Full size spare mounted in front.

It is in good shape and has normal wear and tear from 30+ years of camping. The top canvas has some small tears and should be replaced at some point. The rear seat was reupholstered, but all the other original fabric is in place. The floor was also tiled in the back area. It was repainted here in Albuquerque and does has some minor rust in the drivers side rear wheel well and some cracking in the paint. It runs well, just had a recent timing and carb adjustment, new intake manifold gaskets and boots, tune-up and valve adjustment. The tires are dry rotted and need to be replaced soon.

I have post on YouTube a short video and more pictures of the car running you can see it @ http://youtu.be/iLdLoDgOejQ

Watch the VW E-Golf get made

Fri, Jun 13 2014

If you've ever been on a tour of an automotive factory, you know how mesmerizing it can be to see humans and robots work together to build our four-wheeled friends. The swift automation, the cleanliness, the trained hands deftly fitting pieces together and watchful eyes inspecting every piece of the car, it's all quite impressive, especially if the vehicle is one you, as an observer, are fond of. Even just seeing a fresh, gleaming badge being applied to immaculately painted sheet metal is enough to curl ones toes. Such is the case with this video from of the E-Golf being pieced together in the Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant. There's no narration or music - just the sounds of production - so it's easy to follow the singular motions that go into the process without distraction, with a slight sense of actually being on the floor. This solo video is only seven minutes long, so it's not quite the epic that was the BMW i3 production series. Therefore, we miss a lot of the initial build, such as pressing the sheet metal, painting, and putting together a lot of the inner workings. What is refreshing to see is how much of the final touches of the electric Golf are done by hand using actual hand tools (and with typical German efficiency). There's even a person riding a bicycle through the factory at one point, which is common at Wolfsburg and also rather quaint. Enjoy the video below, and if you have a suggestion for a good soundtrack to go along with it, sound off in the comments. This content is hosted by a third party. Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.

VW looking to MAN up, ditch Mercedes van deal

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Unlike the US, the commercial truck market throughout the rest of the world is chocked full of competitors from many different automakers. Since 2006, Volkswagen has had a fullsize van called the Crafter that was a result of a partnership with Daimler AG and based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This partnership is supposed to last through 2016, but Reuters is reporting that VW might be looking to end its relationship with Daimler and create its own van in cooperation with German truck and bus maker MAN.
The article says that VW AG has more than a 75-percent stake in MAN, which would essentially be keeping the new commercial vehicle in-house. Even if VW bolts, Daimler still has a deal worked out in the commercial truck industry between its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso and Renault-Nissan to supply the other with different trucks.
