1972 Vw Volkswagen Bus/vanagon Restored- T4 1800cc Motor, Runs & Start Strong on 2040-cars

This was restored with a lot of love and time. Before I list all the things that was done to it, let me discuss my approach as you will see that affects the restoration.
Because parts are so hard to find and this is a 40+ year old car, I tried to repair, store any existing original parts than getting new replacement parts that might not be OEM. In addition, any rust was aggressively sanded off plus I soak the area with RustGone that I bought at an automative paint supplier. This way I know rust will not be a problem. Youtube videos: Exterior: http://youtu.be/DEkFn2IfSHs Interior: http://youtu.be/tJQrc9G0vqM Start/drive: http://youtu.be/N2r3q3xqyxg Items done: Cosmetic/Radio - Brand new 7 year warranty 2-tone paint job by Maco - All flooring and bottom sidings are coating with automative truck-bed lining to seal off any scratches and rusts. It's suppose to be anti-scratch. - After that coat is applied, carpets have been installed on all floor surface - All side panels are brand new - All sidings are brand new - Ceiling is brand new - Brand new upholstery for both front seat and rear seat. - All locks are keyed the same and work properly. All doors lock as needed. - Ignition is keyed to a new ignition key for double security and stronger key (done by AD Buggie) - New radio + speakers (will play MP3s, AUX port in front, LCD screen) - Brand new headlight fixtures (upgrade because old ones are too dim [actually replaced fixture + new bulbs]). - Brand new headlight rims - Brand new turning signals and gasket - Brand new side mirrors - Brand new retractable red seat belt Engine: - T4 motor with simplified/upgraded single carb (easy to change out air filter and service) - All leaks (by replacing seals) are fixed by AD buggie. Your wife will be happy this is done so your driveway stay (fairly) clean. - Motor runs strong and got good torque. I drive up and down the hill every time I go out; no problem with power. - Heat shield in place - Transmission shifts as it should - Extended exhaust chrome (new) tip to avoid carbon build-up on bumper or side of bus - New Alternator - New Regulator - New Starter Electrical: - ALL ELECTRICAL WORKS!!!! Why? Because I spent $800 at a VW auto shop just to re-do all the wiring. Each plug is examined and redone so all electrical works. Yes, ALL! It was a 10 hour job done by PowerHaus in Torrance on Del Amo. Suspension & Tires - Inner & Outer Tie Rods are replaced (and alignment done) - Tension Rod + Ball joint both side replaced - Font shocks replaced - Break-fluid flushed and all break serviced & checked - Tires have excellent tread-ware - Rims are in excellent condition with chrome (actually chrome) hub cabs There are also other smaller things done that I won't mention but you'll see the difference in person. This is my personal car so I am proud of all the work I did (I am not a dealer). Being a 40 year old car, there are things that can still be done to it to make it even better: - Steering wheel can be replaced. It's just old but works just fine. - Front windshield. It is old and got beaten down by the sun overtime. Still ok and drivable. - Rear side window. It has some smear on it that I cannot get off. Still ok and drivable, no physical damage to window actually.. just cosmetic. - If you are doing window, I would replace the window seals as well.. but there's no water leak from these seals so they hold up just fine. - Door molding. The old ones are just old and falling apart.. but the car has such low insulation value and does go fast, there's really no statistical benefit besides cosmetic. - Front windshield wiper blade. Just old. - Small things that I can't think of but being an old car you just have to keep working on the little things... I bring up all these points because I don't want you to find something you didn't expect. I had a buyer who expected me to discount the car because of those points above to an unreasonable price that I simply walked away. Here's the point: if you expect this 40 year old classic car to function and perform like a brand new car with all the features of a modern car, this is not your car and you won't be happy with this car. I have a lot of interest about the car; please try to ask questions pertaining to making a deal. If you are interested in VW Buses in general, go to a forum. VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back
Tue, Mar 10 2015The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
Suzuki and VW finalize their divorce
Thu, Feb 11 2016The rocky divorce between Suzuki and Volkswagen is finally over after working its way through the International Court of Arbitration since 2011, according to the Japan Times. In the final settlement to end the companies' disputes, Suzuki agreed to pay VW an undisclosed amount for not living up to the agreement to use the German automaker's diesel engines. While they won't disclose the exact sum, Suzuki said in a statement that the money "will not have any significant impact" on its 2015 fiscal year results, which will end in March. The arbitration court took the biggest step to end this transcontinental partnership in August 2015 when the body ruled VW needed sell its 19.9-percent stake in Suzuki. However, the Japanese company wasn't entirely off the hook because VW was still allowed to sue for damages over the diesel engine issue. This latest decision finally clears up that dispute. Like most marriages, the union between VW and Suzuki began with stars in both parties' eyes. The Germans paid $2.8 billion to buy 19.9 percent of the Japanese company in December 2009. VW was supposed to get greater access to the auto market in India, and Suzuki hoped to capitalize on access to its partner's advanced technology. By 2011, rumors started percolating that things were contentious behind closed doors. VW allegedly tried to assert control over Suzuki's operations, and the Japanese company reportedly wasn't happy with its access to the German tech. Suzuki even bought diesel engines from Fiat, rather than VW. Later that year, company CEO Osamu Suzuki announced he would end the alliance, and they started working through arbitration. Notification Concerning Resolution of Arbitration by Settlement As Suzuki has reached a settlement regarding the arbitration that Suzuki filed with the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce on 24 November 2011, Suzuki informs you of the following: 1. History from the Request for Arbitration to the Settlement As announced in the "Notification Concerning Arbitration Award" dated 30 August 2015, the Tribunal indicated that it would address the issue of alleged damages arising from Suzuki's breach of the agreement claimed by Volkswagen AG ("VW") in a further stage of the arbitration proceedings. Suzuki reached a settlement with VW in regard to such arbitration proceedings on 10 February 2016. Accordingly, the arbitration proceedings have been concluded. 2.
Volkswagen drops first teaser of next-gen T6 Transporter
Fri, Mar 20 2015The history of Volkswagen's line of boxy Transporter vans goes all the way back to 1950, and the early models' shape likely ranks in fame with the Beetle. VW Commercial Vehicles is now teasing the next step in that legacy with this sketch of the new T6. Judging by this shot, VW is sticking with the van's familiar, square shape. Although this sketch makes the front end look a bit more curvaceous and possibly with a shorter overhang than the current T5. Finding out the truth won't take long because the T6 will debut on April 15, and it will go on sale in the UK by the end of the year. These days the US commercial van segment is rapidly expanding with new models filling the market. Autoblog reached out to VW spokesperson Mark Gillies to find out if the latest Transporter might come across the Atlantic. "LCVs are under consideration, but there are no plans" to bring the T6 to the US at this time, Gillies said. When it made its public debut in 1950, few could have predicted the enormous impact the Transporter would have in revolutionising the commercial vehicle market, creating a timeless automotive icon in the process. Whilst the Transporter has evolved dramatically during that time the philosophy and vision that created the original still holds true. Getting the job done efficiently and reliably has been at the heart of the Volkswagen philosophy for the past 65 years. Its reputation for rugged reliability has endured over the decades to make the Volkswagen Transporter one of the world's best-selling light commercial vehicles. The sixth-generation Transporter will go on sale in the UK later this year. (ends)
