I AM LISTING THIS VW VAN FOR MY UNCLE WHO IS NOT COMPUTER SAVVY. I HAVE NEVER LISTED A VEHICLE, I'M DOING THIS AS A FAVOR. AS YOU CAN SEE MY RATING SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. THIS IS A 1973 VW VAN, PURCHASED BY MY UNCLE IN 1975, YES, HE IS THE SECOND OWNER. THIS VEHICLE IS IN NEED OF A TOTAL RESTORATION OR PARTS USE. WHILE I AM A CAR GUY, I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT VW'S. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, I CAN TRY TO ANSWER OR DIRECT YOU TO CALL MY UNCLE, HE WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO TELL ALL THE DETAILS AND MEMORIES DRIVING THIS VAN. THE VAN HAS BEEN PARKED AND OFF THE ROAD FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. THERE IS APPROXIMATELY 150K ON THE VEHICLE. THE MOTOR IS A BANGIN 63HP, YEARS AGO HE REPLACED THE FACTORY SHORT BLOCK THAT CAME DIRECT FROM GERMANY. THE BLOCK HAS 30K MILES AND THE HEADS HAVE 15K MILES. THE HEADS WERE REPLACED AS YOU PROBABLY WOULD KNOW, SO IT CAN RUN ON UNLEADED FUEL VS. LEADED. I KNOW PEOPLE GO NUTS FOR WHATEVER MAKE, MODEL, CAR, TRUCK WHATEVER IS OUT THERE, SO IF YOU WANT TO GIVE THIS VAN A GOOD HOME AS MY UNCLE WOULD HOPE TO SEE, GREAT.

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs
Wed, Nov 29 2017BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. "This will allow Drive Sustainability to identify the most impactful activities to pursue" to address issues within the supply chain.Reporting by Andreas Cremer.Related Video: Image Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez/The Washington Post via Getty Images Green BMW Ford Honda Jaguar Land Rover Mercedes-Benz Automakers Toyota Volkswagen Volvo Green Automakers Green Culture Electric Scania ethics mining
Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
Volkswagen lays off 500 Chattanooga workers
Fri, 19 Apr 2013The redesigned Volkswagen Passat has been a decent seller since its debut in 2011, but sales have apparently dropped off enough that the automaker is trimming some of the employees from its Chattanooga, TN assembly plant. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen will be cutting shifts and laying off 500 contracted workers in response to slowing sales.
Currently, the plant has three teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, but starting May 13, this will be reduced down to two teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday. This will be done to reduce dealer inventory (the article says that VW dealers, on average, have a 97-day supply of Passats) and production capacity (currently running at an annual pace of 170,000 units, which is more than the 150,000 annual units the plant was planned to produce).
This, of course, isn't saying that the Passat has been a failure since VW added 200 full-time employees to the plant in February 2012 to keep up with increased demand. The AN article says that automakers frequently overstaff plants during the launch of a new product - or in this case, a new product and a new plant - but eventually reduce the workers as things run smoother and more efficiently.
