1970 Volkswagen Transporter on 2040-cars
Felton, California, United States
You are bidding on a used, standard 'walk-thru' 1970 VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER. I'm listing for a friend, who has owned it for some time....all 'SERVICE RECORDS' available for the last 12 years. Overall condition is good, nothing fancy....the body has a few small dents, the largest is on the right rear corner. The front end (nose) is good with no major dents, drivers door & passenger door and the sliding door open and close with ease. All glass is in good condition. Drivers side window rolls up & down with no problems, however the passenger side window does not, the handle just spins...so I'm guessing the spline is stripped. All vent windows work. Rear hatch and engine deck lid open and close very well. Both are in good, dent free condition. Both hinges on deck lid are sound, and original spring holds the deck lid up. Rear hatch stays up when opened. All lights work, including turn signals and the back-up lights. The motor is a stock 1500 single port. I'm not sure how many miles are actually on this motor, for the sake of listing this ad, I just entered 75000.0 (you never know with a Volkswagen), however it runs very smooth, quiet and still has plenty of power. 12 volt system. Drum brakes all around, in good condition. The interior is fair, original headliner....front seats are comfortable and come with seat belts, both middle and rear seats are missing, although the seat belts are still present and attached to the floor. Front floor has rust on both sides...the drivers side will eventually need repair. Although this Volkswagen has spent most of it's 'life' in the Santa Cruz, California area, it's very solid, as with just about all vintage Volkswagen's, it has it's share of rust (please see pictures). The cargo floor, has minor rust, no rot out...the frame, jack ports, dog legs all very solid. The top is rust /dent free, drip rails good....Comes with original aluminum belt trim, however the piece above the gas door is missing. All doors, rear hatch and engine lid lock. Both front & rear bumpers firmly attached. Original 15" steel rims, with hub caps...tires are fair, but I would replace. Comes with spare tire and original cover... inside left rear corner This Volkswagen is currently registered and comes with a clear title.
As I stated, I'm listing it for a very nice lady, with a very 'reasonable reserve' as she no longer needs it. I've tried to describe it as best as I could, however I'm sure I missed something....All buyers welcome, overseas included... although I cannot ship this vehicle, I can meet with and assist your shipper. Successful bidder will need to move vehicle with-in one (1) week after purchase. If you need more time, we can talk about it. Storage costs may or may not apply. This vehicle is located in Felton, Santa Cruz county, California. If your local, and would like to see it, I will need to contact the owner for an appointment. Please remember this is a 44 year old Volkswagen..... it's been around the block a few times, so review all the pictures and if you have any questions or would like more pictures, please contact me at: 408 294 9789. Please don't wait until the last day to request additional pictures as I will need to travel. If I'm not home, please leave your name and phone number and I will get back to you. Sincerely, Bruce. |

Recharge Wrap-up: unofficial Tesla ad, VW will produce Budd-e
Fri, Jan 29 2016An unofficial Tesla commercial pays homage to the automaker's namesake. The video, which shows the Model S driving through a dusty, petroleum-addicted landscape reminiscent of a Mad Max film, features words from a speech by electricity-obsessed inventor Nikola Tesla. While Tesla (the man) talks about advancing technology into the future through electricity, the cars surroundings switch from the barren oil village to a green countryside dotted with wind turbines. See the video above, and read more at Treehugger. Famous rapper Akon is a Tesla fan who wants to power Africa with solar energy. Akon, who once boasted a collection of 28 exotic cars, traded them in for four Teslas, including a Model X. Also, his organization Akon Lighting Africa provides free solar electricity and lighting to communities that need it. Clean Technica talked to Akon about solar power, Tesla and EVs in a video. See the video and read more at Clean Technica, and get more perspective from Teslarati. The Volkswagen BUDD-e EV may be moving to production. The electric vehicle, built on the MEB modular platform with looks borrowed from the Microbus, made its debut as a concept vehicle at CES this year. Volkwagen's Dr. Volkmar Tanneberger tells Car magazine, "You will see a car that looks a lot like this, on the MEB platform, reach production. I can't say exactly when, but 2020 or thereabouts." He also says that the California camper van and Transporter van will continue production with internal combustion engines. Read more from Car. The 2017 Kia Soul EV will have more range. While it is scheduled for some minor updates, upping the electric Soul's driving range from its current EPA rating of 93 miles will hopefully attract more customers than a simple facelift. Autocar spied the next Soul EV testing in some heavy camouflage, but it offered no other details about the range beyond its reported expansion. Read more from Plugin Cars.
Top 10 small cars with the longest total driving range
Thu, Mar 19 2015Editor's Note: Since this article was originally posted in the spring of 2015, much has changed in the automotive landscape, especially among those shopping for small car economy. With thanks to Volkswagen for their blatant cheating – and subsequent cover-up – on diesel emissions, the largest player in the diesel passenger car segment isn't playing – they're paying; billions are going for both car buybacks and federally-imposed penalties. And for a few VW execs there exists the very real possibility of jail. With the absence of a big player and the abrupt entrance – via Chevy's new Bolt – of an affordable EV with 200+ miles of range, we've limited the diesel listings to Jaguar's new XE. And for those wanting an updated look at efficiency and range, Autoblog has it – or the EPA has it. Long before electric vehicles were part of the mainstream conversation, car lovers and skinflints alike would boast about the total range of their vehicles. There's something about getting farther down the road on one tank of gas that inflames the competitive spirit, almost as much as horsepower output or top speed. Of course, the vehicles with the very best range on today's market are almost all big trucks and SUVs; virtually all have the ability to carry massive reserves of fuel. Top up a standard Chevy Suburban and you can expect to travel almost 700 miles (you'll need to stop before the Suburban stops...), while a diesel-fed Jeep Grand Cherokee manages almost as many. But what about vehicles that are smaller? The EPA has, essentially, three classifications for 'small' vehicles: Minicompact, Subcompact and Compact. All three are measured based on interior volume, meaning that some cars with rather large exterior dimensions and engines slot in next to traditional small cars. But even though impressive GT coupes from Porsche, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz may have much larger gas tanks to feed their powerful engines, that capacity is offset by higher rates of consumption... in most cases. We used the EPA's Fuel Economy Guide for model year 2017 cars as a start, calculating the official highway miles per gallon rating with each vehicle's tank capacity. The resulting numbers aren't necessarily real world, but they do offer a spectrum for total theoretical range. The eventual top ten surprised me on a few occasions, and comprised quite a varied list of vehicles. 10.
Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.
