1969 Vw Westfalia Vanagon on 2040-cars
Oak Lawn, Illinois, United States
This is a 1969 Volkswagen Westfalia Vanagon.
I purchased it because it was complete and ready for restoration, knowing it was a project car. I have had considerable engine work done to get it running and safe. My vintage VW specialist mechanic (30 years experience) installed necessary parts to get it running as well as new brakes, new gear shift, new tires on the driver's side, etc. I am not mechanically savvy, so if you have specific questions, please contact me and I will forward them to him, or put you into contact with him as he knows the specifics of this car. There is rust on this vehicle, you can see it in the images. It needs body work and new paint, however the current patina looks very cool on the road. All the interior is intact: table, benches, folding seat - into bed, refrigerator, sink, cabinetry, pop-up top. The inside is in ok condition, however I do feel it could use some restoration as well. I fully planned on restoring this vehicle, however do to changes, I have no place to store this bus and will not leave it out in the Chicago winter elements. I'd much rather see it in the hands of someone who will restore it to the shining beauty it is meant to be, however heartbroken I am to see it go. |

Volkswagen CrossBlue previews a three-row future, diesel-hybrid power [w/video]
Mon, 14 Jan 2013Volkswagen looks to be getting ready to jump into the large three-row crossover game. The automaker has officially pulled back the curtain on the CrossBlue Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Designers and engineers penned the machine specifically for the Canadian and US markets, and with a plug-in diesel electric hybrid drivetrain, the hulking five-door, at least in concept form, should offer substantially better efficiency than anything else on the market. The drivetrain pairs a 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 305 horsepower and a ludicrous 516 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch gearbox handles shifting detail, while one electric motor spins the front wheels. The second motor spins the back axle independently, make the CrossBlue a through-the-road hybrid.
As a result, the crossover can pop to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. Perhaps more impressively, the CrossBlue can whir around on all-electric propulsion for up to 14 miles at up to 75 mph. Once the diesel four kicks in, the drivetrain can yield up to 39 mpg, though Volkswagen says the hardware can hit 89 MPGe on a full charge thanks to a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Check out the full press release below for more information.
VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
